The article discusses the possible ecological and environmental threats that Europe can be faced with in the nearest future, along with the possible scenarios of the damage. The analysis presents several ideas for dealing with the threats, as well as problem-solving models, with special attention paid to Jeremy Rifkin’s ‘Third Industrial Revolution Concept’. The basis of the concept is the social aspect of the ecological change that the future may bring about. The demands and challenges that will have to be met as a result of the change are central for this article.

Sustainable development constitutes a paradigm which is to respond to the risks of our times (environmental, social and economic ones). It is based on the necessity to use resources in a way which will not deprive future generations of them. Such a development seeks to improve the quality of life of the community while maintaining social equality, diversity and the wealth of natural resources. It can be perceived as a broader social change which Jeremy Rifkin called “the third industrial revolution”, and whose symptoms can be seen today. Within the scope of this concept, there is the social entrepreneurship that, through the market activities, focuses on the social mission. Such a mission may concern a number of issues, such as social re-integration, fighting exclusion, or environment protection. Taking into account the importance of human resources, the social capital and economic efficiency of these enterprises and simultaneously focusing on environmental efforts, constitute a practical dimension of the sustainable development in local communities. One of the social cooperatives operating in the Opole voivodship is a good example here.

These societal evils have extended their tentacles to educational life of man, the Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria especially the Universities, which are to provide the needed man power, acquisition of skills and refinement of moral for the future leaders of the country, have become the breeding grounds for ignoramus, hoodlums, cheaters, rapists, prostitutes, etc. The study adopted historical, descriptive and phenomenological methods in carrying out the research.  The paper revealed some notable immoralities which are the order of the day in the Nigerian Tertiary Institutions and are posing threats to educational developments in the nation. The paper concluded that religious universities are alternatives in controlling the rate at which the immoralities are growing.  Thus, it recommended that Islamic Universities should be given licenses as the lasting solution to the menace through their series of programmer which are in consonance with the tenets of Islam.

Human factor plays an important role in the implementation of the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). The concept of Industry 4.0 is poorly researched, particularly the social aspect. The authors have conducted a study to determine the level of preparation of employees for the introduction of technological changes. This study involved conducting a survey on a sample of 453 employees based in four organizations within the automotive industry. The respondents were thereafter divided into groups based on age and positions held. The employees’ knowledge of the Industry 4.0 technology was examined, and their openness to change and readiness to increase competence was determined. A causal relationship was found between knowledge and trust in technology. Employees’ fears associated with production automation were discussed. A group of production workers was found to be the least prepared to implement technology changes. Actions to improve the situation and potential consequences of inadequate implementation of this technology were indicated. The findings from this study were compared with the results obtained in other countries. Special attention was paid to the limitations of this study, and we identified the necessity to conduct international comparative research on small, medium and large enterprises.

The article describes the main functions of socially oriented innovation in connection with technical innovations  – drivers of the third industrial revolution. Analysis of domestic and foreign innovative publications helped to formulate the basic principles of innovation in the social sphere. Directions of long-term stimulation of innovation activity in conditions of digital transformation have been developed. They are based on basic principles. It is also shown that the socio-economic development of the country should be based on qualitative population growth. Otherwise, the strategic importance of socio-economic policy is nulled and futuristic uncertainty comes. It is proposed to stimulate innovation in social sectors by increasing the innovative mentality of future generations of Belarusian people, improving the exchange of data in the system of information support of science, and by increasing the number of available sources of financing for innovations.

Abstract. Background: Suicide can have a lasting impact on the social life as well as the physical and mental health of the bereaved. Targeted research is needed to better understand the nature of suicide bereavement and the effectiveness of support. Aims: To take stock of ongoing studies, and to inquire about future research priorities regarding suicide bereavement and postvention. Method: In March 2015, an online survey was widely disseminated in the suicidology community. Results: The questionnaire was accessed 77 times, and 22 records were included in the analysis. The respondents provided valuable information regarding current research projects and recommendations for the future. Limitations: Bearing in mind the modest number of replies, all from respondents in Westernized countries, it is not known how representative the findings are. Conclusion: The survey generated three strategies for future postvention research: increase intercultural collaboration, increase theory-driven research, and build bonds between research and practice. Future surveys should include experiences with obtaining research grants and ethical approval for postvention studies.

The article examines trends in voting preferences and voting behavior of Turkish-origin German voters. Despite only representing a small percentage of the total German electorate, Turkish-origin voters are gaining an opportunity to shape the future political landscape. While the Social Democrats have benefited most directly from the minority constituency so far, this author suggests that the Green Party is poised to attract the younger, better educated, and German-born segment of the Turkish-origin voters. All other dominant national parties have ignored this emerging voting bloc, and missed opportunities to appeal to Turkish-origin voters by disregarding community-specific interests.
