<p>The study aims at examining whether life satisfaction of pregnant women is predicted by their stress coping styles, being understood/not understood by their husbands, and intentional/unintentional conception. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 260 pregnant women living in two districts of Province Samsun who had self-reportedly no psychiatric problems. Data collection tools used in the study include a personal information form to determine sociodemographic characteristics of pregnant women, the Ways of Coping Questionnaire to determine stress coping styles, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale to determine level of life satisfaction. As the assumption of normality was not met (p&lt;0.05), the use of non-parametric tests was considered necessary; and thus the study used Spearman's rank correlation coefficient to find the relationship between two variables, and the Mann–Whitney U test to test whether there is a significant difference between two variables. A significant negative correlation was found between life satisfaction and submissive and helpless coping styles which are the subscales of the Satisfaction with Life Scale. The study found that life satisfaction of pregnant women was predicted by their stress coping styles, being understood/not understood by their husbands, and intentional/unintentional conception.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Özet</strong></p><p>Bu araştırmanın amacı gebelerin stresle baş etme tarzlarının, eşleri tarafından anlaşılma /anlaşılmama ve isteyerek gebe kalma/kalmama gibi durumların yaşam doyumlarını ne ölçüde yordadığını belirlemektir. Araştırma kesitsel tipte tarama modelinde desenlenmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri Samsun ilinin iki ilçesinde yaşayan, kendi ifadesine göre herhangi bir psikiyatrik sorunu olmayan 260 gebeden toplanmıştır. Verilerin analizinde tanımlayıcı istatistiksel yöntemler kullanılmıştır. Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde (p&lt;0.05) normallik şartı sağlanmadığı için parametrik olmayan testlerden; iki değişken arasındaki ilişkiyi bulabilmek için Spearman Brown Sıra Farkları korelasyon testi ve iki durum arasında anlamlı fark olup olmadığını test etmek için de Mann-Whitney U testi kullanılmıştır. Araştırmadan elde edilen bulgulara göre, stresle başa çıkma tarzları ölçeğinin alt boyutlarından çaresiz yaklaşım ve boyun eğici yaklaşım ile yaşam doyumu arasında negatif yönde anlamlı düzeyde yordamaktadır. Araştırma bulguları ilgili literatür eşliğinde tartışılmış ve daha sonra gerçekleştirilecek araştırmalara yönelik öneriler geliştirilmiştir.</p>

Introduction. While expecting a healthy child, having a child with a disability can be quite traumatic for all family members, especially parents. The objective of the research was to evaluate affiliate stigma, hopelessness, and life satisfaction in parents of children with intellectual disability. Materials and Methods. The descriptive research included 203 parents of children with intellectual disabilities, who met the research inclusion criteria and agreed to participate in the study. The data were collected using the Personal Information Form, the Affiliate Stigma Scale, the Beck Hopelessness Scale, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Results. The mean age of parents included in the study was 40.74 ± 7.22 years, with 67.5% of caregiving mothers. The levels of affiliate stigma and hopelessness among parents were low, and they were satisfied with their lives. In case of increasing parental affiliate stigma, their hopelessness was found to increase, while life satisfaction was found to decrease. Conclusions. In order to increase public acceptance of people with disabilities by society, it is recommended to provide trainings and raise awareness against individuals with disabilities and their families.

The present study is aimed at determining coach athlete relationships, perceived school experiences and sports life satisfaction levels of athlete high school students and to examine the levels based on certain variables. The sample of the research consisted of a total of 306 students, 117 (38.2%) male and 189 (61.8%) female, who continued their education at different high schools in Trabzon in the 2019-2020. "Personal Information Form" designed by the researcher, “The Coach-Athlete Relationship Questionnaire (CART-Q),” “The Sport-Specific Satisfaction with Life Scale (SSWLS)” and “Perceived School Experiences Scale (PSES)” were used as data collection tools in the research. In the statistical method of the study, descriptive statistics, t-test, pearson correlation tests and regression tests were used. In the research findings, while there was a significant difference in the sub-dimensions of the coach-athlete relationship and sportive life satisfaction according to gender, no significant difference was found in the perceived school experiences. A significant difference was found in all scales and sub-dimensions according to the status of playing in the school team. As a result, a high level of positive correlation was found between the coach-athlete relationship and sportive life satisfaction, and between perceived school experiences and sportive life satisfaction. In addition, another important result is that the coach-athlete relationship (51%) and school experiences (32%) have important roles in predicting the satisfaction with sportive life.

