The aim of this study was to determine the relation between some motoric and physiological characteristics of 13-15-year-old female volleyball players regarding their positions on the field. A total of 120 volleyball players have participated voluntarily. 30 of the participants whose mean age value was 14±0,76 were setters; 30 of them were liberoes with mean age value of 13,8±0,45; 30 of them were middle blockers with the mean age value of 14±0,79; 30 of them were hitters with mean age value of 13.52±0,68. The age, height, body weight, right-left hand gripping strength, vertical jump, throwing medicine ball, standing long jump, 30-second speed and body fat percentage measurements of the volleyball players have been performed. In evaluating the data, the One Way ANOVA has been used. No statistically significant differences have been determined between the age, weight right hand gripping strength and body fat percentage measurement results concerning the positions of the volleyball players, who participated in the study (p>0.05). On the other hand, it has been identified that there is a difference between the height, left hand gripping strength, throwing medicine ball, standing long jump, and speed values in terms of their positions (p<0.05). The results of the study could be beneficial to evaluate the motoric and physiological characteristics of the volleyball players regarding their positions in establishing teams and in preparing training programs.

The main aim of this study was to compare anthropometric and physical fitness indicators of boys of the same chronical age but with different fat percentages. Subjects were Hungarian boys aged 9–13 years (N = 6919). Anthropometry was measured according the guidelines of the International Biological Program. Relative body fat was estimated by Drinkwater–Ross’s method (1980); Conrad’s growth type of physique was also estimated (1963). Physical fitness was tested with 30 m dash (s), standing long jump (cm), fistball throw (m), and 1200 m run (s). Subjects of each cohort were grouped into seven subgroups with fat percentage ranges of 4%. Differences between subgroups were tested by one-way ANOVA. In the case of a significant F-test, Tukey’s post-hoc tests were used. The level of effective random error was set at 5% in all significance tests (p < 0.05). Except for the three groups with low fat percentages, values of body weight, stature, body mass index, and plastic and metric indexes were significantly higher; results of 30 m, 1200 m running, and standing long jump were worse in all groups with higher fat percentages. An interesting finding of the current study is that body fat percentage also influenced the physical fitness of non-overweight and obese children as well when using merely the 4% ranges in grouping by fatness. The lower the fat the better the physical fitness was in this sample of pre- and peripubertal boys.

It is hypothesized that there is a correlation between the ratio of second hand finger to fourth hand finger (2D:4D) which is an indicator of prenatal testosterone and physical fitness and sportive performance The aim of this study was to determined correlation between the right hand finger ratio (2D:4D) and the parameters of anthropometric and physical fitness in male and female children aged between 10 and 12. Six hundred and seventy eight males whose age average was 0.49±1.32 and 592 females whose age average was 10.38 ± 1.48 participated in this study. In addition to taking the students’ right hand 2D:4D, height, weight, triceps, subscapular, full arm and leg measurements, vertical jumping, standing long jump, flexibility, 20 m sprint, 10x5 agility, leg strength, right/left hand grip strength, 20 m shuttle run and balance tests were also performed. Statistically differences were found between anthropometric measurements apart from height and BMI, 2D:4D and physical fitness parameters in the males and females. A negative correlation between right hand 2D:4D and vertical jumping, standing long jump, 20 m sprint, 10x5 agility and right hand grip strength in the males. As for the females, although a negative correlation was detected between right hand 2D:4D and height, a positive correlation was found between the same variable and body fat ratio (p<0.05). It can be concluded that while a low 2D:4D ratio was correlated with static and explosive strength, speed and agility in the males, it was correlated with height and body fat ratio in the females.

