Abstract This paper investigates a part of the party leaders’ webb-tv debate staged by the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet on the 1st of September as a part of the election campaign before the elections to the Riksdag, county councils and municipal assemblies that took place on the 14 September 2014. The debate investigated in this paper deals with gender equality questions. The overall aim of this study is to examine what topics the politicians choose to discuss during the debate and what line of argumentation they use. The method used was ideological discourse analysis coupled with classical rhetoric and eristic. The results of the argumentation analysis are set in a broader framework of gender studies and the Swedish political landscape

The article presents an analysis of Dariusz Oko’s articles about the homosexual minority and people who are gender studies’ scholars or supporters. It shows metaphors and comparisons as tools of creating identity and ideological discourse. Narration is analyzed according to Critical Discourse Analysis tools. I present the re-scalation mechanism and compare Dariusz Oko’s rhetorical tools against envious prejudice.

This paper presents preliminary findings from a wider study into the form that political debate takes in Scottish and English/UK newspapers’ reporting of the 2001 and the 2005 UK Elections. The research project aims to contribute to the discussion regarding the role played by the Scottish press in political deliberation after devolution and compares its contribution to the electoral debate with that of newspapers bought in England. This paper explores the results of a content analysis of articles from daily Scottish and UK newspapers during the four weeks of each election campaign period. This reveals that, despite some differences, the overall picture of the coverage of major election issues is consistent. A selection of the coverage of taxation, the most mentioned reserved issue in the 2001 campaign, is subsequently analysed using critical discourse analysis, and the results suggest more distinction between the two sets of newspapers.

Although there were many studies of Political Discourse had been done in CDA approach, but still few studies concern withrelation of ideology and language in the discourse. This study aims to, 1) find the ideological discourse structureswhich are used to enhance ideology in political speeches delivered by Donald Trump and 2) reveal the ideologies found in the speeches of Donald Trump about National Security. The analysis in this study is based on Fairclough’s(1992 )framework of Critical Discourse Analysis which consists of three levels of analysis; textual, discursive practice and socio-cultural practice. Then, for textual analysis, the writer used one analytical tool that is the theory of Ideological Discourse Structure of the discourse by Van Dijk (2000). The results showed that Donald Trump used language tactfully to achieve his goal on politics. The conclusion obtained is that Donald Trump enhances fascist ideology in his speeches which can be seen through the ideological structure of discourse which is found in his political speech on National Security.

Penelitian ini menginvestigasi representasi feminisme pada lagu dangdut koplo Jawa. Tidak banyak yang mengkaji lagu dangdut koplo Jawa dari perspektif feminisme. Padahal, secara historis, Jawa memiliki agen-agen pergerakan untuk feminisme yang secara faktual seharusnya mempengaruhi kesusastraan dan kesenian Jawa. Ada lima lagu dalam bentuk transkrip sebagai data yang diperoleh dengan mentranskripsi lagu dangdut koplo Jawa dari YouTube. Data lalu dianalisis dengan menggunakan analisis wacana kritis van Dijk. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lagu-lagu dangdut koplo Jawa merepresentasikan kesetaraan perempuan terhadap laki-laki. Peran perempuan diungkapkan tidak lagi sebagai second sex, yang sepenuhnya sebagai ibu rumah tangga, tetapi mereka memiliki kesempatan untuk memilih masa depan secara independen. Sementara itu, feminisme dinyatakan secara langsung dan tidak langsung di dalam lagu dengan menggunakan bahasa kiasan dalam bentuk metafora.This research investigated the representation of feminism in Javanese koplo dangdut song. These songs have got little attention in terms of feminism representation. Meanwhile, historically, Javanese society has factual agents of movement for feminism who should be influencing to the Javanese arts and literature.There arefive transcriptions of the songs as the data which collected by transcripting the songs from YouTube. The collected data were then analysed by applying van Dijk frame work of critical discourse analysis. The results show that most of the songs present gender equality between men and women. The role of women is not only presented as the second sex or as mainly a house wife, but they have opportunities to choose their own future life independently. This condition is suggested by using indirect language or using metaphoric expressions.

