Ship engine room has a structure which has to meet a number of needs with regard to administrative conditions. Therefore, when the complicated structure of engine room are considered, even a simple mechanical failure, if no measures taken abruptly, grows into irreversible condition, causing losses that cannot be compensated. A well-qualified ship engine conductor along with an effective error detection system is needed to detect failure and act immediately against any engine impairments possible. This study aims to manage troubleshooting in main engine auxiliary systems which cover cooling, lubricating and cooling oil and fuel systems. The study is also thought to be a good reference for maintenance processes for marine engineering operators. Breakdown of main engine equipment are examined and troubles hooting program is developed for using Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (F-AHP) determine solution methods and causes of such breakdowns. In this paper, a fuzzy Multi Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) methodology was proposed to determine the most effected system of the ship main diesel engine. The results showed that fuel system was the most effected alternative, as being followed subsequently by cooling system, governor system, air supply system and oiling system. The results were based upon the opinions of three experts groups who ranked the ship main diesel engine systems alternatives according to twenty-nine criteria expert selected.

Simulators can be used as sophisticated, flexible and realistic training tools which are capable of meeting many of the designated functions and tasks. An engine room simulator consists of simulation of various machinery systems in the engine room of a ship. This type of simulator is very significant and compulsory for marine engineering education. Istanbul Technical University Maritime Faculty (ITUMF) obtained a set of full-mission simulator and workstation simulators in 2001. However, it was realized that the ergonomic principles were not applied properly. Therefore it was not possible to generate the real engine room conditions with this simulator due to lack of some operations and displays on the mimic panel. Some of the mimics and displays were not similar to ones on board ship. This situation was negatively affecting the performance of engine room simulator training. And the mimic panel was re-designed and installed in 2006. In this study, the ergonomics principles for designing a mimic panel are determined and the application of ergonomic principles to a mimic panel is explained. The ergonomic gains of applied ergonomics principles are mentioned. Even more the effects on the marine engineering education are stated.

Sustainable development of the transport industry can be provided through the introduction of combined transport systems. And one of the most promising ones is the train ferry transport system which combines railway and marine transport facilities. The article deals with the analysis and systematization of the data on the historical development of train ferry routes and describes the background for the construction of train ferry routes and their advantages over other combined transport types. It also deals with the basic features of the train ferries operating on the main international train ferry routes. The study is concerned with both sea routes and routes across rivers and lakes. The article shows the role of train ferry routes in the improvement of a national economy, and in the provision of the military defense, as it was described by Vinogradov at the example of Saratovskaya Pereprava (route) and by Karakashly and Shklyaruk at the example of the lighter Ishimbay which was loaded from the side. The authors have analyzed the development of the train ferry routes serviced by the ice-breaking train ferries Baikal across Lake Baikal, and the ferries Sakhalin linked mainland Russia and Sakhalin Island. The article deals with the peculiarities of transportation by trains ferries in the USA, Japan, Azerbaijan, Dagestan, Germany, Lithuania, and some other countries, and presents the analysis of the operational features of Ukrainian train ferries which connect Ukraine with Bulgaria, Georgia, and Turkey. Besides, the article describes some peculiarities of the loading and transportation of passenger trains by train ferries. The study deals with structural peculiarities, and processing technology used for modern train ferries operating across the Black Sea, the Caspian Sea and the Baltic Sea. The research is based on the analysis of works by Egorov (the Marine Engineering Bureau, Ukraine). The research emphasizes the importance of train ferry transportation for the sustainable development of national economies including the economy of Ukraine.

This work concerns the design, fabrication, and preliminary characterization of a novel sensor for determining the air intake of low and medium power internal combustion engines employed at various applications in the marine industry. The novelty of the presented sensor focuses on the fabrication process, which is based on additive manufacturing combined with PCB technology, and the design of the sensing elements housing geometry, which is derived through suitable CFD simulations and is based on standard airfoil geometry. The proposed process enables low-cost, fast fabrication, effective thermal isolation, and facile electrical interconnection to the corresponding circuitry of the sensor. For initial characterization purposes, the prototype device was integrated into a DIESEL engine testbed while a commercially available mass air flow sensor was employed as a reference; the proper functionality of the developed prototype has been validated. Key features of the proposed device are low-cost, fast on-site manufacturing of the device, robustness, and simplicity, suggesting numerous potential applications in marine engineering.

The paper presents the results of analysis and processing with the help of the mathematical apparatus of the "science of big data" of information received in the monitoring system of the stress-strain state of a marine engineering structure. For data analysis, the machine learning procedure with a teacher is used, various machine learning models are considered. An example of the analysis of the results of the monitoring system of the stress-strain state of an offshore oil production platform is given. Options for optimizing the system are proposed - reducing the number of sensors under consideration. Mathematical models have been created to restore the values of specially excluded sensors, as well as to build short-and long-term forecasts. With the help of big data analysis, new information has been obtained that is suitable for practical and scientific purposes.

Evaluation and analysis of production and technological works of shipbuilding enterprises is conditioned by the need to ensure the competitiveness of newly created marine equipment facilities with quality indicators at the level of the world's best samples, while increasing the pace of technical and economic development of their production. This problem dictates the need for an adequate assessment of the state of technical equipment of production, as well as the most effective ways of investing funds for technical re-equipment. The technical equipment of production largely depends on the level of automation, mechanization of technological processes, the volume of manual work, the design and technological features of the created objects of marine equipment, serial production, etc. For shipbuilding, marine engineering, taking into account single and small-scale production, a high proportion of manual labor is characteristic, especially when performing mechanical installation work. The article proposes a fundamentally new approach to the assessment of production and technological works (levels of technical equipment of production) of shipbuilding enterprises. The results of calculations and estimates on the example of repartitions (types of work) are given mechanical assembly production for a group of domestic shipbuilding enterprises. The proposed method of evaluation of production and technological works (potentials) is universal for all types of shipbuilding and machine-building works.
