In order to understand the value to society of a national library, it is essential to go beyond counting usage figures and understand impacts; 'the difference that the library makes'. The paper suggests that, for the National Library of Scotland (NLS), a key impact is the generation of new knowledge. A viable proxy for measuring this impact is establishing the number of publications produced in which the authors cite the use of NLS collections or services. The paper proposes a simple methodology for estimating the number of such research outputs through a bibliometric analysis of Google Scholar and other research resources.

Investment determines the sustainability and prosperity of an economy. The paper seeks to (1) give an overview of the roles of companies on the stability of the financial system, based on existing theoretical and empirical work; and (2) to highlight the reasons which expose them to the non-application of their duties against the State. For this purpose, a bibliometric analysis using the Direct Science database was employed. The results of the analysis allowed us to study the search trend by analyzing the distribution of publications, authors, types of publications and fields of research and also showed that the themes of the study are of great scientific interest because of the surge in the number of publications on the role of companies over the last ten years averaging 76.3 per year while 1,690 were on the impact of company behaviour on the stability of the financial system.

Objectives: A bibliometric approach using network analysis was applied to identify the development and research trends for moxibustion. This study also examined the network hub of moxibustion research by investigating the collaborative work of organizations and authors. Methods: Academic articles on moxibustion research published from 2000 to 2019 were retrieved from the Web of Science database. Extracted records were analyzed according to publication year, research area, journal title, country, organization, and authors. The VOSviewer program was utilized to visualize the trends in moxibustion research and to explore the influential organizations and authors. Results: Analyses of 1146 original and review articles written in English demonstrated that the number of publications related to moxibustion research has increased consistently over the last 20 years. China issued the most articles in this field, and the most represented research area was integrative complementary medicine. A network analysis based on the co-occurrence and publication year of keywords identified the relevant characteristics and trends of moxibustion research. By assessing the total link strength of organizations and authors, influential organizations and authors who have contributed to moxibustion research were identified. Conclusions: The current study examined research on moxibustion using bibliometric analysis and identified a time-based development of moxibustion research and a global network hub of moxibustion research.

Self assessment should include asking ourselves how we might allocate our investments to enhance the impact of our publication portfolio. I develop an easily implemented scientific investment portfolio analysis tool based on citations. Using Google Scholar data, I provide examples at individual and institutional levels for two cases in the biological sciences. Visualizing these data in three dimensions reveals striking degrees of structure and variation in how investments have been made and in how they have performed among subdisciplines or scientific market sectors. Legacy and time-corrected performance also provide contrasting views. This approach provides a quantitative way to assess market sectors in relation to each other in a way that should be broadly useful in planning future scientific investments for individuals, departments, or institutions.

Purpose International Journal of Lean Six Sigma (IJLSS) has completed a decade. To celebrate the same, this study aims to review the articles published in IJLSS from its inception to the year 2020. The journal’s trends and professional impact over the years are investigated and potential future research directions are proposed. Design/methodology/approach A bibliometric analysis comprising of citation, co-citation and keyword co-occurrence methods is used on all the articles published in IJLSS till the year 2020. Content analysis is further done to analyse the type of research, type of industry studied and the articles’ target audience. Findings The journal has improved its reputation, productivity and impact over the years. Currently, studies published in IJLSS have been cited more than 5,000 times, with the most prominent themes being Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and Lean in manufacturing and services. Researchers from India, the USA and the UK have contributed a significant number of publications. Most of the work published is case-based. There is a need for more empirical or survey-based research having high generalizability. Future studies should also focus on integrating LSS with emerging topics such as sustainability, Industry 4.0 and the like. Research limitations/implications The study provides evidence of the impact of IJLSS and highlights the trend in the domain of LSS. It can be of use for the editorial board members to identify potential areas to focus on in the future. Researchers can use it to further their research by working on the research gaps identified. Originality/value This paper is the first to trace the progress of IJLSS from its inception till the year 2020.