<strong>Abstrak: </strong>keberadaan<strong> </strong>berbagai kajian dan literatur tentang gender tidak serta merta merubah pandangan masyarakat tentang keadilan gender. Sebab, kajian gender tetapi memiliki pendukung dan penentang. Ada pendapat bahwa kajian gender berupaya merubah ajaran agama itu sendiri. Dalam kajian gender selama ini, ditemukan banyak pihak yang ikut berkontribusi bagi muncul dan berkembangnya paham yang bias gender dalam masyarakat Muslim, khususnya di Indonesia. Di antara pihak yang bertanggungjawab terhadap kelestarian paham yang diskriminatif terhadap perempuan adalah para pemuka agama yang diwakili oleh para ustaz dan ustazah dimana mereka memainkan peran sebagai penyampai ajaran agama kepada masyarakat Muslim. Artikel ini mengkaji pandangan para ustaz dan ustazah terhadap ketidakadilan gender yang dilihat dari latar belakang suku masing-masing, sehingga akan terungkap perihal adakah kaitan antara latar belakang suku seorang ustaz dan ustazah terhadap persepsi mereka tentang ketidakadilan gender. Didasari oleh studi lapangan, dimana data penelitian diperoleh dari angket dan wawancara, kajian ini menemukan bahwa masih ditemukannya pemahaman bias gender dalam persepsi ustaz dan ustazah di kota Medan. Kajian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan kontribusi bagi kajian gender di Indonesia.  <strong></strong><br /><strong> </strong><br /><strong>Kata Kunci: </strong>ustaz, ustazah, ketidakadilan, gender, suku<br /><strong> </strong><br /><strong>Abstract: The Perception of Islamic Preachers about Gender Bias Reviewed From Ethnic Group Backgrounds.</strong> The existence of various studies and literature on gender does not automatically change the society's opinion about gender equality. As such, supporters and opponents of the idea are readily found. One opinion goes as far as saying that gender studies try to alter the teachings of religion itself. In the gender studies has been found that many contributed to the emergence and development of gender biased ideology in Muslim societies, especially in Indonesia. Among those responsible to discriminatory preservation of women are religious leaders who are represented by <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> where they play the role of religious teachings to the Muslim community. This article examines the opinions of <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> on gender inequality realized from the background of each ethnic group, so it will be revealed about whether there is a link between ethnic background of an <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> to their perception of gender injustice. Based on field studies, where the research data was obtained from questionnaires and interviews, this study found that there is an understanding of gender bias in <em>ustaz</em> and <em>ustazah</em> perceptions in Medan city. Dalam pandangan masyarakat, kultur dan tafsiran agama perempuan masih lekat dengan isu ketidakadilan gender. Khususnya bagi kaum feminisme, pandangan budaya dan keagamaan yang bersifat patriarkis menjadi tantangan untuk kebebasan perempuan dan kesetaraan gender. Dengan menggunakan metode Analisis Wacana Sara Mills, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana konstruksi wacana perempuan dan Islam dalam stand up comedy Komika Santri oleh Sakdiyah Ma’ruf. Peneliti menganalisis stand up comedy Komika Santri yang dibawakan oleh Sakdiyah Ma’ruf melalui tiga tahapan level analisis yaitu level kata, kalimat, dan wacana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perempuan masih diperbincangkan sebagai korban dalam stand up comedy Komika Santri. Sakdiyah Ma’ruf menegaskan wacana bahwa ketidakadilan terhadap perempuan yang digambarkan dengan adanya pelarangan perempuan dalam beraktivitas di luar dan pembatasan hak perempuan disebabkan oleh ideologi agama yang bersifat patriarki. Melalui wacana tersebut, Sakdiyah Ma’ruf mengesampingkan bahwa diskriminasi terhadap perempuan terjadi karena praktik budaya patriarki yang menjadikan agama sebagai justifikasi untuk melakukannya.In the view of the community, culture and the interpretation of religion is still closely related to the issue of gender injustice. Especially for feminists, patriarchal culture and religion have challenged women's liberation and gender equality. Using Sara Mills’s discourse analysis method, this study sought to understand how Muslim woman was constructed in stand up comedy Komika Santri which was delivered by Sakdiyah Ma'ruf. Researchers analyzed the stand up comedy script through three levels of analysis, including words, sentences, and discourse. The research results showed that women were mainly discussed as victims in the stand up comedy Komika Santri. Sakdiyah Ma'ruf confirms discourse that social injustices against women such as the prohibition of women to perform an outdoor activity and the restrictions of women's rights was caused by religious-based patriarchal ideology. Through such a discourse, Sakdiyah Ma'ruf ignored that discrimination against women occurred because of the practice of patriarchal culture who made religion as a justification for doing so.

