This study argues that container loading and unloading congestion at Tanjung Priok Port is caused by long dwelling time due to the limited capacity of existing container terminals. Therefore, the Kalibaru Terminal was built to overcome this problem. The research objective is to look at the planning, construction, and operation of the Kalibaru Terminal. This study uses historical methods consisting of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results of this study indicate that the construction of the Kalibaru Terminal is a superior project of government and private cooperation so that it must go through an international tender. The development of Kalibaru Terminal aims to increase productivity and accelerate economic growth. The existence of the Kalibaru Terminal also caused the flow of goods to run smoothly and decrease in dwelling time from eight to three days.

<p><span lang="PT-BR">PT Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT) is the largest container port in Indonesia. Currently, JICT capacity is 2.5 million TEUs (Twenty-foot Equivalent Units) per year, it continues to strive to improve international services and is supported by adequate container loading and unloading equipment. The requirement to establish common standards in different types of container port equipment and identify performance indicators to assess the performance of container handling equipment has increased. Although the Quay Container Crane (QCC) operating system may be different at each container terminal, there are similarities in its main movements, namely: Main Hoist, Trolley, Gantry, and Boom. By knowing the clock metric for each movement, it is possible to determine the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) that has been adopted and assess the performance of the Quay Container Crane (QCC). The results of the study identified that the value of MMBF (Mean Move Between Failures) decreased due to the accumulation of long-lasting heavy load operations, while the number of maintenance activities for machine parts and working hours continued to increase. Key Performance Indicator (KPI) as a management tool can guide QCC inspections and the results can provide useful insights for improving the performance of equipment and container loading and unloading operations in the future.</span></p>

1990’s saw the robust expansion of international trade in East Asia generating a remarkable record high and sustained economic growth unmatched by any other region in the world. In line with this, container tonnage in the region has been ever increased annually. In light of this, the governments in the main ports of the region have plunged substantial investment in expanding and developing new container terminals to cope with the ever increased cargoes out/to the region. Though Lehman Shock in 2008 has given a huge impact on the container volumes in Asia, ports in the East Asia are seen to continue to handle the lion’s share of global container business. In 2013, the container throughput of East Asia accounted for 51.2 per cent out of that of the world, becoming the world container center.

Numerous studies show that there is a positive correlation between education and the economic development of the country. Strong education systems have a positive impact not only on the success of individuals but also on the economy of the entire country. Graduates equipped with the skills required by the labor market can easily find a place in this market. Knowledge and skills relevant to market demand increase productivity have a positive impact on economic growth and development. Unfortunately, Covid Pandemic has severely damaged the education systems. Governments, scientists, and experts provide us with statistical information daily around the world about both the slowdown in economic growth as a whole and the problems of individual sectors of the economy. These are the problems and numbers that are already visible and it can be said that the losses are easily measurable. However, the damage caused to the economy by education systems affected by the pandemic will be felt by countries and humanity years later, nor will it be easy to calculate. The problem is even more difficult in poor and developing countries. This paper aims to study the impact of the Covid Pandemic on the education system and economy in Georgia. The research examines the reports and studies of various international organizations, analyzing the secondary data obtained from them. Local policy documents, government reports and regulations, and papers of different researchers have also been studied, conclusions have been made and relevant recommendations have been developed.

With the rapid growth of containers and scarce of land, the underground container logistics system (UCLS) presents a logical alternative for container terminals to better protect the environment and relieve traffic pressure. The operating efficiency of container terminals is one of the competitive edges over other terminals, which requires UCLS to be well integrated with the handling process of the storage yard. In UCLS, yard trucks (YTs) serve different handling points dynamically instead of one fixed handling point, and yard cranes (YCs) perform loading and unloading simultaneously. To minimize the total time of handling all containers in UCLS, the mixed integer programming problem is described and solved using an adaptive genetic algorithm (AGA). The convergence speed and accuracy of AGA are demonstrated by comparison with conventional genetic algorithm (GA). Additionally, AGA and CPLEX are compared with different scale cases. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is superior to CPLEX in resulted solutions and calculation time. A sensitivity analysis is provided to obtain reasonable numbers of YTs for scheduling between handling points and the storage yard in UCLS.

As the macroeconomic environment stabilized, business rushed to invest. Westerners often focus on ‘capital flight’ out of Russia, but the reality is that the 2000s were a boom period for investment by Russian and foreigners. The results were widely evident, as new businesses opened and productivity shot up. In sectors such as retail and steel, for example, productivity levels doubled relative to the United States, the productivity leader. Russian firms still trail far behind, but during the 2000s they made great strides. Russia is often criticized for being overly dependent on oil and gas. Certainly the country would benefit from a more diversified economy. Yet it is wrong to credit economic growth during the Putin era simply to high oil prices. Windfall oil profits are capable of boosting consumption, but they do not increase productivity. The fact that Russian firms increased productivity so rapidly shows that other factors—a stable macroeconomic climate coupled with the tenacity of Russia’s entrepreneurs—were powering the economy forward.

At a container port, container vessels are served by quay cranes for loading and unloading containers. Each vessel is typically split into bays from head to tail where containers are stored. Parallel quay cranes can process different bays simultaneously, and their processing efficiency significantly affects the turn-around time of a container vessel. Sharing a single traveling rail, the quay cranes cannot crossover each other, and this phenomenon is referred as the non-crossing constraint. In addition, the quay cranes may have different processing speeds due to gradual equipment updates. Inspired by updating activities of cranes in modern container terminals, this paper studies a scheduling problem with two uniform quay cranes, aiming at minimizing the turn-around time of a vessel, i.e., the makespan. We mainly develop an integrated approximation algorithm which is [Formula: see text]-approximation, where the two quay cranes are of processing speeds 1 and [Formula: see text], respectively.

Under anarchy, uncoordinated competitive theft by “roving bandits” destroys the incentive to invest and produce, leaving little for either the population or the bandits. Both can be better off if a bandit sets himself up as a dictator—a “stationary bandit” who monopolizes and rationalizes theft in the form of taxes. A secure autocrat has an encompassing interest in his domain that leads him to provide a peaceful order and other public goods that increase productivity. Whenever an autocrat expects a brief tenure, it pays him to confiscate those assets whose tax yield over his tenure is less than their total value. This incentive plus the inherent uncertainty of succession in dictatorships imply that autocracies will rarely have good economic performance for more than a generation. The conditions necessary for a lasting democracy are the same necessary for the security of property and contract rights that generates economic growth.

This study aimed to describe the activities of Tuju-Tuju Port in the period of 1990 to 2015. The Tuju-Tuju Port in Bone Regency is a port that transports various commodities produced from several areas in South Sulawesi to other areas, especially to East Nusa Tenggara and its surroundings. The result study showed the activities in Tuju-Tuju Port that the ships going in and out of Tuju-Tuju Port were crowded everyday. Even though the port condition is not yet fully adequate, the loading and loading of goods still continues. The method used was the historical method with analytical descriptive consisting heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and writing. The Tuju-Tuju Port in Bone Regency is a companion port from other ports in Bone Regency. The Tuju-Tuju Port can affect the local economy, such as increasing regional income and opening up job opportunities for the productive ages. The Tuju-Tuju Port over time has also developed the existing loading and unloading system with simple facilities and infrastructure in Tuju-Tuju Port. Daily activities continue, so the ships that are leaning on the pier and waiting for departure scheduled are crowded adorning the harbor.
