AbstractIn anticipatory governance (AG) and responsible innovation (RI), anticipation is a key theoretical and practical dimension for promoting a more responsible governance of new and emerging sciences and technologies. Yet, anticipation has been subjected to a range of criticisms, such that many now see it as unnecessary for AG and RI. According to Alfred Nordmann, practices engaging with ‘the future’, when performed under certain conditions, may reify the future, diminish our ability to see what is happening, and/or reproduce the illusion of control over the future. Several authors have stressed that these critiques fail to capture the heterogeneous character of anticipatory practices, and yet research on the question of what particular kind of socio-epistemic engagements with ‘the future’ AG and RI aim to enact through anticipation remains fragmentary and their underlying rationale under-theorised. This article aims to advance the theoretical characterisation and problematisation of anticipation as key interventive tools for AG and RI. By distinguishing between four modes of anticipation and heuristically testing them against Nordmann’s critiques, the article argues that despite his assessment failing to recognise the heterogeneity of anticipatory practices considered valuable for AG and RI, it reinforces the relevance of performing certain modes of anticipatory exercises, namely critical-hermeneutic ones. Thus, anticipation continues to be a necessary heuristic dimension for AG and RI. More concretely, the article maintains that such anticipatory heuristics may find their radical constructive and critical-reflective character in the dynamics of inclusive scrutiny and negotiation about the (im)plausibility and (un)desirability of the envisioned or (co-)created futures.

Krause's philosophy had a deep and long influence in Spain, where krausism went beyond academia to turn their ideas into reality by means of different associations and institutions. The reception of krausean thought took place in a really hostile context, especially due to the rejection by intransigent Catholicism that vilified Spanish krausism in terms of Religion, morals, politics and education. Despite that fact, krausism proved to be very influential in social theory, politics and education from the second half of the 19th century to the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War in 1936. This work is a summary presentation, a revisitation and an updated account of the history of krausism in Spain (with some references to Latin America) focusing on íts practical dimension.

Abstract: Within the context of Brotherhood Sufism, the collective ritual dhikr session, usually referred to as majlis, shows similar characteristics even in very different contexts. Although this practice has an absolutely primary importance and function in the context of Sufism, no specific study has yet been devoted to its analysis. In particular, no attention has been paid until now to its formation process, not only in its practical dimension, but also and above all from a symbolic and metaphorical point of view. In this paper I will therefore try to highlight how the practice of Sufi majlis shows the direct influence of two complex theological metaphors: the metaphor of kingship, which is exercised on Sufi majlisthrough the metaphorical and real relationship between kingship and spiritual power, and the metaphor of the banquet of the blessed in paradise.

In this paper, the old view of self-knowledge as a practical achievement is vindicated. Constitutivism, the view that connects self-knowledge to the rational agency, thus taking a step towards this practical dimension, is discussed first. But their assumption of an epistemic asymmetry that privileges self-knowledge is found mistaken. The practical dimension of self-knowledge, its potential transformative power, is accounted in terms of the interiorization of the concepts acquired in intersubjective interaction.

This paper investigates basic issues related to the translation of Taiwanese literature in Poland. Assuming the Juliane House’s definitions that translation is “a cognitive procedure and a social, cross-linguistic and cross-cultural practice”, I discuss this matter theoretically and practically on three major levels pertaining to literature and communication between both languages and cultures. According to the system approach, the model is divided into: 1) Source/Taiwan literature; 2) Target/Polish reader; 3) Mediation/Translator and is imbued with reflection on representation, cultural and political context and equivalence in translation’s polysystem. In the practical dimension the analysis refers to a particular case, which is the preparation of the first Polish translation of Taiwanese Contemporary Short Stories. This article also reveals the decision-making process concerning the most representative selection of different genres, periods, stylistics, authors and messages. The anthology of contemporary Taiwanese short stories[1] debated here is being compiled from the perspective of translators, who are Sinologists teaching at the University of Warsaw. In line with the concepts of anthology theoreticians, this kind of academic edition with references and critical comment supports the Polish reader in the process of correct decoding of the text and many contexts of Taiwanese literature.   [1] In Polish: Na drugim brzegu. Abstract The aim of the study is to present the principles of civil liability for damage caused to a passenger for which an air carrier is responsible, regulated by the Warsaw and Montreal Conventions, and the norms of national law providing issues that are not included in international law acts. The paper presents a historical overview of the applicable Conventions. The provisions of the Polish Civil Code that are useful for interpretation of law institutions and complement the legal norms contained in the Conventions are also presented. The compiled issues put the legal norms contained in various law systems in order by indicating the practical dimension of the pursuit of potential claims by passengers vis-à-vis air carriers. This is followed by a discussion of the grounds for excluding third party liability of an air carrier in case of excessive or illegitimate claims of the carrier’s clients, and of the insurer.

The contract is the subject of civil law that creates the basic entity of the national and international economy, and the contracting process is the most important stage in economic affairs in general. Naturally producing effects between the parties, we can say that vis-à-vis the parties, the contract is binding, or, in other words, the signatory parties must comply with the provisions of the contract. On the other hand, compared to third parties, the effects of the contract being only an exception, we can say that the production of the effects towards them is relative. This study represents an exemplary synthesis of the theoretical and practical dimension of the issue of the third party notion in the light of the new regulations of the Civil Code, norms that created new ways of economic development of the Republic of Moldova.

The peculiarities of the “domestic” and political worlds’ interactions as well as their impact on the freedom of human choice are considered in the article. The purpose of the article is to analyze political and existential being which can be transformed in the light of collecting or distracting way. The phenomenon of national security is analyzed in theoretical as well as in practical dimension. The first part of the study of separatism is connected with the modern social world’s tendency of social transgression which involves blurring the rules and limits expansion. The frontier concept as the transgressive space, which can be embodied in the form of possibility of political interaction or as a place of a political conflict, is offered. Frontier understanding in the light of a cultural dialogue permits to consider it as a perspective dynamic system in the social projects of common being construction. The second part of the article reveals three main directions of transgression: philosophical and reflexive, ethical and normative, common practices. An idea of correlation between freedom of choice, manifestation of will with the human ability of critical thinking, reflection is offered and proved. Tolerance is defined to be the strategical practice in the process of launching a dialogue program of conflicting political communication.
