AbstractStudy aim: Assessment of postural stability performed on an unstable stabilometry platform. Comparison of the results ob­tained by two groups consisting of elderly (OW) (60+ years old) and younger women (YW).Material and methods: Seventy-three female volunteers were divided into two groups: 40 young women (20.2 ± 1.75), and 32 elderly women (68.3 ± 7.43). Participants performed five stability tests on Biodex Balance System SD: three 20-second tries, the Postural Stability Test (PST) and the Fall Risk Test (FRT). Three stability indexes - overall (OSI), anterior-posterior (APSI), and medial-lateral (MLSI) - both with eyes open (EO) and closed (EC) were analyzed. The impact of vision on balance was calculated as EC-EO. Also effect size was calculated and evaluated.Results: All of the parameters differed significantly between groups in favour of YW. The largest difference in significance as well as effect size was noted for FRT, p < 0.001 and 1.86 respectively. Tries measure the impact of vision on balance (EC-EO). The results concerning tries with EC-EO showed the strongest discrimination between groups - OSI p = 0.0088 (relative differ­ence 0.23 ± 0.26) and APSI p = 0.0268 (relative difference 0.17 ± 0.2). YW had a significantly better outcome.Conclusions: YW had better results in all of the parameters taken into consideration, with most of them being significant. This confirms that all of the regressive changes appearing with age influence balance. Lack of visual input (EC) in OW caused sig­nificantly worse results in most of the measured parameters, showing that vision is a very important factor for balance mainte­nance in the elderly.

There is a paucity of clinical data available on specific treatment in the oncogeriatric population with breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to evaluate treatment patterns and survival outcomes in the elderly to address any disparities at our community hospital. We retrospectively identified a total of 1749 patients diagnosed and treated for breast cancer at our institution between 2001 and 2011. Patient demographics, surgical treatment, stage of disease, tumor characteristics, adjuvant therapy, and 5-year survival data were obtained from tumor registry records. Comparisons between study groups were made using the Pearson χ2 test and Student's t test. We found more favorable prognostic makers among women older than 70 years of age. Of the women with lymph node-positive disease, 84 per cent of those younger than 70 years and 33 per cent in the older than 70 years of age study group received chemotherapy. Adjuvant chemotherapy and radiation therapy were more frequently performed in the younger group. Overall 5-year survival was 90 per cent and 71 per cent for younger than 70 years and older than 70 years groups, respectively. Women older than 70 years of age have more favorable breast cancer characteristics compared with younger women and received less aggressive treatment and experienced a higher mortality rate. Prospective trials are needed to assess the impact of aggressive multimodality therapy in this oncogeriatric population.

This study aimed to describe the health-related quality of life of elderly women with experience in fall treatment as well as to prepare basic data for the development of interventions to improve the quality of life for this group. The study was based on raw data from the 2019 Korea Community Health Survey. Using the SPSS program, the characteristics of the subjects were tested by frequency, percentage, and chi-square test. To establish the impact of fall experience on the health-related quality of life of elderly women, the OR and 95% CI were calculated using multiple logistic regression analysis. Of the 4260 people surveyed, 44.7% of the elderly women said they had a high quality of life, whereas 55.3% of the elderly women said they had a low quality of life. A younger age was associated with a better-rated health-related quality of life. Those who lived in a city and had a high level of education tended to describe a high quality of life. The quality of life was considered high by those who exercised, but low by those who were obese or diabetic. The results of this study can lead to a better understanding of the experiences of elderly women who have experienced falls, and they can be used as basic data for the development of related health programs.

