Fairness in income distribution is a factor that both motivates employees and contributes to maintaining social stability. In Vietnam, fair income distribution has been studied from various perspectives. In this article, through the analysis and synthesis of related documents and evidence, and from the perspective of economic philosophy, the author applies John Rawls’s Theory of Justice as Fairness to analyze some issues arising from the implementation of the state’s role in ensuring fair income distribution from 1986 to present. These are unifying the perception of fairness in income distribution; solving the relationship between economic efficiency and social equality; ensuring benefits for the least-privileged people in society; and controlling income. On that basis, the author makes some recommendations to enhance the state’s role in ensuring fair income distribution in Vietnam. Faculty engagement has been proved to be a critical driver of the universities’ efficiency and effectiveness. The first step towards building an engaged workforce is to get a measure of faculty perceptions of their engagement level to their universities. Accordingly, the purpose of this paper is to investigate the faculty members' engagement in the Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University. It examines the relationship between the faculty professional variablesand their level of engagement to their institutions. William Kahn's (1990) three-component model of employee engagement was partially adapted as a framework to measure the faculty members' engagement. A questionnaire was used to better address the objective of this study. The data were obtained from the Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (Dammam University) through an internet-based survey. The validity and the reliability of the questionnaire has been evaluated and reported. Results of the analyses show that cognitive engagement is reported to be higher than both the emotional and physical engagement, with a mean rating of 4.040 and a standard deviation of .487, based on the five-point scale. Given the engagement level of the faculty members in this study, the university administrators should develop policies, and strategies that encourage and support engagement among faculty members at the University in order to maximize their engagement. Policy makers must also take into consideration the needs of the faculty members

AbstractThe contemporary realist turn in philosophy can be seen as a reaction to a merely constructivist understanding of being. The formulation of a realist ontology was already the central concern of Nicolai Hartmann’s philosophy. Hartmann argues that in order to pose the ontological question critically, a realist analysis of the cognitive relation must precede posing the question of being. From the critical analysis, it follows that the cognitive relation is embedded in the relationship of being. Thus, the epistemic relation becomes understandable in the sense of beings encountering and touching one another. In this respect, some proponents of the contemporary realist turn emphasize that there is a philosophically relevant experience of being that can be understood as resistance. Beyond this statement, Hartmann’s analysis of the encounter with being is able to take into account the fact that different kinds of being touch us differently.

Hala ere, oraindik arazo batzuk diraute, direla kontzeptualak, direla aplikaziokoak, eta interes ukaezina dute horiek guztiek: arrazoiketaren izatasun formala edo substantiboa eztabaidatzen da; arrazoiketaren eta justifikazioaren arteko harremanak konplexuak eta eztabaidagarriak dira oraindik; ez dago adostasunik kontzeptu juridiko zehaztugabeak aplikatzen dituzten administrazio-ebazpenak arrazoitu edo ez arrazoitu beharraz; arrazoiketaren kontroleko automurrizketa judizialak atzera egin du sektore batzuetan, eta beste batzuetan, aldiz, modu aski eztabaidagarrian mantendu da, eta azkeneko lerro jurisprudentzialek erakusten dute kontrol judizialaren irismen zilegia gatazkatsua dela oraindik. Honako lan honek balioespen kritiko bat egiten du doktrina zientifikoan zein jurisdikzionalean dauden azken jarraibideetan, eta era berean proposamen kontzeptual eta interpretatibo batzuk eskaintzen ditu, Administrazioaren kontrol judizialaren alderdi ilun horien bilakaera egokiari laguntzeko. The prohibition of arbitrariness, the duty to give reasons and the duty to justify decisions have become principles of main relevance in the judicial control of administrative discretion. However, there still remain important and interesting theoretical and practical problems: the formal or substantive nature of motivation is controversial; the relationship between motivation and justification is difficult and unclear; there is no agreement over the duty to motivate decisions that apply opentexture concepts; our tribunals leave the doctrine of self-restriction in some cases at the same time that they strongly maintained it in others without a clear justification; and the last judicial resolutions that determine the scope of the duty to give reasons show that this is still a difficult issue. This article approaches a critical analysis of the recent trends in these fields with the purpose to offer theoretical and interpretative proposals that should contribute to an adequate evolution of these problematic aspects of the judicial control of the Administration.

An essential part of grinding technology is the conditioning process for the generation of the grinding wheel shape and of a sharp topography. Through the sharpening process the required cutting grains are exposed from the bond and sufficient chip space is ensured by putting back the bonding. A CNC-controlled sharpening process can lead to an improvement in process reliability and the economic efficiency. Extensive experimental investigations were carried out to determine the relationship between the sharpening parameters and the sharpening result.

The paper summarizes the features of the project-oriented enterprise in modern conditions. A model of operation of a project-oriented enterprise has also been built. It is established that each enterprise goes through different stages of its transformation into project-oriented, which must take into account the strategic goals of the enterprise. When transforming into a project- oriented enterprise should take into account the industry affiliation of the enterprise and the peculiarities of its activities. Usually the company has a linear organizational structure, and project-oriented - matrix or project. The main criteria that affect the process of transformation of the enterprise into a project-oriented are knowledge, technology, processes, communications, project management, standards and norms. For a project-oriented enterprise is characterized by both operational (permanent) activities and project (temporary). The relationship between operational and project activities and their interaction depends on the stage of transformation of the enterprise into project-oriented. Different management approaches are used for each activity. Operational activities are performed by full-time employees of the enterprise, who are employees of the company's departments, and project activities - the project team, which may consist of employees of the enterprise, as well as may involve external team members. Operational and project activities should be in close cooperation, which will achieve a positive synergistic effect, which will affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the enterprise, as well as its competitiveness. Innovative development of the enterprise is carried out with the help of implemented projects, and its results have a significant impact on operating activities. The activities of a project-oriented enterprise are closely connected with the external environment. The knowledge management system is the most important component of the process of transforming an enterprise into a project-oriented one.

This study examines the relationship between motor carrier productivity, marketing strategy, and use of information technology for a sample of U.S. general freight commodity carriers. We use a unique data set containing information on firm marketing strategy and information technology use collected in a survey of Class I and II motor carrier firms (U.S. Department of Transportation, 1999). The measure of productivity used here is the non-parametric Malmquist Index as explained in Grosskopf (1993) and previously applied to general freight motor carriers by McMullen and Okuyama (2000). The Malmquist Index is decomposed into two components: economic efficiency change (EC) and technical efficiency change (TC). A tobit model regression model is used to examine the relationship between firm productivity, marketing strategy, and use of information technology. Information technologies included in the tobit analysis are electronic data interchange (EDI) and satellite communications (SATCOM). We also include firm size, use of owner-operators, and percent unionization as explanatory variables in the tobit regression. Results indicate that use of EDI has a positive and significant impact on economic efficiency (EC). Firms that try to market their product by providing service at the "lowest freight rate" are found to exhibit greater technical efficiency (TC), suggesting that productivity and cost measures that ignore marketing strategy may be biased. Finally, economic efficiency (EC) is found to be significantly greater for firms that are more heavily unionized.
