AbstractIn this work, the O,O’-dithiophosphate derivatives of S-4-methylbenzyl-O,O’-di(phenyl) dithiophosphate (Inhi-Ph) and S-4-methyl benzyl-O,O’-di(4-bromophenyl) dithiophosphate (Inhi-BrPh) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, 1H, 13C and 31P NMR. Meanwhile, the corrosion inhibition of Q235 steel in HCl solution by synthesized inhibitors was evaluated by weight loss and electrochemical measurements. Measurement results indicate that the two inhibitors of Inhi-Ph and Inhi-BrPh are mixed-type inhibitor, the inhibition efficiency increase with inhibitor concentration increasing, decrease with HCl concentration and temperature increasing. The adsorption of Inhi-Ph and Inhi-BrPh on Q235 steel surface obeys Langmuir isotherm, which belongs to chemical adsorption.

The weight loss measurements and potentiodynamic polarization techniques are used to assess the inhibitive and adsorption behaviour of 2-Benzothiazolethiol (BTT) for Q235 steel in hydrochloric acid solution. The inhibition efficiency is found to increase with increase in BTT concentration but decrease with rise in temperature and hydrochloric acid concentration. The results show that BTT acts as a good corrosion inhibitor in hydrochloric acid solution. Adsorption of BTT is found to obey Langmuir isotherm. Polarization curves indicate BTT is a mixed-type inhibitor.

The corrosion inhibition of N,N-diethylammonium O,O-di (3-methylphenyl) dithio-phosphate (NDOMD) for Q235 steel in HCl solution was studied by electrochemical measurements and weight loss measurements. And the effects of temperature, HCl concentration and immersion time were also studied. Polarization curves indicate the NDOMD is a mixed-type inhibitor which anodic plays a leading role. The studies of weight loss measurement show that the inhibition efficiency was up to 94.46% at the NDOMD concentration of 100 mg·L-1 in 1.0 mol.L-1 HCl solution at 30°C. The adsorption of NDOMD on Q235 steel surface obeys the Langmuir isotherm.

Two N-substituted thiosemicarbazone derivatives namely as 2-(4-chlorobenzylidene)-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide and 2-benzylidene-N-phenylhydrazinecarbothioamide (L1 and L2, respectively) have been tested as corrosion inhibitors on mild steel in 1 M HCl. The ligands were synthesized and investigated using potentiodynamic polarization (PD) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).  The obtained results indicated that inhibition efficiency, (IE, %) L1 increased with increasing inhibitor concentrations which behaved as a good corrosion inhibitor compared to L2. The synthesized ligands were successfully characterized by melting point, elemental analysis (C, H, N, and S), Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and NMR (1H and 13C) spectroscopy. The excellent inhibition effectiveness for both compounds on mild steel before and after immersion in 1 M HCl solution containing 40 ppm of L1 and L2 were also verified by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Based on potentiodynamic polarization results, it can be concluded that all investigated compounds are mixed-type inhibitors and obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.

The corrosion inhibition characteristics of Chrysophyllum albidum cotyledon extract was studied as a green and sustainable corrosion inhibitors for pipeline steel in acidic environment attemperatures, 303,313 and 323K using gravimetric technique. The results obtained showed that the inhibition efficiency increased with increase in extract concentration but decrease with increase in temperature. The extract attained an inhibition efficiency of 94 % with 5 g/L at 303 K and 52.2 % with 1 g/L at 333K. Also increase in concentration of the extract lead to increase in activation energydepicting an exothermic process.Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) studies showed the mode of inhibition as adsorption of phytochemicals from the extract on pipeline steel surface. Langmuir adsorption isotherm best fitted into the adsorption process which is spontaneous and physical. Keywords: Chrysophyllum albidum, Pipeline steel, Inhibition, Adsorption.

The corrosion of steel and its alloys is an important problem in industry, especially in acidic environments. Mild steel is one of the important alloys of iron which has many industrial applications because of its excellent mechanical properties, but mild steel is susceptible to corrosion. Corrosion problems need to be a concern and must be handled properly. Hydrochloric acid is widely used for pickling, cleansing, decomposition and metal etching, on the other hand also contributes to corrosion of metal surfaces. Plant extracts investigated the properties, mechanisms of adsorption and efficiency of inhibition as environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors for various steel materials in different acidic media. The efficiency of corrosion inhibition of steel from plant extracts analyzed ranged from 72-98% and generally as a mixed-type inhibitor. Most of the inhibitors are adsorbed on the steel surface through a physisorption mechanism.

The inhibition effect of N,N-diethylammonium O,O'-di(2-phenylethyl)dithiophosphate (EPP, [NH2(Et)2][S2P(OCH2CH2Ph)2]2) against the corrosion of Q235 steel in H2SO4solution was studied by weight loss measurement, potentiodynamic polarization and SEM(scanning electron microscope) techniques. The results show that EPP acts as an excellent corrosion inhibitor in 5% H2SO4by suppressing simultaneously the cathodic and anodic processes via chemical adsorption on Q235 steel surface, which complies with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Polarization curves indicate EPP is a mixed-type inhibitor. The effects of temperature, acid concentration and immersion time were also studied.