The legitimacy of the mother tongue subject in a changing political landscape: An analysis of Swedish parliamentary debate in the twenty-tens. This paper highlights and discusses the arguments in favor of, or against Mother Tongue Instruction (MTI) in Swedish parliamentary debate between 2010 and 2020. New to this decade is the entrance of yet another nationalist and populist party with the abolishment of MTI on its political agenda. Building on a critical discourse analytical frame and argumentation analysis, we discuss this party’s rhetoric on MTI – based in an Othering discourse and the construction of MTI as a path to alienation – and the parliamentary counter-voices. The latter mainly concern the role of MTI for development of Swedish and learning in other school subjects, implying that MTI in its own right is subordinated. We argue that this counter-discourse represents a shift in how MTI is legitimized – and in fact plays into assimilationists’ hands – compared to the pluralistic ideology that initially made way for MTI. The importance of scrutinizing political rhetoric is stressed to anticipate political action.

This article reveals the results of research on the contents of history subjects in history textbooks for High School that issued in two different government, those are the New Order Government and Reformation Government, which are considered to contain ideological messages. History textbooks that flowed from the curriculum follows on government policies. That wasn’t surprising if the government changed, they will change the curriculum, and also change the content of text books, in this case includes the history text books. The change indicates that history text books cannot be separated from the interests of the government’s ideology. The aim of this research is wanting to reveal the forms of ideology that is present in the content of history text books. The method that used is critical discourse analysis to know the ideological discourse in history text books from two different government periods. The history text books that are examined based on the 1994 Curriculum and the 2013 Curriculum to indicate two curriculums results from two reigns. Based on the results of this research, it can be compared with the ideology of writing content of history text books in the New Order and Reformation period, there are includes communism and Pancasila, deceit democracy and freedom for democracy, militarism and anti-militarism, neoliberalism and anti-communism, liberalism and anti-liberalism. However, there is still a single narrative of the nation in the New Order that could not be replaced by the Reformation era.

AbstractOn the basis of a genealogical discourse analysis, Weber distinguishes four dispositives of creation. The ‘new’ is created and organised within systematic rationalities of creation. It emerges in (a) an organic cyclical transcendence, (b) a top-down pattern, (c) an entrepreneurial mode that designates man as creator and (d) a collective cyclical dynamic. The dispositives of man as creator and creation as an act are becoming particularly dominant in today’s academic organisations and these dispositives systematically produce institutional programmatics and organisational strategies. In this paper, we analyse how the new emerges in two academic organisations. The starting points of our analyses are two institutional innovations that emerged in Germany in the 2000s: the Excellence Initiative and the gender equality programme. Although they derive from different fields of discourse, both innovations share common features. The Excellence Initiative required universities to relate discourses of excellence and gender equality to each other, and this article investigates how the new emerges in academic organisations to understand whether these innovations produce equality or perpetuate traditional inequalities. Based on Foucault’s dispositive methodology, we use website analyses and interviews with gender equality officers and heads of early-career researchers’ departments. We highlight the discursive connections between gender and excellence for early-career researchers and outline various discursive organisational strategies.
