In spite of over half a century of research, sepsis still constitutes a major problem in health care delivery. Although advances in research have significantly increased our knowledge of the pathogenesis of sepsis and resulted in better prognosis and improved survival outcome, sepsis still remains a major challenge in modern medicine with an increase in occurrence predicted and a huge socioeconomic burden. It is generally accepted that sepsis is due to an initial hyperinflammatory response. However, numerous efforts aimed at targeting the proinflammatory cytokine network have been largely unsuccessful and the search for novel potential therapeutic targets continues. Recent studies provide compelling evidence that dysregulated anti-inflammatory responses may also contribute to sepsis mortality. Our previous studies on the role of regulatory T cells and phosphoinositide 3-kinases in sepsis highlight immunological approaches that could be explored for sepsis therapy. In this article, we review the current and emerging concepts in sepsis, highlight novel potential therapeutic targets and immunological approaches for sepsis treatment and propose a biphasic treatment approach for management of the condition.

Allergic conjunctivitis is one of the most common eye disorders that affect people of all age groups and can be correlated to Vatajaabhishyanda (Allerghic Conjunctivitis) in Ayurvedic medicine based on their signs and symp- toms. Abhishyanda (Conjunctivitis) is the root cause for most of the eye disorders and must be treated early with effective interventions or it might lead to severe complications and would be very perplexing to save the eyesight. If Abhishyanda (Conjunctivitis) takes a chronic course, it may lead to dreadful complications making the disease unmanageable. In Modern medicine, this is managed with the administration of eye drops and anti-Allergic medi- cines associated that are associated with some adverse effects. Ayurvedic management of Allergic conjunctivitis has shown some effective results in overcoming the ailment with no such effects and non-recurrence. Hence here an effort has been made to elucidate about Vatajaabhishyanda and its management that is outlined in Ayurvedic classics. Keywords: Vatajaabhishyanda, Allergic conjunctivitis, Ayurveda, Shalakya Tantra

Urban, also known as “Gotu Kola.” The plant is native to the Southeast Asia and has been used traditionally as brain tonic in ayurvedic medicine. The neuroprotective effect ofC. asiaticahas been searched using the key words “Centella, Centella asiatica, gotu kola, Asiatic pennywort, neuroprotection, and memory” through the electronic databases including Sciencedirect, Web of Science, Scopus, Pubmed, and Google Scholar. According to the literature survey,C. asiatica(gotu kola) has been reported to have a comprehensive neuroprotection by different modes of action such as enzyme inhibition, prevention of amyloid plaque formation in Alzheimer’s disease, dopamine neurotoxicity in Parkinson’s disease, and decreasing oxidative stress. Therefore,C. asiaticacould be suggested to be a desired phytopharmaceutical with neuroprotective effect emerged from traditional medicine.

Herbs are an effective source of Ayurvedic medicine and other traditional medicines as well as modern medicine. Faced with the challenges of modern medicine, the world is shifting toward Ayurvedic theories of health management. In the treatment of the disease, the use of drugs is not limited. This increases the demand for raw materials exponentially. However, production growth is still linear. Rapid depletion of resources creates major problems. To fill the deficit, advances in adulteration and substitution are becoming more prevalent. This adulteration and substitution are a burning problem in an industry that threatens the integrity of Ayurvedic system of medicine. Imprecise knowledge, misidentification, deforestation, and personal gain have led to adulteration. Therefore, an understanding of all ways of adulteration and substitutions is needed to amend this illegal act and maximize consumer safety. This article focuses on adulteration, its types and various methods of adulteration, as well as the concept of substitution, reasoning, and its types. Attempts have also been made to differentiate these two related terms.

Pain makes us conscious for the presence of the injurious agent and that is why we seek removal of the injurious agent by appropriate measures. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is corelated with aamvata in Ayurved. Rheumatoid arthritis is basically an autoimmune chronic inflammatory disorder that mainly affects the symmetrical metacarpophalangeal joint and more than two to three proximal interphalangeal small joints of the body. This disease is commonly found in females as compared to males. The female male ratio is 3:1. Prevalence of Rheumatoid arthritis increases with age, with 5% of women and 2% of men over 55 years being affected. Rheumatoid arthritis is rare in men under the age of 45, where there is 6:1 female surplus. It’s a very painful disease which usually cause tender, swelling and inflammation in joints. Joint stiffness worse in the morning and remain for more than one hour. Chronic inflammation, granuloma formation and joint destruction is commonly seen. Fatigue, fever, weight loss, irritation and depression are also the most common non-articular symptoms. A satisfactory treatment is available in Ayurvedic medicine for this disorder. Various Ayurvedic drugs have been proved useful for these manifestations. This case report is a classic case of Rheumatoid arthritis, which was treated for six months under the name of aamvata with Ayurvedic drugs. The patient was on modern medicine and we efficaciously exchange him from conventional modern medicine to ayurvedic medicine.
