Summary One of the objectives of prosthetic dentistry is to restore teeth in harmony with temporo-mandibular joints. Articulator is a device that allows an operator to fabricate a restoration that will be physiologically and psychologically successful. But how much do we really know about the origin of articulators? First articulator designs attempted to duplicate anatomic relationships and functional movements. More sophisticated articulators evolved as more new knowledge about anatomy, mandibular movements and mechanical principles were obtained. The aim of this article was to describe the origin, history and evolution of articulators through the years. For this article, an electronic search was performed across three databases (Science Direct, PubMed and Google Scholar) for relevant citations. Keywords such as articulators, history, early articulators were used alone and in combination for the search. The option of “related articles” was also utilized. Finally, search was performed on the review articles and the most relevant papers were selected.

Abstract Articulators are instruments that aimed to reproduce the range of jaw movements. The first instrument designs were attempts to duplicate anatomic relations or reproduce functional movements of the anatomy. They were able to preserve centric position only. More sophisticated articulating instruments evolved as more was learned about the anatomy, mandibular movements, and mechanical principles. Over time, interest for articulators progressed. Articulators became adjustable, and they attempted to reproduce jaw movements of each patient by reproducing the anatomy of temporomandibular joints (TMJ’s) and related structures. Part I of the article has discussed evolution of articulators beginning from the 18th century till 1940. A history of articulators from 1940 till today is discussed in the present article.

Objective to identify the predictive variables or the massive transfusion triggers in severely traumatized patients through the existing scales. Method a review of the literature was carried out using the Scoping Review method across the electronic databases CINAHL, MEDLINE, LILACS, the Cochrane and IBECS libraries, and the Google Scholar search tool. Results in total, 578 articles were identified in the search and the 36 articles published in the last ten years were included, of which 29 were original articles and 7 review articles. From the analysis, scales for massive transfusion and their predictive triggers were examined. Conclusion the absence of universal criteria regarding the massive transfusion triggers in traumatized patients has led to the development of different scales, and the studies on their validation are considered relevant for the studies about when to initiate this strategy.

Abstract Background Cannabis is one of humanity’s oldest crops with several uses, from food to clothing and medicine. It remains one of the most controversial crops whose production, possession, and usage are regulated differently across jurisdictions. Academic research and advocacy have resulted in the redefinition of the legal status of cannabis in several countries. Ghana recently reviewed its laws on cannabis, allowing for the cultivation of industrial hemp. The legislation paves the way for Ghana to benefit from industrial hemp and include it in the agricultural cash crop list. This paper looks at the economic prospects of industrial hemp in the wake of the new law. Methods A systematic electronic research was conducted to identify journal articles, reports, news, blogs, and other relevant materials on cannabis, marijuana, and industrial hemp. The electronic search was done primarily on Google, Google Scholar, Bing, and “Baidu Xueshi” to identify cannabis-related publications. The search was expanded beyond Ghana to find other perspectives on cannabis. The search began in January 2020 on Google using search terms like “cannabis in Ghana” and “which countries have legal cannabis.” Materials on history, financial prospects, industrial uses, and legislations on cannabis and industrial hemp were reviewed. Results Existing research on cannabis in Ghana has focused on the psychotic effects of cannabis other than its industrial aspects, which has potentials for the economy. Industrial hemp has CBD with no psychotic effects and is very useful in making medicine, paper, and textiles. Ghana has both the land and workforce to produce hemp to feed local industries and the international market. Conclusion The new legislation can put Ghana in a position to benefit from the current cannabis industry. Therefore, policymakers should implement a registration regime that would favor local investors and farmers to reduce illegal production. The regulatory framework should establish a well-equipped agency that will supervise production and research into hemp development.

Opiophobia is the physicians’ irrational fear of prescribing opioids for patients with severe pain. It’s one of the major reasons for many patients to not receive adequate analgesia (oligoanalgesia). It’s an old phenomenon that still persists in both developed and developing countries with diff erent rates. This is an unsystematic literature review of studies that have been written about opiophobia since 1960 using Google Scholar, PubMed and EBSCO to search for the following terms: opiophobia, oligoanalgesia and necrophobia. Studies included were review articles and surveys studies. We found that the three main reasons for opiophobia are concern over addiction, concern over serious side eff ects (mainly respiratory depression) and concern over legal consequences. These consequences, such as being sued, result from serious side eff ects masking or delaying the diagnosis. Lack of knowledge about pain management was another factor among young physicians and interns. As a result, many patients are not adequately treated for severe pain. Physicians prescribe lesser dosages than required and nurses administer even lesser dosages than the physicians prescribed. To tackle such problems, it’s important to know the causes. Education, clarifi cation of the myths and increasingthe physicians’ and nurses’ awareness about pain management is a critically important step especially for new physicians and interns.

In order to understand the value to society of a national library, it is essential to go beyond counting usage figures and understand impacts; 'the difference that the library makes'. The paper suggests that, for the National Library of Scotland (NLS), a key impact is the generation of new knowledge. A viable proxy for measuring this impact is establishing the number of publications produced in which the authors cite the use of NLS collections or services. The paper proposes a simple methodology for estimating the number of such research outputs through a bibliometric analysis of Google Scholar and other research resources.
