The investigation and design of new polymeric materials with an astonishing combination of properties are nowadays of great importance to facilitate the manufacturing process of high-quality products intended to be utilized in different applications and technical fields. For this intent, novel high-performance blend composites composed of the cyanate ester/benzoxazine resin blend reinforced by different proportions of silane-surface modified Kevlar and glass fibers were successfully fabricated by a compression molding technique and characterized by different experimental tests. The mechanical test results revealed that the bending and impact strength properties were considerably improved when increasing the amount of the hybrid fibers. The studied materials also presented excellent thermal stabilities as compared to the unfilled blend’s properties. With respect to the properties of the reinforcing systems, these improvements seen in either the mechanical or thermal properties could be due to the good dispersion as well as excellent adhesion of the reinforcing fibers inside the resin matrix, which were further evidenced by the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy results. Consequently, the improved mechanical and thermal properties promote the use of the fabricated hybrid composites in domestic and industrial applications requiring functional materials with advanced properties for aerospace and military applications.

In this work the effect of stacking sequence of Carbon (C)/Glass (G) fibers and halloysites addition (1, 3 and 5 wt.%) on the mechanical and thermal properties of the hybrid composites were explored. The composite laminates were prepared by using Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion Technique (VARIT). The outcomes disclosed that the hybrid composites having sequence of C2G3C2 (2-Carbon/3-Glass/2-Carbon layers) showed better overall properties. Moreover, the addition of halloysites enhanced the mechanical and thermal properties of the C2G3C2 hybrid composites. In particular, the hybrid composites added with 3 wt.% of halloysites showed higher overall properties among the other hybrid composites investigated. Finally, the morphological analysis was performed on the fractured surface of mechanical tested composites to study the failure mechanisms occurred. Based on the obtained results it can be concluded that the C2G3C2 hybrid composites added with 3 wt.% of halloysite could be a suitable alternative light weight material for automobile, aerospace and building structures.

The main objective of this work was to investigate the effect of hybridization on the mechanical and thermal properties of intralaminar natural fiber-reinforced hybrid composites based on sisal. Ramie, sisal and curauá fibers were selected as natural fiber reinforcements for the epoxy matrix based composites, which were produced by the hand lay-up technique. Tensile, flexural and impact tests were carried out according to American society for testing and materials (ASTM) standards to characterize the hybrid composites, while differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) were used to evaluate the thermal properties. It was found that the mechanical properties are improved by hybridization of sisal based composites. The thermal analysis showed that the hybridization did not significantly affect the thermal stability of the composites. A scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the fracture surface of the tested specimens. The SEM images showed a brittle fracture of the matrix and fiber breakage near the matrix.

The aim of the current investigation is an analysis of the mechanical and thermal properties of epoxy/ nano-silica/ Kevlar fiber hybrid composites. The ultrasonic vibration-assisted hand layup process was used for the preparation of composite with different weight percentages (1%, 2%, 3%, and 4%) of Nano SiO2 particles and 2 layers of the Kevlar fiber. For the evolution of mechanical properties tensile tests, hardness tests, impact tests, and flexural tests were done. For evaluation of morphological analysis Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy, X-RD, and FT-IR tests were performed. A heat deflection temperature test was performed for the evaluation of the thermal characteristic of the hybrid composite. The results show the improvement of mechanical and thermal properties of the hybrid composite with increasing wt.% of nano SiO2 particles in the hybrid composites. As per the observation of experimental results, the Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy,Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, and X-ray diffraction test also show the enhancement of surface morphology and chemical structure of hybrid composites. The heat diffraction test shows the improvement of thermal resistance and heat absorption capability. As per the observation of experimental results, the tensile strength, hardness, and impact strength increased up to 98%, 16%, and 42% respectively. The flexural test shows the improvement of flexural modulus and stresses 46% and 35% respectively. The heat deflection temperature of hybrid composite improves up to 30%.

Moisture absorption of natural fiber-based composites is one of the major problems in outdoor applications. The present study deals with the effect of moisture absorption on mechanical and thermal properties of unmodified/modified Date Palm Leaf (DPL) with glass fiber-based hybrid composites. Natural fibers were modified with alkaline treatment to improve fiber and matrix bonding. Conventional hand lay-up technique is used to fabricate the composites with varying different wt.% of treated and untreated short DPL with constant wt.% of glass fiber and prepared with random oriented manner. The combine effect of hydrophilic and hydrophobic nature find out as the study based upon the natural with synthetic fiber hybrid composites. Mechanical behaviour of the epoxy-based hybrid composites were characterized by using tensile, flexural and hardness test. The results revealed that significant improvement in mechanical properties by the addition of different weight percentage of modified DPL. Different thermal properties of the composites were described by using Thermo Gravimetric Analyzer (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetric (DSC). Morphological investigation was carried out to by using scanning electron microscope. All the properties of untreated natural fiber reinforced composites were mostly affected by the influence of water absorption as compared with chemically treated based composites.

In this work, a comparative analysis of the mechanical and thermal properties of polyester and epoxy single and hybrid natural fibre-reinforced composites was performed. Pure jute, jute + curauá and jute + sisal composites with two distinct thermoset polymer resins (an epoxy and a polyester) were produced. Tensile, flexural and impact tests were carried out, in accordance to ASTM standards, to investigate and compare the mechanical properties of the composites as a function of matrix and hybridization. In addition, a thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was used to complete the comparative analysis of the thermal properties. Finally, a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to examine the fracture surface of the tested specimens. It was found that the hybridization process improved the mechanical properties of the non-hybrid jute fibre based composites for both matrices used. The resin used as matrix plays an important role on the mechanical properties of the composites. The epoxy matrix based composites presented higher tensile strength, while the polyester based composites presented higher tensile and flexural stiffness as well as higher impact energy, when compared to the epoxy-based composite. TGA analysis showed that the thermal stability of epoxy-based composites was higher compared to the polyester-based composites.
