AbstractSatisfaction with life and disease acceptance by patients with a stomy related to surgical treatment of the rectal cancer depend on multiple factors. Such factors as social support, life conditions and time that elapsed after stomy creation, are very important in this context.was to conduct an early evaluation of life satisfaction and disease acceptance by patients with a stomy related to surgical treatment of the rectal cancer. The study was conducted at Dr. Jan Biziel University Hospital No. 2 in Bydgoszcz and at the prof. F. Łukaszczyk Oncology Centre in Bydgoszcz in 2014. The final analysis included 96 subjects aged 41-87 years (median 59 years). Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) and Acceptance of Illness Scale (AIS) adapted by Zygfryd Juczyński, were used in this study. Most patients had satisfaction with life score of 5 or 6, 23 (24%) and 28 (29.2%) subjects, respectively. Twenty nine (30.2%) study subjects had low satisfaction level, while 16 (16.7%) had high satisfaction level. Average disease acceptance score was 23.2 points. Most patients, 71 (74%) had a moderate disease acceptance score, while the lowest number of subjects, 9 (9.4%), had high disease acceptance score. None of the study subjects who were under the care of a psychologist (14/100%) did not have a low acceptance level.Half of the study subjects had a moderate level of satisfaction with life. Most patients with stomy related to surgical treatment of the rectal cancer in an early postoperative period had moderate level of the disease acceptance. Patients with high level of satisfaction with life, accept the disease better. Few patients who used help by a psychologist, were two- and three-fold more likely to have higher level of satisfaction with life and disease acceptance, respectively.

Background: Rationing of nursing care is a serious issue that has been widely discussed throughout recent years in many countries. The level of satisfaction with life and of satisfaction with job as the nurse-related factors may significantly affect the level of care rationing.Aim: To assess the rationing of nursing care among the Polish nurses and the impact of nurse-related variables, i.e., satisfaction with life and satisfaction with job on the level of nursing care rationing.Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 529 Polish registered nurses employing in two University Hospitals. Three self-report scales in the Polish version were used in this study, namely, Basel Extent of Rationing of Nursing Care-revised version (BERNCA-R), Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), and Satisfaction with Work Scale (SWWS).Results: The respondents indicated that the most frequently rationed activity is studying the situation of individual patients and care plans at the beginning of the shift. The least frequently rationed activity indicated by the respondents was adequate hand hygiene. The patient-to-nurse ratio and the level of satisfaction with job are significant independent factors affecting the level of care rationing. Conclusions: The assessment of the level of satisfaction with life and identification of factors affecting this assessment will enable reducing the occurrence of care rationing.

Abstractwas to analyse the correlation between satisfaction with life in women after mastectomy and motivation to undergo breast reconstruction, compared to women who after breast amputation did not decide to undergo reconstructive treatment.Comparative analysis comprised patients after mastectomy, who decided on breast reconstruction (40) and those who did not undergo reconstructive surgery (40). The study was conducted in the Department of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, Medical University of Lodz and Department of Oncological surgery and Breast Diseases ICZMP, Łódź, between 2013-2015. In the study the question whether higher satisfaction with life prompts decision on breast reconstruction was investigated. The Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) was used, as well as an original questionnaire. The correlations between statistical parameters were evaluated using the chi-square test.We have demonstrated differences between the level of satisfaction with life in patients who decided to undergo breast reconstruction and those who did not choose reconstructive surgery. The discrepancies may reflect differences in the system of values and level of satisfaction with life before reconstructive treatment and also point to potential effect of these factors on the decision to undergo surgery.1. Differences in cognitive structures between ‘Amazons’ determine the decision on reconstructive treatment. 2. Transfer of information between the therapeutic team and women after mastectomy is not satisfactory. 3. Higher level of satisfaction with life has a positive effect on the decision of breast reconstruction.

Most research on the pandemic today assumes that this situation is stressful and requires coping. The aim was to study subjective well-being in the situation of the pandemic and its relationship to coping and anxiety about coronavirus. 409 people filled Satisfaction With Life Scale, Scale of Positive And Negative Experiences, situational version of COPE, checklists assessing anxiety of infection and anxiety of the negative consequences of the pandemic. The comparison groups were three samples of 98, 66 and 293 people who filled Satisfaction With Life Scale and Scale of Positive And Negative Experiences in 2017 and 2019. There was a lower level of positive emotions among respondents in a situation of self-isolation, but the same level of satisfaction with life and negative emotions. Anxiety about the pandemic is related to higher negative emotions only. Emotionally oriented coping strategies and mental disengagement are associated with a higher level of pandemic anxiety. Problem-oriented and active coping strategies are weakly associated with lower anxiety that could be explained by the lack of ready effective methods of resolving this new and uncertain situation. Anxiety associated with current, acute and imminent risk (such as risk of infection), concentration on emotions and acceptance may not be dysfunctional strategies, as they are not associated with deterioration in overall well-being. On the contrary, attempts to cope with anxiety regarding negative consequences of a pandemic by mental disengagement, substance use and denial are associated with a lower level of satisfaction with life.

