With increased usage of the Internet and social media, cyberbullying among young people has recently come to the fore worldwide, and Turkey has seen no exception to this. The numbers of young people subjected to bullying on digital platforms increases daily, which has a significant impact on their lives. It is therefore vital to raise awareness about cyberbullying, both in terms of taking precautions against its threats and to foster behavioural changes that may lead to reduced exposure to cyberbullying. The purpose of this study is to investigate entry level university students’ past and present experiences of cyberbullying, specifically within digital social environments. A survey method was adopted, with participation of entry level undergraduate students from various departments of a public university in Turkey during the 2015-2016 academic year. The ‘Cyberbullying Sensitivity Scale’, developed by Tanrıkulu, Kınay, and Arıcak (2013), was the instrument applied. Findings from the study aim to shed light on the current status of sensitivity and awareness about cyberbullying, with important implications for the introduction and fostering of healthier and more informed use of information and communication technologies.

Developments in information and communication technologies have raised the issue of the intergenerational digital divide that can take place between “digital natives” and “digital immigrants”. Despite emphatic claims concerning how educational systems must take into account the specific characteristics of “digital natives”, sound empirical research on these topics is lacking, especially for Europe. This paper presents the results of research performed during the course of 2008, studying how university students in Italy use digital technologies. The research is based on a survey of 1086 undergraduate students at the University of Milan-Bicocca, complemented by focus groups and in-depth interviews. The results of our research show that, even if university students are familiar with digital technologies, the general possession of high level skills in accessing and using the Internet should not be taken for granted.

The article is aimed at building up a model of e-commerce development adapted to the realities of our time and peculiarities of the development of infocommunications of the country. The current status of development of infocommunications is analyzed together with related activities of the enterprises, which are using the digital platforms for conduct of business. It is determined that the development of e-commerce is slowed by the inequality of access to modern information and communication technologies and low activity of certain economic actors regarding trade operations through the Internet. An adaptive model of e-commerce development is proposed, which is based on the consideration of the conditions of the external contour of development of enterprise along with the internal contour in the aspect of the existing resource base and potential development opportunities. The model requires an information base of e-commerce development processes, contains methodical principles for analyzing the internal and external contours of e-commerce development, as well as methods of forecasting changes in the external contour and determining the internal potential. The necessary element of the model is determination of the criteria for the possibility of e-commerce development in existing conditions combined with formation of a list of invariant models for different platforms, which would be the most acceptable in the conditions of external contour. The need to take into account existing cyber risks and apply measures to minimize them in the process of e-commerce development is substantiated. It is defined that the development of e-commerce leads to an effect on micro-, meso- and macro-levels, which in the end can lead to emergence of a synergistic effect. The feedback function contained in the model allows to link the stage of determining the results to the formation of invariant models of development, which should be activated in the absence of desirable results according to the selected model of e-commerce development. Further research will be directed to substantiate the criteria that determine the possibility of e-commerce development under the conditions of both internal and external contours.

The aim of this study was to understand the satisfaction levels of undergraduate students of Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad about the usage of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) for their academic purposes. The quantitative research approach was applied to collect data through a survey method from two hundred (200) sampled respondents from three faculties of QAU i.e., social science, natural science, and biological sciences. The convenient sampling technique was used for the selection of the respondents. A well-structured questionnaire was used for the survey purpose. Some of the questionnaires were self-administered while the rest were distributed among the respondents and collected later. The data were analyzed in Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) and both descriptive and inferential statistics were applied. The findings of the study showed that undergraduate students at QAU were using the internet, having sufficient knowledge of ICTs, and were using these ICTs for educational purposes, such as research work, class assignments, and communication with teachers. The Confidence Interval was [95% and MoR was 0.05). All the figures had less than 0.05 values which means the variables are correlating to each other. Some of the respondents stated that there is a lack of ICTs well-trained staff and limited space in the computer laboratories at the campus. The university administration should pay special attention to the provision of ICTs to the student so that they could get maximum benefits out of it. Moreover, the respondent’s knowledge about the usage of ICTs has a strong relationship with the students’ attitude towards the ICTs use. The respondent’s level of knowledge about the ICTs has a less likely effect on the major constraint in using ICTs. Every era in life throws up its own opportunities and challenges, and here we are, in a digital era made possible by advancements in information and communication technologies. That being the case, it will amount to self-deceit for anybody in this era to pretend that the advancements in information and communication technologies do not have any effects on the political, social, cultural and religious lives of the people. At the political arena, the advent of digital media has brought about an entirely different type of politicking and campaigns referred to as digital political campaigns. This type of campaign permits politicians to reach out to the electorate through digital platforms without necessarily embarking on rallies. As a matter of truth, the technologies of those digital media and their resultant online platforms have not only bridged the communication gap between content-creators and content-consumers; but have even gone a long way in turning the communication process into a more interactive, participatory and democratic dialogue. Thus, the public communication sphere has been flung wide-open for public participation without restrictions. By the very nature of the digital media (interactive, participatory and democratic); it could be assumed that anybody with an internet-enabled device can become a partaker in the communication process. But such an assumption may forever remain conjecture until it is connected or experimented upon. To that end, this study investigated the use of digital media for political participation in the 2019 general elections in Nigeria. It adopted the survey method of research to determine: (i) the most-frequently-used digital media for political participation of Nigerian youths in the 2019 elections (ii) the amount of time Nigerian youths spent on the digital media for political participation in the 2019 elections (iii) the number of times Nigerian youths visited the digital media for political participation in the 2019 elections (iv) the gratifications which Nigerian youths sought from the digital media and (v) the relationship between use of the digital media and political-needs gratification among Nigerian youths.

The paper aims to investigate lifelong learning tendencies of university students in terms of different variables. For this purpose, the survey method was employed. The sample of the study consisted of 500 university students studying at various undergraduate programs at a state university in Turkey during 2018-2019 academic year. The personal information form prepared by the researchers and the “Lifelong Learning Tendency Scale” was used to collect data. Descriptive statistics such as frequencies, means, and standard deviations were computed to display students’ overall responses to the lifelong learning tendency scale items. The findings of the study showed that the lifelong learning tendency levels of students differed significantly according to variables as gender, grade, following developments in information and communication technologies, faculty and participation in activities such as conferences, panels, symposiums etc. held at the university. Results also indicated that lifelong learning tendencies of university students were at a moderate level.

Distance learning (DL) assumes a relevant place in the scope of social sciences' approaches adopted in terms of violence prevention, through the creation and development of digital platforms addressing different types of violence. As a consequence of the wide use of information and communication technologies (ICT) by young people, the risks represented for experiencing violence, and the advantages in terms of the rapid dissemination of information, there has been an increasing use of digital tools to prevent different victimization phenomena. Although there are constraints associated with DL, it has lower costs of learning training per person, allowing a wide dissemination of information. This chapter intends to analyse and discuss how DL may address violence prevention in terms of social sciences issues specific interventions. In the expectation that others may emerge, existing practices in this area covering the most diverse types of violence affecting young people are presented and described.