This paper uses prospective data from the Matlab surveillance system in rural Bangladesh to demonstrate that initially co-resident spouses and sons have a major impact on the subsequent mortality of old people, with significant differences by the sex of the elderly person, and the age of the son. Spouses significantly reduce mortality by similar magnitudes for both elderly men and women. On the other hand, co-resident adult sons reduce mortality for elderly women much more than for elderly men, with younger sons being more beneficial than older sons. Furthermore, both married and unmarried females appear to benefit equally from co-resident adult sons. Finally, this analysis suggests that the impact of spouses and sons on mortality in old age is not substantially mediated through changes in elderly economic status.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the static and dynamic postural stability in patients undergone arthroscopic cell-free osteochondral scaffold surgery due to talus ostekondrol lesions. Methods: 8 patients diagnosed with osteochondral lesion of the talus urdergone arthroscopic cell-free osteokondral scaffold surgery were included in this study (mean age; 43.2±15.6 years). Only one patient was operated from non-dominant side. Static postural stability (SPS) was evaluated with"Biodex, Biosway Portable Balance System" as bilateral eyes open and closed 1 year after surgery. Dynamic postural stability (DPS) was assessed with the Y Balance Test (anterior, posteromedial, posterolateral directions). Score of static and dynamic postural stability between the operated side and the other side were compared with the Wilcoxon test. Results: At the assesment of static postural stability, there was no statistical difference between the operated side and the other side in the anteroposterior, mediolateral and total scores (p>0.05). Similarly, all three directions of Y balance test values did not differ statistically between the two sides (p>0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that postural stability of patients who were applied arthroscopic cell-free osteokondral scaffold surgery in the operated side have reached the same level those of other side after 1 year surgery. This situation should be taken into consideration when planning the early stages of rehabilitation programs.

The aim of the study was to assess the impact of a vestibular-stimulating exercise regime on postural stability in individuals with visual impairment. The study group consisted of 70 people, including 28 persons (15 female and 13 male) with visual impairment and 42 (21 female and 21 male) without visual impairment. Each individual in the group with visual impairment was medically qualified for a 3-month training program. The research methodology included medical examination, anthropometric tests, and stabilometry tests on a Biodex Balance System SD (BBS). The tests were conducted twice: once before the start of training and again after 3 months of rehabilitation. The group with visual impairment showed significantly worse postural stability results than the control group for most of the stability parameters evaluated (OSI, APSI, and MLSI). Differences were noted between the groups with and without visual impairment for dynamic tests in women and for static tests in men. After training, the two groups showed roughly similar results for the stabilometry test with eyes closed. We conclude that exercises stimulating the vestibular system with head and body movements should be recommended for individuals with visual impairments to achieve better balance retention.

Background: Menopausal women are more prone to have hypertension. Estrogen can cause narrowing of the arteries, which cause an increase in blood pressure. The impact of hypertension on older adults become a significant factor in the occurrence of stroke, heart failure, and coronary heart disease. The elderly who are more than 60 years old may die of heart and cerebrovascular disease. Add more support senetence to highlight the imprortance of your study. Objective: To determine the relationship between the age of menopause and hypertension in women in Kamurang and Rawakuda village in KedungWaringin sub-district, Bekasi regency in 2019. Method: This study uses a cross-sectional approach; the sampling technique used in this study is to a total sampling with 42 respondents. The variables in this study include dependence variable, namely hypertention while the independent variable is the age of menopause,and the confounding variables Reage, genetic,caffeine and salt intake. The writer analyzes variables using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis using chi-square while multivariate analysis using multiple logistic regression tests. Results: Therelationshipofmenopausalagewithhypertensioninolderwomenhasap-valueof 0.499 with an OR value of 1.597 (CI: 0.412-6189) controlled by high salt intake variable. Elderly with age experiencing menopause older than average (50 years) will have the risk of developing hypertension 1.597 times greater than the elderly who experience younger menopause after being controlled by high salt intake variable. Conclusion: Elderly with age experiencing menopause older than average (50 years) will have a risk of developing hypertension 1.597 times greater than the elderly who experience younger menopause after being controlled by high saltin take variable.For researchers who would like to conduct further research, it is recommended to investigate the most dominant or most influential factors which influence the occurrence of hypertension in elderly women.

