Promoting the Use of Technical Standards Inindustry-Oriented Engineering Education

The role of technical standards (TS) has become increasingly important for engineering over the past years. Nowadays, undergraduates are not only our future colleagues in industry and academia, but they also constitute the future workforce of a very significant part of the industry. The accomplishments of professional activities require a correct understanding of the role of technical standards applied to the industry, especially within the computing and the telecommunications fields. One of the challenges is to find the right way to introduce technical standards to enhance the learning experience by pointing students to the best practices of the industry. We found a stimulating alternative to overcome this challenge through the IEEE Student Branch Program. This paper presents one case of success, the IEEE's Student Branch in Spain during 2014, 2015 and 2017 and the Exemplary Student Branch Award (2017 to 2019) of Region 8 (Europe, Middle East and Africa).

ABSTRACT Background Since 2012, several academic centers in the Middle East have attained accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education International (ACGME-I). An emerging group of GME leaders have assumed the role of designated institutional official (DIO), leading their institutions to accreditation. Despite these DIOs' key positions in driving GME reform, there is a lack of published studies on the roles, responsibilities, and needs of DIOs in international settings. Objective We examined the characteristics, roles, responsibilities, and needs of DIOs in the Middle East. Methods A questionnaire was electronically distributed from December 2018 to February 2019 to all current and former DIOs in ACGME-I accredited institutions in the Middle East. Results Of 16 surveys sent, 11 (69%) were returned. All DIOs were physicians; the majority were women less than 55 years of age, and assumed the role of DIO in the past decade. Most DIOs felt prepared for the position and well supported by their institution and their program directors. All reported having additional roles beyond the DIO position. Most identified the most challenging aspect of their role related to GME budgets, training for their responsibilities, sharing best practices and documents such as DIO job descriptions and other key documents, and DIO training. Conclusions ACGME-I accreditation is a critical driver of efforts to define the DIO role. DIOs in the Middle East share common perceptions, experiences, and needs. Further research should identify professional development needs in an increasingly diverse international worldwide DIO community.

Abstract INTRODUCTION: During the past decade, there has been a paradigm shift in medical education from the problem-based learning to competency-based training. This has forced a rethink on the way we evaluate the residents and finally give them the right to handle patients independently. This study makes the first attempt towards designing competency-based training program for pathology residents by formulating the entrustable professional activities (EPAs) for the 1st year pathology residents. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A questionnaire comprising 18 potential EPAs in histopathology and 12 potential EPAs in cytology were circulated among the residents of Pathology Department. The respondents were asked to grade the EPAs on a scale of 0–4 based on how important they considered that activity as EPA. The cumulative score of each EPA was divided by the number of respondents to arrive at the average score. The EPAs with an average score of 3 or more qualified to be shortlisted as consensus EPAs. RESULTS: Five activities each of histopathology and cytopathology had an average score of 3 or above and were shortlisted as EPAs for the 1st year pathology postgraduates. Each of these was also mapped to their respective competencies. CONCLUSION: There is an urgent need to restructure the postgraduate pathology curriculum in line with competency-based training. This study is the first step in this direction.

Over the past few years the issue of asylum has progressively become interrelated with human rights. Asylum-related stresses, including refugee flows and mass displacements, have mitigated the traditional idea of asylum as an absolute state right, in so far as international human rights standards of protection require that states may have the responsibility to provide asylum seekers with protection. Following this premise, the article argues that the triggering factor of such overturning is significantly represented by the judicial approach to the institution of asylum by regional human rights courts. After setting the background on the interrelation of asylum with human rights, this article conceptualises the right to asylum as derived from the principle of non-refoulement and to this extent it delves into the role of the two regional human rights courts, notably the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACtHR), in order to explore whether an emerging judicial cross-fertilisation may contribute to re-conceptualisation of the right to asylum from a human rights perspective.

