The journal classification system known as Qualis has been used as an indicator of the quality of research carried out in Brazil, as it is an important part of the mechanisms of scientific production evaluation and resource distribution in the country. In this context, this article intends to show how the Qualis classification system, a non-exhaustive list published annually, has induced the scientific production of Brazilian graduate programs, after two decades of its implementation by CAPES. To do that, the frequency of publications in journals that were in the Qualis system between 2007 and 2016 has been observed in eight different evaluation areas. Using the SJR index provided by Scopus, the international impact of the most frequent journals in that period was determined, as well as the concentration of articles in these same journals. Results showed that the Qualis system has directed the publication of articles in a restricted number of journals, a scientific production that was concentrated mostly in the journals with lower impact factor among the ones that composed the list. The data analysis showed that researchers have been concentrating efforts to publish in journals that bring higher number of points in the Qualis system, regardless of the visibility of these journals from a national or international point of view.

The implementation of learning is the most important part in improving the quality of education. The Covid-19 pandemic period is part of the challenge for education so that learning continues. The purpose of this study was to investigate in depth the implementation of distance learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. The method used in this research is qualitative with a case study approach. The research was conducted at Muhammadiyah Pakel Elementary School. The data sources in this study were teachers, parents, and students. Data collection techniques using structured interviews assisted with guidelines that are structured questions systematically. Data analysis using the Denzin Licoln case study model assisted by atlas.ti software version 8. The technique used to improve the quality of research is source triangulation. The results of this study provide information that in the implementation of the implementation of distance learning there are three factors, namely policy, distance learning process, and human resource activeness. These three factors are novelty which can be recommendations for the three education centers in order to be part of improving the quality of distance learning education during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Purpose – This paper aims to propose a new qualitative indicator for the evaluation of the productions of researchers in any discipline. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the study of existing quantitative indicators, the authors’ approach consisted of the hybridization of two indicators. This hybridization is based on the individual H_index (Hi_index) and H_index contemporary (Hc_index) weighted by qualitative factors. The initial sources of the data are online bibliographic databases, such as Google Scholar and Publish or Perish. Findings – A new scientometric indicator was used to compare the scientific production quality of researchers and their classification (as part of a research community) as the classification of national and international research institutions. The authors have applied a new indicator to compare and classify the members of their laboratory, RIADI, according to their quality of scientific production. Practical implications – The indicator is an improvement of the H_index. It is a measure that can have an impact on society (influencing research attitudes, affecting quality of research). By this contribution, the authors measure more than one aspect by involving all the external factors that can affect the quality of research. Originality/value – This paper fulfils a gap in the literature concerning the absence of a qualitative indicator among the set of existing quantitative measures. Additionally, this paper addresses the limitations of the existing qualitative practices, such as peer review and citation analysis. In the new qualitative indicator, the authors involve all of these qualitative aspects: the influence of the age of the paper, the number of co-authors, the order of the co-authors, the impact factor of journals and the conference rankings.

Today, the national social science features fast-paced studies on the theory of mediation. However, the branch status of this area is still obscure, which affects the quality of research. The paper explores various approaches to the definition of this status with a critical eye. Particular attention is paid to the thesis on the interdisciplinarity of the mediation theory. The author shows the consequences of classifying the mediation theory as an interdisciplinary branch. It is also troublesome, from the author’s point of view, to refer mediation purely to law. Mediation refers to phenomena that originate from social technologies ordering social relations and removing social conflicts. Only sociology and history can become the foundation of a new scientific branch. However, the mediation theory must first pass the stage of disciplinary constitutionalization, since its close interaction with many modern branches of knowledge would mean dissolution in them.

