Evolving digital technologies are infiltrating schools wave after wave. The changes taking place are viewed as the schools’ digital renewal process (SDRP). The SDRP is complex (multidimensional). It includes changes in the educational environment (physical and virtual), the educational process, and the way the school operates. The SDRP goes uneven, with individual schools at different stages. One-time observation of the SDRP allows you to fix its current state (statics). The longitudinal observations allows you to see changes in the schools’ digital renewal (kinematics). The connection of the observed changes with the impact on the general education system makes it possible to discuss the development of digital renewal under the influence of individual control actions (dynamics). The stages of penetration of digital technologies into the work of the school: computerization, early and mature informatization, digital transformation (transition to the “Smart School”) can be considered as the stages of maturity of the SDRP. The article discusses a framework for describing the processes of digital renewal of schools in an evolving digital environment and an assessment of the SDRP’s maturity.

Rapid technological development and digital transformation in all areas of life have resulted in a dramatic change in the nature of thinking and requirements to skills. In the information economy, it is not money or natural resources, or territory but people with their critical thinking and high-quality skills, who have become a valuable asset. In this regard, the educational sector advances to the forefront. However, education hardly complies with the requirements of the new economy and retains its basic features of the industrial era. The curricula and educational processes at universities fail to prepare young people for life in our complicated world, or develop critical thinking; they discourage creativity and ability to cooperate. Curricula tend to focus on the development of professional skills and neglect the development of social and cognitive skills. The study sets out to investigate the usefulness of higher social and cognitive skills in the educational process at the Faculty of Humanities in Perm National Research Polytechnic University and offers recommendations on the development of these skills in the educational process.

The following issues («prospects of digital transformation in education», «types of models of digital competencies», «information competence as an existential skill and long-term metaability», «mapping as a process of translation of meaning-making», «specific characteristics of cards», «technology of scribing in education») which rise in modern research and affect the improvement of the educational process in the digital educational environment of the university are subject to discussion. Attention is drawn to the description of the pedagogical experience of using mapping and scribing for the development of information competence of university students. The examples of maps created by students and undergraduates of the direction of training «Pedagogical education» and contributing to the formation of their deep and error-free digital educational footprint are given. The influence of mapping and scribing on increasing motivation to learn and the emergence of new student startups in the field of education is investigated. The leading research methods are: analysis of digital competence models for the relevance of the process of developing information competence of university students; analysis and selection of modern technologies in the period of digital transformation in education; generalization of conceptual provisions on information competence and its role for human development; generalization of the pedagogical experience of using mapping and scribing for the development of information competence of university students. Promising areas of research are: the formation of a collection of maps for use in professional activities, for their cognitive analysis; development of the direction of video scribing for distance and additional education of students; identification of the advantages and disadvantages of mapping and scribing and their effectiveness in the development of students' information competence. The research materials are of practical value for students, undergraduates, university teachers and teachers of other educational institutions who are looking for new technologies in organizing the learning process.

The paper deals with analysis, generalisation and systematisation of the European experience in the field of digital transformation of education. Nowadays, when a digital society is being built, digital transformation is becoming the basis for the world economic development. This leads to a rapid change in the professions being in demand in the employment market and, consequently, the professional requirements for the qualification framework, competences in particular. Thus, educational activities require updating the content and methods of teaching, finding innovative forms of learning, expanding the access to educational resources, implementing learning opportunities without restrictions on the bases of space and time, introducing new approaches to the organisation of educational services in general. The purpose of this study is to analyse and systematise the European experience in the field of the digital transformation of education, outlining some ways to use it for transforming the education in Ukraine. The main research methods used are as follows: a systematic analysis of regulatory, scientific, and methodological sources on the digital transformation of education in European countries, the study of the methodological tools to support teachers in the development of a digital society. For the digital transformation of education, it is necessary to take a number of important steps which include: the development of normative initiatives by the state to ensure the regulatory framework enabling the transformation of education; the modernisation of educational systems, the updating of the content of school and university education; training and retraining of teachers, taking into consideration the increasing proficiency level of their digital skills and competences. The paper presents in detail how these steps are implemented in the EU. Based on the analysed sources, we can come to these conclusions: in Europe, the conditions facilitating an increase in pedagogues’ proficiency in terms of digital competences have been created; the tools aimed at supporting their activities have been developed, which contributes to the digital transformation of education in general. Ukraine has also recognised the digital transformation as a priority policy for the development of the digital economy and the emergence of a digital society as a whole. To ensure a quality educational process, the modern education system of Ukraine needs changes. The digitalisation of all levels of education, and, in the future, their digital transformation appear to be important steps in this respect.

This study aims to find out the role of educational platforms and digital transformation in raising awareness of remote education in light of the spread of the corona epidemic among high school students, to support decision-making in the education sector and to help develop and implement an effective educational response to the new Coronavirus pandemic, which has disrupted various educational institutions in the world, and based on the educational crisis created by the pandemic. Despite the seriousness of the Coronavirus and its serious implications for education for all countries, many countries affected by this pandemic did not find the ideal and flexible alternative to the transition from traditional education to distance education because their educational system was not able to move easily to distance education and because of the lack of the necessary resources and challenges. The idea of this study is to examine the role of educational platforms that face the integration of education remotely within the educational process in a crisis (the Coronavirus pandemic) and the main challenges and difficulties of using in general. The reality of remote education is still under construction. The study also recommended that it be necessary to identify the difficulties and challenges of remote education for educational institutions to integrate distance education into their plans according to a clear and predetermined vision.

The information environment of the Internet, turns into the powerful educational tool. This article explores the issues of digital transformation of an educational space. These are the results of the monitoring study on the problems of the teacher's readiness to effectively use digital tools for the organization of the educational process: electronic forms of textbooks, educational applications, online services and educational platforms. The advantages and disadvantages of digital transformation are further explored. The binary learning effect of digital educational tools is acknowledged, as the Educational nature is not only the content of the resource, but also the process of working with it, which contributes to the development of not only the student, but also the professional skills of the teacher. The aim of the study is to identify the legal and organizational barriers to digitalization and digital transformation of education in the Russian Federation and to develop proposals for improving the startup planning and legal regulation in this area. The study presents the authors’ method of identifying the barriers. The main feature of this methodology (based on the comparative-law method and structural and functional analysis) is its focus on identifying the legal and organizational barriers to digitalization not only of the educational process itself, but also of the life cycle of the educational organization as a whole. The key legal and organizational barriers to digitalization for education were identifi ed and systematized. It was concluded that there remains a signifi cant number of barriers not only to digitalization, but also to primary informatization in the fi eld. The authors substantiate proposals for improvement of strategic planning and legal regulation, aimed at eliminating the identifi ed barriers and forming of legal conditions for digitalization and, in the long term, the digital transformation of Russian education.