During the past two decades, historians of the last Ottoman centuries have produced ground-breaking research documenting the increasing economic interaction between Europe and the Middle East. Relying on information about the empire's trade with Europe, scholars have concluded that the 19th century was a time of transformation–in culture, in politics, and in economics. By thus calling our attention to changing circumstances, these historians, economists, art historians, and sociologists have outlined a general landscape of upheaval and change.1 Monographs on Ottoman cities, focusing on the effects of international trade on coastal areas, have begun to sketch in the epicenters of massive economic dislocation.2

When carrying out professional activities, officers of the VNG of the Russian Federation are often in difficult, stressful, emotionally stressful situations associated with the use of weapons as a particularly dangerous means of destruction. The right to use a weapon by an officer makes him responsible for its use. And therefore requires the officer to make a balanced optimal decision, which is associated with the risk and transience of events, and in which no mistake can be made, since the price of it can be someone's life. It is at such a moment that it is important that the officer has stable skills in making a decision on the use of weapons, and this requires skills not only in managing subordinates or the situation,but in managing himself. The complication of the military-professional activity, manifested in the need to develop the ability to quickly and accurately make command decisions, exacerbating the problem of social responsibility of an officer who has the management of unit that leads to an understanding of his singular personal and professional responsibility, as the ability to govern themselves makes it possible to achieve a positive result of the Department for the DBA. This characterizes the need for a commander to have the ability to manage himself, as a "system" that manages others. Forming skills of self-control, patience, compassion, having mastered algorithms of making managerial decisions, the cycle of implementing managerial functions, etc., a person comes to the belief: "before effectively managing others, it is necessary to learn how to manage yourself." The required level of personal and professional maturity can be formed in a person as a result of purposeful self-management, which determines the special role of professional and personal self-management in the training of future officers.

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature World Parks Congress is held once a decade, and brings together thousands of the world’s experts on protected areas. In 2014, the Sydney World Parks Congress and the parallel event, Global Eco, provided a platform for 125 presentations relating to tourism and visitation. This paper presents a synthesis of the body of work shared at Sydney, including some of the cutting-edge issues, best practices, and inspiring initiatives relating to sustainable tourism. In particular, it compares issues that were highlighted at the 2003 World Parks Congress, and how they have evolved and progressed over the past decade. The paper highlights the role of different stakeholders from different corners of the world in promoting sustainable tourism practices. It also considers the relevance of tourism to the themes of the World Parks Congress, and how the sector is reflected within the official records of the 2003 and 2014 World Parks Congress. Looking forward to the next 10 years, the paper reflects on specific challenges, gaps in knowledge, and areas for further research and outreach.

The Syrian crisis is one of the most extensive issue of Middle East. The enduring fight among Baathist regime and factions of rebellion groups created a humanitarian dilemma in the country. Since 2011 the people of Syria are in complete despair, every dawn increases the intensity of their misery. The high amount of civilian deaths and destruction of infrastructure turned the country in to complete turmoil. Every day thousands of Syrian entre in Greece and Turkey for refuge and security, many among them died during this process which regularly shows on television screens but regional and internal actors are looking completely disable to do any significant effort to settle the conflicts among opponents of crisis. Therefore, the peace prospects are not very hopeful because the ongoing clashes frequently sabotage every effort between the combatants. This study design to discuss the reasons, consequences and effects of civil war on Syrians and enlightened the direct and indirect role of regional and Western powers in the past seven years.

The background of Latin American society in the past who were familiar with the hegemony of power of the bourgeoisie caused concern in the hearts of Christian theologians at the time. This concern finally gave birth to a theological model known as Liberation Theology. Liberation Theology is a praxis-oriented theological model, namely real action for the liberation of marginalized, poor and oppressed people. But the thought of Marxism influenced the concept of Liberation Theology so that the theological model was more like a destructive ideology. Bringing the concept of Liberation Theology to the light of the word of God is the right action for the church today in responding to the Liberation Theology. The aim is to analyze the contents of Liberation Theology, and how should the role of the church address the Liberation Theology, and apply liberation theology in everyday life. The method used is an explanatory qualitative approach to the role of the church in response to Liberation Theology.Abstrak: Latar belakang masyarakat Amerika Latin di masa lampau yang akrab dengan hegemoni kekuasaan kaum borjuis menyebabkan timbulnya keprihatinan dalam hati para teolog Kristen kala itu. Keprihatinan ini akhirnya melahirkan suatu model teologi yang dikenal dengan nama Teologi Pembebasan. Teologi Pembebasan adalah model teologi yang berorientasi pada praksis, yaitu tindakan nyata untuk pembebasan kaum termarginalkan, miskin dan tertindas. Akan tetapi pemikiran Marxisme turut memengaruhi konsep Teologi Pembebasan sehingga model teologi ini lebih mirip ideologi yang destruktif. Membawa konsep Teologi Pembebasan kepada terang firman Tuhan adalah tindakan yang tepat bagi gereja masa kini dalam menyikapi Teologi Pembebasan. Tujuan tulisan ini adalah menganalisis isi Teologi Pembebasan, dan bagaimana seharusnya peran gereja menyikapi Teologi Pembebasan tersebut, dan menerapkan teologi pembebasan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif yang bersifat eksplanatori tentang peran gereja menyikapi Teologi Pembebasan.

