Linda Eisenmann

In this article, Linda Eisenmann examines the role and impact of Barbara Solomon's now classic text in women's educational history, In the Company of Educated Women: A History of Women and Higher Education in America. Eisenmann analyzes how Solomon's book influenced, defined, and in some ways limited the field of women's educational history. She shows how current historical research — such as the study of normal schools and academies — grew out of Solomon's work. She points out where the book is innovative and indispensable and where it disappoints us as teachers and scholars in the 1990s. Eisenmann criticizes Solomon for placing too much emphasis on women's access to higher education, thereby ignoring the importance of wider historical and educational influences such as economics, women's occupational choices, and the treatment of women in society at large. Finally, Eisenmann examines the state of subsequent research in women's higher educational history. She urges researchers to investigate beyond the areas defined by Solomon's work and to assess the impact of these neglected subjects on women's experiences in education.

The background in this study is divorce outside the Religious Courts conducted by couples who have a history of higher education (bachelor). In-Law Number 1 of 1974 Article 39 and Compilation of Islamic Law Article 115 which states that "Divorce can only be carried out before a Religious Court hearing after the Religious Court has tried and failed to reconcile the two parties". The existence of these laws and regulations applies to all Indonesian citizens who are Muslim. Although it has been explicitly explained in the legislation regarding the necessity of divorce before a court hearing, in reality, the law is still ignored. Just like what happened in Renah Sungai Ipuh Village that the people in this village are still conducting divorce outside the court, from the data obtained by the author from 2013-2017 there were 24 couples who had divorced outside the Religious Court and 7 pairs of the perpetrators of the divorce were couples who have a high educational history (bachelor). The method used in this research is to use qualitative methods, namely analyzing the data that has been obtained. The conclusion of this research is first, that the causes of divorce outside the Religious Courts are 1. because they follow customs, 2. because they want to maintain their good name, 3. because of coercion from parents and 4. because the litigation process is too long and difficult. Second, the response of BP4 to the practice of divorce outside the Religious Courts, BP4 felt very concerned about the condition of the community who did not want to register their divorce in the Religious Courts, this BP4 has carried out its duties and functions to the maximum extent but has not been successful.

The most famous scientists of the 19th and 20th centuries are covered. Their names and fates are closely associated with Karazinsky. The information about the revival and activity of the faculty from 1993 up to the present time is given. Kharkiv National University named after VN Karazin was founded on November 17, 1804, and solemnly opened 29 (17 in the old style) in January 1805. Since its inception, the Karazin University is an integral part of the cultural, scientific and educational history of Ukraine, occupying leading positions among higher education institutions throughout its existence. At the time of the University's opening, a medical faculty was established in its staff. Therefore, the history of the medical faculty begins on January 29, 1805, making it the oldest center of higher medical education in Ukraine. The glorious history of the Faculty of Medicine of Karazin University has created numerous pages in the history of medicine. The first medical students appeared in 1809-1810. Thus, in the first 30 years of the existence of the medical faculty, about 300 doctors were released. But before that, the professors of the faculty did not spend time, but taught medical sciences to students from the Kharkov college, whose leaders always supported the university and, in particular, medical education. So, in the 18th century, the Kharkiv Collegium directed to send the best students to medical schools. One of these "best" students was Joseph Mukhin, who became an outstanding physician and founder of domestic traumatology. Another pupil of the Kharkiv Collegium, who succeeded in the field of medicine, was Hryhoriy Bazylevych, who became the first domestic clinical professor.

This article describes the creation of the Bedoun Archive at the Australian Data Archive, managed by the Australian National University. The Bedoun are a Bedouin minority comprising stateless members of the main tribes of Kuwait. They have been subjected to “Othering” in scholarly literature, indicative of both Orientalism and neo-Orientalism, approaches that have contributed to their oppression by the state and omission from the official histories of Kuwait and the academic literature. The theory and methodology behind the creation of the Bedoun Archive, based on the principles of humanistic sociology and collaborative research with Indigenous Peoples, are discussed. The archive provides safe storage for data analysed in the project, which can be used by others in future. This article contributes to improving understanding of the impact of Orientalism and neo-Orientalism on perceptions of the people and history of the Middle East in general, and the Arabian Gulf and Kuwait in particular. It also contributes new knowledge regarding the complex situation currently faced by the Bedoun, the role of intellectuals in the Arab Spring social movement and subsequently, their contribution to developing formal systems of knowledge about their own culture.
