Mohd Ridwan, Eko Yulianto, in paper competency of naval architecture diploma program on Indonesian maritime industry explain that Shipbuilding engineering professionals is part of the leading maritime industry is expected to become the motor of development of national maritime fleet in the implementation of cabotage (Impres No.5, 2005), this will reduce foreign exchange spending nearly 99 trillion rupiah per year due to the use of foreign fleets, and the creation of new jobs as a supporter of the maritime industry. So the presence of workers who have competence in the field of shipbuilding (ship building, naval architecture, marine engineering enginerring and maritime transportation) is urgently needed and their capability to compete with other countries that previously controlled the sea as a source of national income should be the Indonesian government's attention. The topic of the article considers the functioning of the renewable energy (RE) sector in Poland. This is really important in the context of the energy transition of the national economy because it influences the creation of modern technologies and increases the competitiveness and innovation of the country. Poland is in a process of energy transition where the RE sector has been developing for two decades. The authors aimed to research the RE sector improvement possibilities in Poland, including the influence of this sector on chosen social and economic aspects. Because of this research’s aim a critical situation assessment of RE in Poland was conducted and a survey of a group of experts in this field was also involved. Legal, physical and mental determinants and their influence on RE sector were looked into. In the legal determinant context a necessity to simplify relevant legislation acts in Poland was found. Undoubtedly there is a need to improve several legal acts, including the Distance Act. In physical determinants it was found that solar, wind and biomass energy have the biggest chances for development. In the case of mental determinants the authors paid attention to the need of educating the public about using and obtaining energy. It is also important to make people aware how the RE sector influences the low emission economy positively. This will improve the creation of new jobs and reduce the emissions of harmful substances to the environment.

Being engaged in collecting materials for a work entitled “A Picture of Naval Architecture in the 18th and 19th Centuries,” the author was induced to visit this country, with a view to become acquainted with the various innovations and improvements lately introduced here in the art of ship-building; and, in the present communication, offers some remarks upon the plans proposed by Mr. Seppings, an account of which has formerly been before the Royal Society, and is printed in their Transactions for 1814. After giving an outline of the fundamental principles upon which Mr. Seppings’s improvements in naval architecture principally depend, and dwelling especially upon the diagonal pieces of timber which he employs to strengthen the usual rectangular frame-work, the author proceeds to state that similar contrivances were long ago suggested and even practised by the French ship-builders, in order to give strength to the general fabric of their vessels. Instead of making the ceiling parallel to the exterior planks, they arranged it in the oblique direction of the diagonals of the parallelograms formed by the timber and the ceiling, in the whole of that part of the ship’s sides between the orlop and limber-strake next the kelson. They then covered this ceiling with riders, as usual, and placed crosspieces between them in the direction of the second diameter of the parallelogram. This system, however, was abandoned in the French navy, on account of its expense, of its diminishing the capacity of the hold, and of the erroneous notion that the longitudinal length of the ship was diminished by the obliquity of the ceiling. In 1755, the Academy of Sciences rewarded M. Chauchot, a naval engineer, for the suggestion of employing oblique for transverse riders; and in 1772, M. Clairon des Lauriers employed diagonal strengtheners in the construction of the frigate l’Oiseau.

Summary: Tourist sector in BiH has positive trends in all important growth indicators in the past decade, however, the space for using further its potential is still huge. With its natural resources and potential for outdoors tourism, rich natural and cultural heritage, good geographic location, internationally known events, excellent cuisine for reasonable prices and status of a still unknown tourism destination for main tourist generating markets, BiH has all predispositions for exceptionally successful tourism. Tourism is, certainly, a very important source of foreign exchange and for this reason is classified in favored export industries. For countries which, first of all, are outstanding as significant receptive tourism countries on the international tourism market, foreign exchange inflow from tourism represents the most important item of revenue in the balance of payment and a very strong factor in overall economic development.Tourism is an extremely important component of the national economy. It is a sector whose importance cannot be quantified precisely since it is related to almost all aspects of the society. One of the basic functions of tourism is its direct and indirect impact on the growth of gross domestic product. Along with the strengthening of its economic aspect the employment is being encouraged, affects creating new jobs which is reflected in the improvement of general standard of living. In a unique way it encourages development of other complementary activities and contributes to the overall GDP.

In the last year, the Department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of Genoa University (now Department of Naval Architecture, Marine Technology and Electrical Engineering) collaborated to the design of the propulsion automation of two different naval vessels; within these projects the authors developed different ship propulsion simulators used to design and test the propulsion control schemes. In these time-domain simulators, each propulsion component is represented by a specific mathematical model, mainly based on algebraic and differential equations. One of the key aspects of the propulsion simulation is the engine dynamics. This problem in principle can be dealt with models based on thermodynamic principles, which are able to represent in detail the behaviour of many variables of interest (engine power and speed, air and gas pressures, temperatures, stresses, etc.). However, thermodynamic models are often characterized by a long computation-time and moreover their development usually requires the knowledge of specific engine information not always available. It is generally preferable to adopt simpler simulation models, for the development of which, very few kinds of information are necessary. In fact, for the rapid prototyping of control schemes, it is generally more important to model the whole plant (in a relatively coarse way) rather than the detailed model of some components. This paper deals with simple mathematical methods, able to represent the engine power or torque only, but they can be suitably applied to many types of marine engines in a straightforward way. The proposed simulation approaches derived from the authors’ experience, gained during their activity in the marine simulation field, and they are particularly suitable for a fast prototyping of the marine propulsion control systems. The validation process of these particular models, regarding a Diesel engine, a marine gas turbine and an electric motor, is illustrated based on the sea trials data and engine manufacturers’ data. Statistics and information from the maritime industry show that the continuous advances in the safety of navigation do not reduce the occurrence of shipping casualties. This controversial fact leads the authors to analyse the applicability of the risk homeostasis theory to maritime transportation. With the aim of investigating this matter 2,584 ship incidents, which took place during the years 2005 and 2006, have been recorded and examined. The same variables which the Paris MOU usually employs to identify substandard ships (flag, classification society, age, type and size) have been used in this research to establish their level of safety in an effort to determine the relationship between that level and the occurrence of maritime incidents in the world cargo carrying fleet with appropriate statistical methods.

Subject Sao Tome political update. Significance Popular dissatisfaction is growing with Prime Minister Patrice Trovoada's authoritarian style and the government's failure to meet its electoral promises. Allegations of manipulation of judicial institutions come amid a growing defensiveness on the government's part, with the defence minister recently claiming to have foiled an assassination attempt against Trovoada. Impacts Trovoada’s administration will try to mend damaged relations with Angola following the Rosema brewery dispute. The main opposition party's newly elected leadership will preach renewed unity before forthcoming polls and should make electoral gains. New oil-related investments could see the creation of new jobs related to onshore activities and corporate social responsibility projects.