<em>Arbitration has been known since ancient times, Arbitration is an ancient system known to the ancient Greeks and Romans, and the first origins of arbitration was in the ancient Roman era. Arbitration is a legal path that seeks to resolve disputes when parties choose to deal with it. The result of the arbitration is called an arbitration award. Where this judgment is issued as a decision of rights and it is binding for opponents subject to it, and when the opponent who has the right obtained an arbitration award for his benefit, this arbitration award does not pay off the purpose of it only after the implementation of the other opponent for what it says. The issue of Execution of arbitration award is very important, and the arbitration decision includes judgment on the parties to the dispute and giving the right to another party and may also include binding the parties as if the expenses were divided between them. As for the implementation of the arbitrators award, it is only if the arbitration award has reached a certain degree of strength, so that the objection to it does not have an impact on its executive power or its enforcement, and this is with the approval of the judiciary. The role of the observer of the arbitration procedures upon the issuance of the arbitration award, in addition to that he plays an important role through the arbitration procedures from bringing a witness or bringing papers from a government agency, and from that we reach the research point where the judiciary and arbitration are connected through oversight of the arbitration award after its issuance as The judiciary determines the fate of the entire arbitration process, as it can nullify this ruling or make it enforceable</em>

<p>During the Covid-19 pandemic, learning was carried out online. It takes student activeness with the right approach and method to provide maximal learning experiences and learning outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to describe the application of the facilitated e-learning approach combined with the 5E method on student activeness in learning. This paper used the descriptive qualitative research method. Students are imagebearers of God so a teacher should view students as special and valuable. Students have reason and ability so it can be said that they are active individuals. Therefore, a teacher should always encourage their activiteness during the learning process. Implementing the facilitated e-learning approach with the 5E method is the right solution because the students carry out learning activities independently with the teacher in the role of facilitator.  This has the potential to encourage student activeness in online learning so that students can get the maximum learning experience and learning outcomes and teachers can provide God-centered learning. In applying these approaches and methods, a teacher needs careful and measured preparation in order to provide the maximum learning experience even though it is carried out online.</p><p><strong>BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: </strong>Selama pandemi covid-19, pembelajaran dilaksanakan secara daring. Dibutuhkan keaktifan siswa dengan pendekatan dan metode yang tepat untuk tetap memberikan pengalaman belajar dan hasil belajar yang maksimal. Tujuan penulisan dari penelitian ini untuk memaparkan penerapan pendekatan <em>facilitated e-learning</em> dikolaborasikan dengan metode 5E terhadap keaktifan siswa dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini disusun dengan metode penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Hasil pembahasan dari penelitian, siswa merupakan gambar dan rupa Allah sehingga seorang guru hendaknya memandang siswa istimewa dan berharga. Siswa memiliki akal dan kemampuan sehingga siswa dapat dikatakan sebagai pribadi yang aktif. Maka dari itu, seorang guru hendaknya dapat selalu mendorong keaktifan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Kesimpulannya, menerapkan pendekatan <em>facilitated e-learning </em>dengan metode 5E merupakan solusi yang tepat karena siswa melakukan aktivitas pembelajaran secara mandiri dengan guru memiliki peran sebagai fasilitator yang berpotensi mendorong keaktifan siswa dalam pembelajaran daring sehingga siswa dapat mendapatkan pengalaman belajar dan hasil belajar yang maksimal serta guru dapat memberikan pembelajaran yang berpusat pada Allah. Disarankan seorang guru dalam menerapkan pendekatan dan metode tersebut perlu memberikan persiapan yang matang dan terukur agar dapat memberikan pengalaman belajar yang maksimal meskipun dilaksanakan secara daring.</p>