Background. The importance of assessing body fat variables and physical fitness tests play an important role in monitoring the level of activity and physical fitness of the general population. The objective of this study was to develop reference norms to evaluate the physical fitness aptitudes of children and adolescents based on age and sex from the lake region of Itaipú, Brazil. Methods.A descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out with 5,962 students (2938 males and 3,024 females) with an age range of 6.0 and 17.9 years. Weight (kg), height (cm), and triceps (mm), and sub-scapular skinfolds (mm) were measured. Body Mass Index (BMI kg/m2) was calculated. To evaluate the 4 physical fitness aptitude dimensions (morphological, muscular strength, flexibility, and cardio-respiratory), the following physical education tests were given to the students: sit-and-reach (cm), push-ups (rep), standing long jump (cm), and 20-m shuttle run (m). Results and Discussion.Females showed greater flexibility in the sit-and-reach test and greater body fat than the males. No differences were found in BMI. Percentiles were created for the 4 components for the physical fitness aptitudes, BMI, and skinfolds by using the LMS method based on age and sex. The proposed reference values may be used for detecting talents and promoting health in children and adolescents.

Thirty-four volunteer obese housewives, who have not done exercise regularly during the last six months and have had no health problems to prevent them from exercising, have participated in the study. For the participating volunteers (n = 34), their age averages have been determined as (39.30 ± 11.30 years), their average height have been determined as (166.40 ± 8.50 cm) and their average body weights have been determined as (82.44 ± 15.02 kg), their average BMIs have been determined as (26.03 ± 6.65 kg/m2) and their average body fat percentages have been determined as (32.17 ± 8.05 %). The volunteers have been given an aerobic exercise program at 75% an exercise intensity according to the Karvonen formula for 50 minutes a day and for 4 days a week during 12 weeks. Measurements (body weight, waist circumference, body fat percentage) of the volunteers have been taken at the beginning and the end of the 12-week aerobic program. The data have been analysed by using the SPSS 17.0 statistical package program. Statistical analyses have been made by using Wilcoxon Test and the significance value has been determined as p< 0.05.After the statistical analysis, statistically significant difference have been detected between the preliminary and the final test values of the subjects in terms of Body Weight (z=-5.08, p<0.05), Waist Circumference (z=-5.08, p<0.05), Body Fat Percentage (z=-4.71, p<0.05) and Body Mass Index (z=-4.57, p<0.05).As a result, it has been determined that aerobic exercise of 12 weeks in aerobic style has positive effects on physical fitness parameters of obese housewives. For this reason, the importance of the cost-free aerobic exercise in the right intensity for every age has been revealed again.

Purpose:The number of familiarization sessions in fitness assessments seems to be critical and inconsistent. Therefore, the primary aim of this research was to determine the number of familiarization attempts that stabilize the results in particular physical fitness tests. The secondary aim was to establish the test reliability through familiarization sessions.Methods:Thirty-nine primary school children participated in this research (age: 10.8 years, body mass: 40.6 ± 8.9 kg, and body height: 145.3 ± 7.2 cm). During six sessions, with one session every third day, participants performed the following tests to assess explosive strength (vertical jump and standing long jump), coordination (polygon backward and polygon with turn) and flexibility (toe touch). Results:The results of repeated analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that there were significant increases (p < .05) in the polygon backward and polygon with turn performances from the first to third familiarization session. The standard error of measurement decreased as sessions progressed, indicating little within subject variation between the coordination test results following a familiarization period. Statistically significant differences were identified in the vertical jump test from the fourth test session compared with the first session. On the other hand, statistically significant differences for the standing long jump test were only found in the final session compared with the initial session. In the toe touch test, there were no significant increases from the first to the final familiarization session. All tests showed high a reliability coefficients, ranging from 0.979 to 0.991.Conclusion:Polygon backward and polygon with turn performance may be a practical, reliable method to assess coordination in primary school-aged children. However, completion of at least 3 practice sessions is suggested for participants to obtain a stable score. In addition, both jump tests are feasible for assessing skill-related fitness in young children, although the scientific reliability of the two tests should be questioned and the tests should be tailored to fit the age group of the children.