Aim and Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate how different types of goals may affect the satisfaction in life of Brazilian emerging adults in different developmental stages and, what characteristics they associate with adulthood. Method: Participants were 970 Brazilian youth aged from 18 to 30 years old (M = 22.8; SD = 3.4). The instruments we used were a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Aspiration Index and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. We performed a descriptive statistical analysis to elicit the characteristics related with becoming an adult, as well as ANOVAs to test if there was a difference between the endorsement of intrinsic or extrinsic goals based on sociodemographic characteristics; and if there was a difference, did it affect their satisfaction with life. Results: Results showed that the most important characteristic to be considered an adult was to be financially independent and to be responsible for oneself, while the least important were to be married and to have children. There was a significant difference in the importance participants gave to intrinsic goals based on sex and age. Consistently with previous research, we found that giving greater importance to intrinsic goals had a positive and significant effect on life satisfaction. However, different sets of goals were deemed important according to the developmental stage youth were in, and these changes had in turn a significant effect on life satisfaction. Conclusions: Finally, we found that prioritizing intrinsic goals contributes to greater life satisfaction in general. This study acknowledges that there are individual and contextual factors that may propel youth to choose their goals in order to attend these demands, regardless of their impact on life satisfaction.

The aim of the current study was to assess the perceived stress, life satisfaction and self-esteem of women studying in co-education and uni-gender institutions. The sample comprised a total of 200 female students, 100 from uni-gender institutions and 100 from co-education institutions. Convenience and purposive sampling techniques were used to collect the data. The standardized Urdu versions of Perceived Stress Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale and Self-esteem Scale were used to collect the responses of students. SPSS (19th version) was used to analyze the data. Findings showed that women studying in uni-gender institutions are more stressed as compared to female students of co-education institutions but their self-esteem and life satisfaction remain unaffected. The results indicated that there is a significant difference between perceived stress, life satisfaction and self-esteem among female students. Moreover, they also revealed that stress and self-esteem affect the life satisfaction of women studying in co-education and uni-gender institutions. Furthermore, the results also depicted significant relationships between perceived stress, life satisfaction and self-esteem. The study will be helpful in improving the educational systems so that female students may enjoy a better learning environment which will boost up their confidence and self-esteem.

The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between happiness levels of university students with levels oflife satisfaction and optimism. The study sample consists of 318 freshmen, sophomore, junior, and senior studentsrandomly selected from the departments of Physical Education and Sports Teaching, Coaching Education, SportsManagement, and Recreation Education of Faculty of Sports Sciences, Erciyes University, Turkey.Happiness Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and Life Orientation Scale, as well as “Personal Information Form”prepared by the researcher were used as the data collection tools for the purpose of this research.The data obtained from Personal Information Form, Happiness Scale, Satisfaction with Life Scale, and LifeOrientation Scale was analyzed statistically with SPSS 20.0 package program. Personal information and inventorytotal scores, as well as factor scores for the candidates, are given by determining the frequency (f) and percentage (%)values. To determine the relationship between the scores obtained from the scales, Pearson Product MomentCorrelation Analysis (r), and to determine whether obtained scores are predicting each other or not, multipleregression analysis (β) were applied.As a result, happiness was found to have a high-level positive relation with life satisfaction and optimism.Considering the psychological aspects of the curriculum applied to prospective teachers, increasing the level ofhappiness will contribute to educating more qualified teachers.

