Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the ultimate body mass, performance, and nutritional characteristics of the Algerian judo junior athletes, and also analysing the impact of nutritional intakes on stabilising Weight loss according to special performance of judo athletes. Material: Twenty-one male university athletes (aged: 21.45 ± 1.32; height: 1.81 ± 0.45 m; and body mass: 73.9 ± 4.1 kg) participated in this study during a period of stabilising Weight loss before and after 15 days of caloric restriction. Athletes were submitted to anthropometrical measurements and performed the Special Judo Fitness Test. Values for nutrient intakes were obtained from a 15 day food record kept during a training camp period of Weight maintenance and after a 15-day caloric restriction. Results : caloric restriction resulted in significant decreases in body mass (73.73 ± 2.1) and performance. However, Special Judo Fitness Test index increased significantly (14.00 ± 1.75) during caloric restriction in comparison to stabilising Weight loss. Conclusion: Exercise and caloric restriction lead to determine the ultimate Weight and physical performance. The present study provides baseline nutritional data that can be used in the prescription of individual training programs for university judo Athletes.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of caloric restriction on the immune and hormonal responses during exercise in judo athletes. In a randomised order, 11 male judokas (age: 20.45 ± 0.51; height: 1.71 ± 0.3 m; and body weight: 75.9 ± 3.1 kg) participate in this study during a period of weight maintenance (baseline) and after 7 days of caloric restriction (CR). All subjects performed the Special Judo Fitness Test (SJFT) during the two conditions. Values for nutrient intakes were obtained from a 7 d food record kept during a period of weight maintenance and after a 7-day food restriction (−5~6 MJ/day). Our results showed that CR resulted in significant decreases in body weight (P<0.05) and performance (P<0.05). However, heart rate and SJFT index (P<0.05) increase significantly during CR in comparison to baseline. Moreover, exercise leads to a significant increase in testosterone, cortisol, growth hormone (GH), leukocytes, neutrophils, TNF-α, and IL-6, in both CR and baseline conditions. Compared to baseline, TNF-αand IL-6 were significantly higher during CR condition (P<0.05). Additionally, CR leads to an increase in cortisol and GH (P<0.05) and a decrease in testosterone concentrations (P<0.05).

Background: Obesity is an independent risk factor for many diseases. Many studies have investigated the benefits of losing weight as well as the best methods for weight loss. This research evaluated the impact of various weight loss programs on health enhancement among overweight women aged 40–60 years. Methods: This was a retrospective observational study that analyzed data from 145 overweight women in weight loss programs. Each woman joined one of four programs: 8 weeks of exercise plus diet (exe + nutr), 8 weeks of diet only (nutrition), 8 weeks of exercise only, or a control group. Women completed a psychological questionnaire and also underwent anthropometric tests, blood pressure checks, a predicted maximal oxygen consumption (VO2 max) test on an ergometer bicycle, a one-leg balance test, straight leg test, and a sit and reach test, both before and after the program. Participants also provided a blood sample. Results: All of the measured variables improved in the exe + nutr and nutrition programs when compared with the control group; the exe + nutr group improved the most: body mass index, −1.3 kg/m2; body fat, −2.9%; lean body mass, +1.1; VO2 max, +4.8; body image, +1.02; and p < 0.01. Conclusion: The hypothesis-generating findings showed that weight loss programs improved anthropometric, biochemical, physiological, physical, and psychological variables in women aged 40–60 years. The program that included diet restriction with exercise, guidance, and regular counseling showed the best results.

Dietary caloric restriction, as a means to induce weight loss, is seldom used as a treatment of obesity in infancy for fear that permanent stunting of growth may result.1-4 Thus, there is little information on controlled weight loss as the treatment for infant obesity or, more importantly, its effect on growth in length, head circumference, and fat-free body mass during weight loss.5 We present a case of an obese infant who, secondary to a metabolic disorder, required nutritional support both intravenously and by nasogastric tube. During 15 months, the patient's resting energy expenditure (REE) was measured to determine an appropriate caloric intake to promote weight loss and later weight maintenance.