The awareness of one’s own sexuality and its expression depend on the stage of an individual’s life. Pregnancy is a period of many, also psychosexual, changes. The sexual needs of pregnant women are rarely discussed, and intercourse during this period seems to be a taboo. The aim of this study was to assess the sexual and life satisfaction of pregnant women. The study involved 181 pregnant women and was conducted from July to November 2018. The participants were patients of the pregnancy pathology ward, Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 2 in Szczecin, and participants of antenatal classes. The research project was approved by the Bioethics Committee of the Pomeranian Medical University, Szczecin (KB-0012/74/18). This survey-based study was performed using the self-developed questionnaire and standardized tools: the Sexual Satisfaction Questionnaire, and the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). Statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS Statistics 24.0 statistical package. The tests used were the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, the Shapiro–Wilk test, and Pearson’s test. The statistical significance of the results was assumed as (p < 0.05), the correlations (p < 0.01), and probability (p < 0.001). This study demonstrated a high level of life satisfaction, a medium level of overall sexual satisfaction, and a high level of satisfaction with sex. A higher level of satisfaction with life was associated with higher levels of sexual satisfaction in every dimension. There is a need for comprehensive perinatal care and professional sexual counseling.

Objective: To determine the prevalence and associated demographic and clinical features of borderline intellectual functioning (BIF) among individuals with polysubstance use disorder (pSUD).Methods: We applied a cross-sectional analytical design to data from the Norwegian STAYER study (n = 162), a cohort study of patients with a pSUD from the Stavanger University hospital catchment area. We used Wechsler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence Full Scale IQ (FSIQ) to define BIF (FSIQ = 70–85) and non-BIF (FSIQ = >85) and collected demographic and clinical data using semi-structured interviews and self-reports on the Symptom Checklist 90-Revised (SCL-90-R) and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS).Results: The prevalence of BIF was 18% in the present study. The presence of BIF was associated with higher SCL-90-R GSI scores than in the non-BIF group. There were no significant differences between the BIF and non-BIF groups regarding age, gender, participation in meaningful daily activity, years of work experience, years of education, satisfaction with life, level of care, treatment attempts, age at substance-use onset, years of substance use, history of injecting drugs, or age of onset of injecting drugs. Conclusion: The present study confirmed a higher prevalence of BIF among patients with pSUD than expected from the distribution of IQ scores in a general population. Elevated SCL-90-R GSI scores suggested that BIF is associated with increased psychological distress in patients receiving treatment for pSUD. Further studies on this association, and its effect on treatment procedure and outcomes are strongly warranted.

Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate whether the type of malocclusion affects the perception of quality and satisfaction with people's lives. Material and Methods: Three questionnaires were applied: the first one assessed the social and economic factors and the diagnosis of malocclusion through Angle´s classification, the second was the OHIP-14, and the third was the Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS). Results: This study involved 444 patients aged 18 to 72 years. According to the classification of malocclusion 48.65% was Class I, 22.75% was Class II division 1, 12.16% was Class II division 2 and Class III 16.44%. The malocclusion did not have negative impact on the level of satisfaction with life, but in all dimensions analyzed by OHIP-14, malocclusion had negative impact on quality of life and was statistically significant. The most severe malocclusions such as Class II and Class III represent a more negative impact when compared to Class I malocclusion. Moreover, for the dimensions assessed by the OHIP-14, physical pain and psychological discomfort were those who showed a greater negative impact on quality of life. Conclusions: Malocclusions do not interfere with the judgment of the level of satisfaction with life, but they produce a negative impact on quality of life.

The aim of the study was to analyse the correlation between the level of satisfaction with life, health-related behaviours and physical activity in the group of academic youth studying pedagogical subjects at chosen universities in Cracow. The following variables were used and characterized: levels of satisfaction with life, health-related behaviours and physical activity. The study verifi es the hypothesis that the academic youth characterized by higher levels of satisfaction with life will be show a wider scale of pro-health behaviours and higher levels of physical activity. The study was conducted in a random group of 486 participants – 416 women (85.60%) and 70 men (14.40%) in the age 22–28 years (average: 23 years). The group consisted of undergraduates (3rd year of bachelor studies) at pedagogical studies from three universities in Cracow: Pedagogical University of Cracow (66.26%), the Jagiellonian University (25.31%) and Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski Krakow University (8.43% ). The standardised Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) by Diener et al. in the Polish adaptation by Z. Juczyński (2009) was used for the purpose of measuring the satisfaction with life. The Inventory of Health-Related Behaviours (IHRB) by Juczyński (2009) was used for the assessment of 4 categories of health-related behaviours: proper nutrition habits (PNH), prophylaxis (P), pro-health practices (PHP) and positive attitude (PA). The intensity of pro-health behaviours was assessed with the use of the proper sten scores (Juczyński 2009). The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) – Short Form was used to assess the levels of physical activity. The above presented authors’ own research show that the majority of Cracow students of pedagogical subjects was characterized by an average satisfaction with life, and low levels of pro-health behaviours, as well as an adequate level of physical activity. Statistically signifi cant diversity in some pro-health behaviours and physical activities were discovered. They were found to be related to such factors as sex, intensity of certain pro-health behaviours, and satisfaction with life among academic youth.