ABSTRACT Objective: This study aims to assess the quality of articles published in the leading orthopedic surgery journals, by measuring the relation between the impact factor and the number studies with a high level of evidence. Methods: A literature review was performed of articles published in four previously selected journals. A score of journal evidence (RER - Relation between Randomized clinical trials and Systematic reviews) was calculated, considering the number of RCTs and SR published and the total number of full-text articles. Results: The selected journals were JBJS-Am, ASMJ, BJJ-Br and Arthroscopy, with Impact factors of 5.280, 4.362, 3.309 and 3.206 respectively in 2015. In the study, the RER Scores, in the same order, were 9.408, 6.153, 7.456 and 7.779. Conclusion: The journal JBJS-Am is the best available source of information on orthopedic surgery from this point of view. It has the highest Impact Factor and clearly the highest RER Score. On the other hand, we could conclude that the number of published RCT and good quality SR is very low, with less than 10% of all the articles. Level of evidence III, Analyses based on limited alternatives and costs, and poor estimates.

Bibliometrics is the term used to describe various approaches to analysing measures of the use of academic literature, in particular articles in peer-reviewed journals. More broadly, the topic addresses the validity or otherwise of these measures as indicators of the impact, influence or value of the research being reported. These measures, and in particular the journal Impact Factor, are used as evidence for the quality of research, to make decisions about appointments, to judge a journal editor's success, and (it is assumed) to make funding decisions. Until recently, bibliometrics was mainly about citations, but now it is increasingly common to measure online usage, and even tweets, blogging and user star-ratings when assessing the contribution of a published research article.

Data analysis and mathematical techniques play a central role in quantitative data processing. Quantitative researchers estimate (strength) the strength of the relationship of variables, and test hypotheses statistically. Unlike the case with qualitative research. Although qualitative researchers might test a hypothesis in the analysis process, they do not estimate or test hypotheses about the relationship of variables statistically. Through tests or statistical tests can be used as the main means for interpreting the results of research data. It is through this statistical test that we as researchers can compare which data groups and what can be used to determine probabilities or possibilities that distinguish between groups based on an opportunity. Thus, it can provide evidence to determine the validity of a hypothesis or conclusion. In this study, we will discuss the preparation of data for analysis such as editing data, coding, categorizing, and entering data. As well as discussing the differences in data analysis for descriptive statistics and inferential statistics, differences in data analysis for parametric and non-parametric statistics in research, explanations of multivariate data analysis procedures, and also forms of research hypotheses.

AbstractScientific scholarly communication is subject to selection rules. In recent years, the issues around the assessment of research results has assumed a central role in academia. Despite recent efforts, by several initiatives both at national and international level, and the adoption of guidelines that emerged from the evaluation of research programs at European level, the measurement and evaluation of the quality of research still faces strong opposition from all bibliometric areas, in which the instruments available (amount of citations identified, the impact factor, and so on) are not appropriate to the humanities and social sciences. In particular, specific attention is paid today to the role of the book, which is a fundamental resource in the processes of scientific scholarly communication. In this regard this paper, written by Ginevra Peruginelli, analyses the missing link between the indicators and legal scholars' notions of quality, with reference to the role of the monograph in legal science.

Introduction Novel bibliometric indexes (commonly known as altmetrics) are gaining interest within the scientific community and might represent an important alternative measure of research quality and output. Aims We evaluate how these new metrics correlate with established bibliometric indexes such as the impact factor (IF), currently used as a measure of scientific production as well as a criterion for scientific research funding, and how they might be helpful in assessing the impact of research. Methods We calculated altmetrics scores for all the articles published at our institution during a single year and examined the correlation between altmetrics scores and IFs as a measure of research quality and impact in all departments. Results For all articles from the various departments published in a single year, the altmetrics score and the sum of all IFs showed a strong and significant correlation (Spearman's rho 0.88). The correlation was significant also when the major components of altmetrics, including Facebook, Twitter and Mendeley, were analyzed. The implementation of altmetrics has been found to be easy and effective at both the researcher and librarian levels. Conclusions The novel bibliographic index altmetrics is consistent and reliable and can complement or be considered a valid alternative to standard bibliometric indexes to benchmark output and quality of research for academic and funding purposes.