Proper hoof function is vital for equine health and performance. Many musculoskeletal injuries in horses originate from the foot. Most studies performed to date have focused on the forehoof while the hindhoof (HH) has received less attention. Our goal was to examine the influence of routine hoof trimming on HH medio-lateral hoof balance. The objective of this study was to examine force (F), contact pressure (CP), and contact area (CA) at the medial and lateral aspects of the HH to evaluate the impact of routine hoof trimming on HH biomechanics. Clinically sound Arabian horses (n=9) were walked across a calibrated pressure plate before and after routine hoof trimming and the F, CP, and CA at the medial and lateral aspects of the HH were recorded at midstance pre- and post-trimming. The differences between these regions were investigated using a paired T-test. P-values <0.05 were considered significant. Among measured variables, force increased by 25% (P=0.007) and contact pressure increased by 13% (P=0.032) at the medial aspect of the HH after routine hoof trimming. Analysing data from hindlimb hoof-surface interaction in sound horses will allow for a better understanding of imbalances that may lead to pathologies and hindlimb lameness in horses.

This paper empirically examines the impact of intellectual capital (IC) and Shariah governance on economic performance of 47 Islamic banks (IBs) operating in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region in pre- and post-financial crisis period. The analysis suggests that higher IC efficiency helps IBs to improve their odds of survival at all times i.e. before- and after-crisis. Further, higher IC efficiency helps IBs to maintain their profitability i.e. ROA and market valuation i.e. Tobin’s Q at all times. Arguably, knowledge-resources i.e. IC is the main line of defence for IBs against negative shocks. Lastly, the study reveals that Shariah governance alone may fall short in explaining the growth trends in Islamic finance industry. Adolescent judo athletes who train in tropical climates may be in a persistent state of dehydration because they frequently restrict fluids during daily training sessions to maintain or reduce their body weight and are not given enough opportunities to drink.Purpose:Determine the body hydration status of adolescent judo athletes before, immediately after, and 24 h after (24H) a training session and document sweat Na+ loss and symptoms of dehydration.Methods:Body mass and urine color and specific gravity (USG) were measured before, after, and 24 h after a training session in a high-heat-stress environment (29.5 ± 1.0°C; 77.7 ± 6.1% RH) in 24 adolescent athletes. Sweat sodium loss was also determined. A comparison was made between mid-pubertal (MP) and late pubertal (LP) subjects.Results:The majority of the subjects started training with a significant level of dehydration. During the training session, MP subjects lost 1.3 ± 0.8% of their pretraining body mass whereas LP subjects lost 1.9 ± 0.5% (P < .05). Sweat sodium concentration was 44.5 ± 23.3 mmol/L. Fluid intake from a water fountain was minimal. Subjects reported symptoms of dehydration during the session, which in some cases persisted throughout the night and the next day. The 24H USG was 1.028 ± 0.004 and 1.027 ± 0.005 g/mL for MP and LP, respectively.Conclusions:Adolescent judo athletes arrive to practice with a fluid deficit, do not drink enough during training, and experience symptoms of dehydration, which may compromise the quality of training and general well-being.

