Background In the nation-wide double-blind cluster-randomised Finnish Invasive Pneumococcal disease trial (FinIP, ClinicalTrials.gov NCT00861380, NCT00839254), we assessed the indirect impact of the 10-valent pneumococcal Haemophilus influenzae protein D conjugate vaccine (PHiD-CV10) against five pneumococcal disease syndromes. Methods Children 6 weeks to 18 months received PHiD-CV10 in 48 clusters or hepatitis B/A-vaccine as control in 24 clusters according to infant 3+1/2+1 or catch-up schedules in years 2009―2011. Outcome data were collected from national health registers and included laboratory-confirmed and clinically suspected invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD), hospital-diagnosed pneumonia, tympanostomy tube placements (TTP) and outpatient antimicrobial prescriptions. Incidence rates in the unvaccinated population in years 2010―2015 were compared between PHiD-CV10 and control clusters in age groups <5 and ≥5 years (5―7 years for TTP and outpatient antimicrobial prescriptions), and in infants <3 months. PHiD-CV10 was introduced into the Finnish National Vaccination Programme (PCV-NVP) for 3-month-old infants without catch-up in 9/2010. Results From 2/2009 to 10/2010, 45398 children were enrolled. Vaccination coverage varied from 29 to 61% in PHiD-CV10 clusters. We detected no clear differences in the incidence rates between the unvaccinated cohorts of the treatment arms, except in single years. For example, the rates of vaccine-type IPD, non-laboratory-confirmed IPD and empyema were lower in PHiD-CV10 clusters compared to control clusters in 2012, 2015 and 2011, respectively, in the age-group ≥5 years. Conclusions This is the first report from a clinical trial evaluating the indirect impact of a PCV against clinical outcomes in an unvaccinated population. We did not observe consistent indirect effects in the PHiD-CV10 clusters compared to the control clusters. We consider that the sub-optimal trial vaccination coverage did not allow the development of detectable indirect effects and that the supervening PCV-NVP significantly diminished the differences in PHiD-CV10 vaccination coverage between the treatment arms.

The unprecedented crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a shift in consumers’ attitude, behaviour and purchasing habits across the globe. While brands make all the efforts to cope up, they also need to devise strategies to survive in the post-crisis situation. It is in the light of this disturbed equilibrium that the present study is undertaken. Using structural equation modeling (SEM)-based analysis of 240 consumer responses, the article analyses the direct influence of pandemic communication and the indirect impact of brand attitude and product category on three specific brand outcomes, viz. image, trust and loyalty. The findings reveal a positive and significant impact of communication during pandemic on all three brand outcomes under investigation. Further, though the results do not divulge the moderating role of brand attitude, they establish the impact of pandemic communication on brand loyalty for non-essential product category. On the basis of the findings, the study yields useful suggestions that can be implemented by brands to hold themselves more strongly in the post-pandemic future.

This chapter integrates collectivism with the dimensions of the Expectancy Theory to investigate the direct and indirect impact of horizontal and vertical collectivism on employee motivation of operational and non-operational staff. Data were collected from 205 employees using a cross-sectional survey. Hypotheses were tested with multiple regression analysis. Across both employee categories, horizontal collectivism improves motivation while vertical collectivism does not have a significant impact on motivation. Mediation effects were significant in the relationship between horizontal collectivism across both employee categories. However, there were some variations in the mediation effects on the relationship between vertical collaboration and motivation across the two categories. This chapter contributes to motivation literature by integrating the Expectancy Theory with two under-investigated dimensions of collectivism to compare motivation determinants among operational and non-operational staff. This chapter presents implications for managers and policy for improving employee motivation.

This paper studies the impact of immigration to the United States on the vote share for the Republican Party using county-level data from 1990 to 2016. Our main contribution is to show that an increase in high-skilled immigrants decreases the share of Republican votes, while an inflow of low-skilled immigrants increases it. These effects are mainly due to the indirect impact on existing citizens’ votes, and this is independent of the origin country and race of immigrants. We find that the political effect of immigration is heterogeneous across counties and depends on their skill level, public spending, and noneconomic characteristics. (JEL D72, J15, J24, J61, R23)

The article presents the most important aspects of the geographic dimension of criminology. Referring the considerations to areas such as sociology or, in general, knowledge about society, the subject matter was formulated in an interdisciplinary way, indicating its complexity and, at the same time, importance from the point of view of social sciences. In this work, space is seen in many perspectives - as a factor that has both a direct and indirect impact on the distribution of crime. Human activity in a given area and the possibility of spatial development of the area in terms of the tasks it is to fulfill are also important. The article is a theoretical analysis in which the analysis of Polish and foreign-language literature was used, as well as a descriptive historical method. There were also comparative analyzes in legal terms. The applied methodology contributed to the implementation of in-depth inferences, the results of which are the conclusions and research postulates presented at the end of the work. The article is dedicated primarily to people who have an impact on architectural changes in the area of towns and villages. The issues presented make a reference to the still valid problem of crime prevention. Spatial prevention should not only account for the so far unused opportunities that lie open to civil society, but also be a real change in the approach to construction. The process of space revitalization will be effective only through meta-analyzes consisting in the first place in recognizing, identifying existing or potential threats, and then implementing, in the course of social consultations, well-thought-out solutions that fit into a given space architecturally. These actions will require changes in the approach to the current protection against undesirable behaviors, focusing not on reducing the effects of adverse effects, but leaning towards criminal and architectural prevention. For this purpose, new legal solutions adequate to the existing national conditions will also be necessary.

The present research aims to explore the perceived destination personality of the Larong Wuming Buddhist Academy, a site that is a pilgrimage destination in the Tibetan region of China, and to examine the influence of involvement as an antecedent on the destination personality. This study further investigates the direct and indirect impact of a destination personality on loyalty. A total of 2454 online travel reviews and a convenience sample of 348 usable surveys were analyzed. The personalities of the pilgrimage destination in three specific dimensions were revealed, namely, the religious, agreeable, and ethereal dimensions. The findings verified the positive effect of tourist involvement on the pilgrimage destination personality. Furthermore, in the context of a pilgrimage, the mediating role of self-congruity and satisfaction between the destination personality and loyalty has been confirmed.

The purpose of the article is to identify the main trends in the influence of jazz and music forms on pop culture. The research methodology involves recourse to an interdisciplinary approach, as well as the use of comparative, historical, and logical methods of analysis and culturological approach in the study of these issues. The scientific novelty of the work is to generalize the problems of interaction and influence of jazz features of vocals on the development of pop vocals, expanding knowledge about the development of pop and song culture in general. Conclusions. The formation of pop singing is inextricably linked with the widespread of music halls, variety shows, cabaret, pop theaters, and more. By the end of the twentieth century, the media, the Internet, and screen culture led to the spread of pop vocals on a new level and pop singing became an integral part of everyday life. All these aspects and features of the jazz genre-style system had an indirect impact on the work of composers who turned to songwriting in the pop sphere, considered jazz as a mediator between "serious" and light musical forms while giving jazz techniques creative and methodological potential. Understanding the music culture of specific pop-jazz types (genres) of modern music influences the understanding of pop, pop vocals, and pop-jazz music as a phenomenon of art. Keywords: jazz musical forms, pop vocals, pop-song culture.