Background: It is important to identify problem areas of parents with mentally disabled children, to support them, to address their stress sources and to effectively cope with them. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of training given to parents with mentally disabled children on their life satisfaction, self-stigma of seeking help, depression and stress-coping styles. Material: Families with disabled children who continued their education at the Special Education Centers in Sivas created the sample of this pre- and post-test study (with control group). The data were collected with the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS), the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Self-Stigma of Seeking Psychological Help Scale (SSPHS) and the Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WCQ). The scales were re-applied to the experimental group ( n = 75) after the application of scales and 5-week training. Individuals in the control group were not given any training. The Mann–Whitney U test, t test and Kruskal–Wallis variance analysis were used in the evaluation of the data. Results: The mean SWLS score was 19.14 ± 7.24 (min: 3; max: 31) before the training and 21.68 ± 7.39 (min: 6; max: 35) after the training. The mean BDI score was 16.92 ± 10.84 (min: 1; max: 60) before the training and 10.24 ± 7.77 (min: 0; max: 33) after the training. The mean SSPHS score was 58.18 ± 9.96 (min: 32; max: 82) before the training and 52.65 ± 14.28 (min: 28; max: 84) after the training. The mean optimistic approach score of SSPHS was 9.73 ± 2.67 (min: 2; max: 15) before the training and 10.58 ± 2.19 (min: 4; max: 15) after the training. It was determined that the difference between mean scores of the control group before and after the training was not significant ( p > .05). Conclusion: The training has positively affected the decrease in depression and self-stigmatization, and the increase in life satisfaction and stress-coping styles after the training. It is recommended to plan research studies to identify the need for support of parents, and to structure the trainings to be given according to the results of the educational intervention researches.

The most common physical deformity includes upper and lowers limbs deformity that could be acquired or congenital. Such deformity produces difficulty in daily life activities including reaching, walking, lifting, and carrying things. The present study aimed to explore life satisfaction and attitude towards disability between congenital and acquired physical disabilities. A sample of eighty (N=80) participants was included in the study out of which (n=40) were congenital and (n=40) were acquired physical disables. The sample was collected from different rehabilitation and paraplegic centers as well as institutions through the purposive sampling technique. Satisfaction with life scale and attitude toward disabled person scales were included. It was hypothesized that there will be a significant difference in terms of life satisfaction between congenital and acquired physical disables. The second hypothesis was the attitude towards disability will be positive among the congenital group than the acquired one. An independent sample t-test (IBM SPSS statistics version 20) was applied to analyze the difference between congenital and acquired physical disables.  Results of the study indicated that congenital physical disabled were found with highly satisfied from their life (α=.000) and possess a positive attitude towards disability (α=.000) than the acquired physical disables.

El propósito de este trabajo es examinar las relaciones entre la práctica de actividad físico deportiva en la adolescencia y diversas autoevaluaciones como el autoconcepto físico, percepción de salud y satisfacción vital.  Participan en el estudio 1504 adolescentes de la ciudad de Málaga (España), en edades comprendidas entre los 14 y 16 años.  Los instrumentos utilizados para medir los constructos indicados son el Cuestionario de Autoconcepto Físico (CAF), el Cuestionario de Salud General (GHQ) y la Escala de Satisfacción con la Vida (SWLS).  Sigue un diseño transversal de tipo correlacional en el que se usa la encuesta para obtener los datos.  Los análisis estadísticos muestran que la práctica física es una variable que genera diferencias significativas, en los constructos estudiados, a favor de los que practican.  Sin embargo, la frecuencia de práctica muestra únicamente diferencias significativas entre grupos en el autoconcepto físico.  Por otro lado, los años de experiencia en conductas de práctica física influye en los resultados encontrados, obteniéndose valoraciones más positivas en aquellos que llevan más tiempo realizando este tipo de tareas.  La presente investigación contribuye a reforzar la importancia que tiene crear hábitos de vida activos para aumentar el bienestar psicológico en las personas.Palabras clave: adolescencia; práctica física; autoconcepto físico; percepción de salud; satisfacción vital.Abstract: The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between experience in physical sports activity in adolescence and various self-evaluations such as physical self-concept, perceptions of health and life satisfaction.  Participants are 1504 adolescents from the city of Malaga (Spain), aged between 14 and 16 years.  The instruments used to assess the constructs are the Physical Self-Concept Questionnaire (CAF), the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS).  The study has a cross-sectional, correlational design, in which surveys are used to collect data.  The statistical analyses show that physical activity is associated with significant differences in the study variables, favouring those who do physical activity.  The frequency of the activity, however, has a significant difference between the groups only in the case of physical self-concept.  On the other hand, years of experience in physical activity affects the outcomes, with better results for those who have been doing exercise for a longer period of time.  This study contributes to the literature that emphasises the importance of creating an active lifestyle to boost psychological wellbeing.Key words: adolescence; physical activity; physical self-concept; perceptions of health; life satisfaction.