Treated as one of the biggest challenges in the Brazilian educational system, school failure, despite being multi-causal, is closely linked to learning difficulties associated with aspects of cognition, with special attention to the Executive Control of Memory, which in this study will be represented by the variables: Working Memory (MT), Concentrated Attention (AC) and Motor Reaction Time (TRM). Under neuropsychological aspects, the executive control of memory comprises closely linked phenomena and mechanisms and learning, such as: cognitive flexibility, decision making, attention mechanisms, inhibitory control, selection and integration of current information with information already memorized, in addition to planning and monitoring their own learning and performance. This form of cognitive ability is defined by renowned researchers in the “field” as being preponderant to human learning and performance. Dysfunctions in the executive control of memory are commonly a reflection of innate or non-innate psychopathological issues, may be associated with other comorbidities, and are determinants of school failure in a significant number of Brazilian students. Thus, the main objective of this research project is to verify the impact of the practice of the fighting modality Fencing on the executive control of the memory of students from the public school system, participants of this action research, included in psychopedagogical care for issues related to learning difficulties cognitive. The Field Research technique will be used in this study, with the process of testing the variables under study in moments before and after the intervention with fencing classes. The data obtained in the testing process will be treated in a descriptive statistical perspective. For the inference of the data obtained, the Student T Test for dependent samples will be used. To verify the distribution of data, the Shapiro-Wilk test will be used. As a result, research participants are expected to obtain statistically significant results in the studied variables.

Abstract Background and Aims Increased levels of parathyroid hormone (PTH) are associated with a negative impact on the bone-muscle axis including sarcopenia with muscle weakness and muscle atrophy and osteoporosis, and it is possible that treating hyperparathyroidism (HPT) can ameliorate these disturbances. However, the effects of parathyroidectomy (PTX) on muscle mass, strength and performance, and physical activity have not been thoroughly investigated. This study aims to evaluate the impact of PTX on muscle (mass, strength, and performance), physical activity, body fat and resting energy expenditure (REE) in patients on hemodialysis with severe HPT. Method We are prospectively evaluating muscle mass strength, performance and physical activity of 30 patients before and after 6 months of PTX by using Actigraph GT3X accelerometer, timed-up-and-Go (TuG), Sit-to-Stand-to-Sit (STS) and muscle strength tests [handgrip (HGS), supine (SP) and leg press (LP)]. Body composition changes were assessed by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), and REE was examined by indirect calorimetry. Results At 6 months after PTX, 11 patients who already completed the protocol, showed a significant drop in PTH [1445 (1363-1937) vs. 54 (23-132) pg/mL; p = 0.002] and alkaline phosphatase [306 (235-744) vs. 77.5 (52-100] U/L); p = 0.002], a significant increase of number of steps/day [4321 (3384 – 6317) vs. 5950 (3918 – 7159); p = 0.04] and improvements of strength tests: HGS (27 ±14 vs. 31 ±15 kg; p = 0.01); SP (27 ±15 vs. 31 ±17 kg; p = 0.01] and LP [27 (2-36) vs. 36 (24-89) kg; p 0.04]. In addition, there was a significant reduction of TuG [10 (8-15) vs. 8 (7-11) seconds; p = 0.01], and a tendency towards STS improvement [6 (0-7) vs. 8 (7-11); p = 0.06]. A significant increase in body weight (66 ± 12 vs. 68 ± 14 Kg; p = 0.02), body mass index [24 (21–26) vs. 26 (21–28) kg/m2; p 0.001], and bone mineral content (BMC) [1.8 (1.3-2) vs. 2.1 (1.7-2.7); p=0.002] was seen. However, lean body mass (LBM) decreased [40.4 (38-55) vs. 39 (37-51) Kg; p=0.001], whereas fat mass (FAT) increased [18 (17-28) vs. 24 (17–30) kg; p = 0.02]. No change was noted in skeletal muscle index (SMI) and in REE [1580 (1193–1988) vs. 1473 (1326 - 1786) kcal/day; p = 0.7). We noticed a tendency toward an increase in IGF-1 levels [180 (141-207) vs. 223 (151-281) µg/L; p = 0.08], but no significant variation was found in serum albumin, insulin and HOMA index. Conclusion In hemodialysis patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism undergoing PTX, there were marked improvements of muscular function and bone mass, but not of muscle mass. Our findings suggest that PTH-associated sarcopenia is mediated not only by a decrease in muscle mass but also by muscle dysfunction. The long-term effect of PTX on muscle status remains to be further examined.