Purpose. The aim of the work is to indicate the impact of publications from the “Folia Turistica” journal on the development of knowledge on marketing in tourism in Poland. Method. The article analyses citability (as of 20 Oct. 2018) of articles published in the journal, addressing marketing issues. However, the article cannot be treated as a typical bibliometric study, because the most important conclusions were derived by deduction. Findings. From among the very numerous articles published in the “Folia Turistica” issues, those devoted to the problem of marketing in tourism, or at least aspects related to it, are not very numerous. The contribution of this journal to the development of knowledge on marketing in tourism does not result from a large number of publications, but mainly from the publication of several items whose frequency of quoting makes them considered as very important publications (from those published in Poland) in the development of understanding the essence marketing in tourism. Research and conclusions limitations. In the bibliometric research, the Google Scholar database was used, which although indexes the largest number of Polish scientific journals, is still very incomplete. Practical implications. The text is an analysis of scientific publications and contains only a few guidelines for practitioners. Such a suggestion may be an indication of particularly scientifically influential texts on marketing in tourism, which may be of interest to economic practitioners. Originality. So far, this type of analysis has not been conducted in Poland, not only in the case of “Folia Turistica”, but also for other scientific journals related to research in the tourism industry. Type of work. The article is of review nature.

This paper compares the evidence-based outcomes between cochlear implants and hearing aids during the past several decades. Despite many similarities, there are also some important differences that define the progress for the two disciplines. Perhaps the most significant distinction exists in terms of the difference between the Food and Drug Administration's treatment of hearing aids as Class I medical devices, while cochlear implants are defined as Class III devices. Another point of divergence has been the number of publications in archival, peer-reviewed journals; implant papers have been steadily increasing during the past decade, while hearing aid papers have declined during the same period. The impact of these differences on the past, present, and future of hearing aid and cochlear implant research, technology, and clinical practice is discussed.

The main goal of the research is to identify the currently forming research problems in the area of halal tourism and hospitality which were reflected in the publications of international and Russian authors. The research design is based on the application of methods and tools of bibliometric analysis (Bibliometrix R-package and the “statistical reports”), word cloud formation method. As a result, sources with the largest number of publications were identified, leading research centres with the largest number of publications and citations of publications on this topic were determined as well as the evolutionary stages of priority research areas were pointed out. The limitations of the study are a limited number of publications on halal tourism represented in the Russian problem field. To this end, it is not possible to ensure the comparability of samples from Russian and foreign publications. Besides, due to the difference in the organization of international and Russian citation bases, there is a necessity to use different bibliometric analysis tools, which is also a limitation of the study. The research results provide an opportunity to compare the stages of development of halal tourism research in Russian and international academic literature to determine the place of the Russian studies within the global context.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to describe the recent developments implemented in the ILL Service in the Biblioteca Nacional de España, aimed at a customer‐focused approach.Design/methodology/approachThe paper is based on those facts and activity figures reported between 2006 and the first semester of 2009 within the ILL Service.FindingsAs a result of the implementation of a series of quality standards (promotion of off‐site options, automation of workflows, review of procedures), a customer‐focused approach has been built in the ILL Service. Performance evaluation is a crucial issue in order to provide a better service and to benchmark with similar units in national libraries. The implementation of new electronic services and the great digitisation projects provide a larger visibility of national collections as well as an increase in ILL demand. The ILL Service continues to play a key role in cooperation and support for research, mainly in Hispanic studies.Originality/valueThe paper highlights the major quality measures introduced in the last few years in order to meet new customer needs in the ILL Service offered by the National Library of Spain. It also incorporates the impact of the main digitisation projects on the ILL Service.

Findings of the bibliometric analysis of national library and information journals are highlighted. The range of publications for comparative analysis is reviewed. The key bibliometric indicators for journals assessment are defined; the choice of the data source, namely RSCI database is substantiated. Among the indicators selected for analysis are: number of publications and citations, two-year impact factor, 5-year impact factor, five-year self-citation coefficient, 5-year Herfindahl index - by citation journals and by author’s institutions. On the basis of average factors, the citation dynamics for 2013 - 2015 is determined. Other factors of journals’ authority are also discussed: Inclusion into the HAC (Highest Attestation Commission), world abstract databases and Web of Science and Scopus citation systems.