Abstract Background Currently, in developed countries, more and more women and men intend to delay childbearing and, later in life, seek fertility treatment. Some women undergoing infertility treatment develop negative feelings (anxiety, depression and irritation) associated with low life satisfaction. We aimed to examine the association between infertility-related factors, including regret over the delay in childbearing decision and life satisfaction, among Japanese women and men seeking fertility treatment. Methods This cross-sectional study included 253 women and 196 men referred to fertility facilities in Japan from July to December 2018. Participants completed a questionnaire on infertility-related factors, regret over the delay in childbearing decision, life satisfaction and sociodemographic characteristics. Life satisfaction was measured with Satisfaction with Life Scale, and the degree of regret over delay in childbearing decision was measured using a seven-point Likert scale. Participants were divided into two groups based on the neutral point of the Satisfaction with Life Scale (20-point score). Answers from the groups were compared using the Mann-Whitney U-test for continuous and ordinal variables and Chi-square tests for categorical variables. Logistic regression analyses were used to examine the association between infertility-related factors and life satisfaction. Results Regrets over the delay in childbearing decision were significantly higher in the low life satisfaction group than the high life satisfaction group ( p = 0.010); it was also negatively associated with life satisfaction (adjusted Odds Ratio = 0.85, 95% confidence interval = 0.74-0.97, p = 0.020). Further, life satisfaction was positively associated with previous live birth (adjusted Odds Ratio = 2.84, 95% confidence interval = 1.38-5.85, p = 0.005). Conclusions To reduce their regret over their decision-making related to childbearing, women and men seeking fertility treatment should be cared for by health professionals. Moreover, reproductive-aged women and men need to make informed decision-making about the timing of childbearing to avoid, later in life, feelings of regret over delayed decisions, mainly because not regretting such an important aspect of life is crucial to allow people to live a satisfying life.

AbstractIntroduction. Satisfaction with life is a general assessment of satisfaction with one’s own achievements and living conditions on many levels. This includes human cognitive processes, expressing the emotional state that occurs as a result of achieving a specific goal. According to Juczyński, the assessment of life satisfaction is the result of confronting one’s own situation with the adopted criteria. If the result of the comparison is positive, the implication is the feeling of satisfaction. Satisfaction with life of pregnant women is dependent on many factors, including: personality traits, emotions, sociodemographic, factors as well as numerous physiological and psychological changes occurring during pregnancy.Aim. The aim of the study is to assess the level of life satisfaction of pregnant women depending on sociodemographic factors.Material and methods. The research was conducted on 415 women hospitalized and receiving care in counseling centers for pregnant women. The research was carried out by means of a diagnostic survey using a standardized Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) and an original questionnaire to collect demographic data.Results. Based on the average assessment of life satisfaction, it was found that 48.43% (n = 201) of the surveyed pregnant women was characterized by a high degree of life satisfaction, 35.18% (n = 146) average, and 16.39% (n = 68) of the respondents experienced a low level of life satisfaction.Conclusions. Sociodemographic factors conditioned the feeling of satisfaction with life of pregnant women. Pregnant women who had a greater sense of life satisfaction were: those in relationship rather than those who were single; women with higher education than those with basic, vocational or secondary education; pregnant women working mentally rather than those not working.