Each older person's perception of their health status is a fundamental factor in understanding quality of life and should be considered in social interventions. Health is one of the main concerns of the elderly, since at this stage of life there is a change in functional capacity and, consequently, a greater sense of fragility and dependence. The aim of this study was to analyze the perceived health of a group of elderly people attending the Day Care Centre (DC) and Home Support Service (HSS), as well as its comparison with the previous year, with the peer group and with the impact of the Pandemic. We conducted a questionnaire survey. We found that there is a relationship between gender and self-assessment of health status, with women being the ones who mostly make a negative assessment. Most of the older people had an "acceptable" value for self-assessment of health, followed by older people with a negative view of their health and only a very small number considered it to be positive. When health status was compared with the previous year the majority consider it to be "more or less the same" showing an adaptive process to ageing, followed by those who consider that their health status had worsened compared to the previous year. 38.1% of the elderly respondents considered that the pandemic had an impact on their health. All of them were female and belonged to the DC, a social response which suffered major impacts from the pandemic. Most of these elderly women consider that the greatest impact of this pandemic was at the psychological level.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine the effect of obesity and age on body balance disorders in women over 60, especially whether obesity increases the FR in older females and whether age and obesity affect the same stabilographic parameters when it comes to the FR. Methods: The study consisted of 56 inactive females aged 71.77 ± 7.43 (SD). They were divided into groups according to age and obesity. Results: Obesity separately affects FRI12-6, static indicators with eyes closed (OSI EC, APSI EC, MLSI EC), and age affects FRI12-6 and static indices with eyes open (OSI EO, APSI EO). After considering design factors (age and obesity), there were statistically significant differences in OSI EO (p = 0.027), APSI EO (p = 0.034), FRI12-6 (p = 0.0002) between obese and non-obese participants in the age groups. There were no statistical differences between non-obese old and obese-young participants (p = 0.863). The interaction between obesity and age in the FR in static indices and in FRI12-6 (p = 0.73047) was not significant. Conclusions: Age and obesity affect the stabilographic parameters individually, but there is no interaction effect between them. The presence of only one of the above risk factors may increase the FR. Obesity affects stability, while age depends on other factors. If older people are not obese or fit, involutional changes could be reversed. The type of obesity and the location of the fat tissue should be taken into account in FR assessment.

With the increase in life expectancy, it is important to acknowledge the impact of health promotion programs on the elderly. The aimed of this study was to evaluate the influence of the Rio de Janeiro Ar Livre physical program on the functional autonomy of octogenarian elderly women´s. To this end, elderly women´s from 19 Rio de Janeiro Ar Livre program gyms were selected for the experimental group (EG) (n=23; 82.57±3.78 years), and for the Control Group (CG) (n=17; 82.88±2.23 years) from the attending cohabitation houses of the City of Rio de Janeiro. To access the functional autonomy was used Rikli and Jones (1999) protocol in two times separated by (28 weeks). It was observed in the EG a significant (p=0.010) increase in Upper limbs' strength test (13.00±3.41 to 15.09±3.60 times, pre and post innervation, respectively) and a significant (p=0.002) increase in 2 minutes Step test in the CG (36.59±15.00 to 47.24±10.96 times, pre and post, respectively). However, any significant differences between groups were observed in all variables analysed. Based in the present data we can conclude that the training program was only effective in the promotions of the functional strength of the upper limbs and to maintain the functional autonomy of octogenarian elderly women.

Abstract Objective: Sleepiness caused by poor sleep hygiene may increase the risk of injuries and damages during physical activity. Individual data so far indicate a generally better static postural stability of women regardless of sleeping conditions. The main aim of this study was to assess the impact of sleep deprivation on postural stability according to gender after 24 hours of sleep deprivation. Methods: Participants included 83 students (36 men and 47 women). Postural stability was measured with eyes open and closed eyes before and after sleep deprivation. Data from posturographic platform were used to assess postural stability objectively. Results: The type of test determined the size of observed changes in postural stability. The data suggest that women are better able to cope with the effects of sleep deprivation than men. Conclusion: Postural control system is very important in sport and in physically active people. The results show that men are more sensitive to sleep deprivation than women because they had higher COP path length values in tests. Less postural stability of the body due to sleep deprivation indicates a higher risk of injury during physical activity.
