Da river is the biggest one of three rivers: Da, Thao and Lo which flow into Hong river, so calculating and forecasting correctly the discharge to Hoa Binh reservoir take an important role in managing the task of flood preventing in the Hong - Thai Binh river system. In this paper, a connected hydraulic-hydrological model is developed. The model was applied to forecast the discharge into Hoa Binh reservoir in the flood season 2006. The difference of this connected hydraulic-hydrological model in comparison with the other hydrological models is using the complete Saint-Venant 1D to simulate flow in rivers. Results of verification of the model show that it is good enough for practice.

With the environment problems more and more emerged the matters caused by dewatering are set out to be probed and the rule that the ground settlement around a dewatering well presents a funnel shape , is acquainted usually. But in the case of special geology and hydrology due to this paper a new ground settlement pattern presents according to the buildings failure status and the subsequently monitoring results analysis. Namely the ground settlement along the transverse direction to the underground runoff presents V-shape flute profile in the area around the predominant underground runoff. The results also demonstrate that: 1 The foundation type in main building is as same as in the podium building .The main building kept stable while the podium building presented large settlement and inclination and went to failure in final during the construction of the pit. 2 The difference of affecting degree due to dewatering in the environment around the pit is variable and the main affecting zone appears locality and directivity. According to the investigation the most possible main resource of dewatering originates from the river system around to the pit pass by the podium building. 3 Combining the construction process of the pit and the time points of deformation in the building , associability is confirmed between buildings deformation and dewatering on the pit on the ground of excluding the other artificial factors around the building.

Abstract. The Red River (Vietnam) is representative of a south-east Asian river system, strongly affected by climate and human activities. This study aims to quantify the spatial and seasonal variability of CO2 partial pressure and CO2 emissions of the lower Red River system. Water quality monitoring and riverine pCO2 measurements were carried out for 24 h at five stations distributed along the lower Red River system during the dry and the wet seasons. The riverine pCO2 was supersaturated relative to the atmospheric equilibrium (400 ppm), averaging about 1589±43 ppm and resulting in a water–air CO2 flux of 530.3±16.9 mmol m−2 d−1 for the lower Red River. pCO2 and CO2 outgassing rates were characterized by significant spatial variation along this system, with the highest values measured at Hoa Binh station, located downstream of the Hoa Binh Dam, on the Da River. Seasonal pCO2 and CO2 outgassing rate variations were also observed, with higher values measured during the wet season at almost all sites. The higher river discharges, enhanced external inputs of organic matter from watersheds and direct inputs of CO2 from soils or wetland were responsible for higher pCO2 and CO2 outgassing rates. The difference in pCO2 between the daytime and the night-time was not significant, suggesting weak photosynthesis processes in the water column of the Red River due to its high sediment load.

In the paper the optimal operation of Hoabinh reservoir for flood control on Hong–Thai Binh river system is presented. The findings show that in the flood season in 1996 if the operation of gates and outlets of Hoa Binh reservoir was made base on the calculated release, the water level at Hanoi would be 12.3 m and the water level of Hoa Binh reservoir would be 98 m. So the calculated release from Hoabinh reservoir in August 1996 can be considered as optimal in the mean that the water level at Hanoi can be controlled and the Hoabinh reservoir still have necessary pool for controlling the next floods.

SummaryThe authors previously reported a transient decrease in adhesive platelet count and an enhancement of blood coagulability after administration of a small amount of adrenaline (0.1-1 µg per Kg, i. v.) in man and rabbit. In such circumstances, the sensitivity of platelets to aggregation induced by ADP was studied by an optical density method. Five minutes after i. v. injection of 1 µg per Kg of adrenaline in 10 rabbits, intensity of platelet aggregation increased to 115.1 ± 4.9% (mean ± S. E.) by 10∼5 molar, 121.8 ± 7.8% by 3 × 10-6 molar and 129.4 ± 12.8% of the value before the injection by 10”6 molar ADP. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.01-0.05). The above change was not observed in each group of rabbits injected with saline, 1 µg per Kg of 1-noradrenaline or 0.1 and 10 µg per Kg of adrenaline. Also, it was prevented by oral administration of 10 mg per Kg of phenoxybenzamine or propranolol or aspirin or pyridinolcarbamate 3 hours before the challenge. On the other hand, the enhancement of ADP-induced platelet aggregation was not observed in vitro, when 10-5 or 3 × 10-6 molar and 129.4 ± 12.8% of the value before 10∼6 molar ADP was added to citrated platelet rich plasma (CPRP) of rabbit after incubation at 37°C for 30 second with 0.01, 0.1, 1, 10 or 100 µg per ml of adrenaline or noradrenaline. These results suggest an important interaction between endothelial surface and platelets in connection with the enhancement of ADP-induced platelet aggregation by adrenaline in vivo.

This chapter presents the equations and calculations for energy approximation. It establishes the estimates (261) and (262) of the Main Lemma (10.1) for continuous solutions; these estimates state that we are able to accurately prescribe the energy that the correction adds to the solution, as well as bound the difference between the time derivatives of these two quantities. The chapter also introduces the proposition for prescribing energy, followed by the relevant computations. Each integral contributing to the other term can be estimated. Another proposition for estimating control over the rate of energy variation is given. Finally, the coarse scale material derivative is considered.

The simulation of combined sewer overflow volumes and loads is important for the assessment of the overflow and overflow load to the receiving water to predict the hydraulic or the pollution impact. Hydrodynamic models are very data-intensive and time-consuming for long-term quality modelling. Hence, for long-term modelling, hydrological models are used to predict the storm flow in a fast way. However, in most cases, a constant rain intensity is used as load for the simulation, but in practice even for small catchments rain occurs in rain cells, which are not constant over the whole catchment area. This paper presents the results of quality modelling considering moving storms depending on the rain cell velocity and its moving direction. Additionally, tipping bucket gauge failures and different corrections are also taken into account. The results evidence the importance of these considerations for precipitation due the effects on overflow load and show the difference up to 28% of corrected and uncorrected data and of moving rain cells instead of constant raining intensities.

Rhetoric has always been torn between the rhetoric of figures and the rhetoric of conflicts or arguments, as if rhetoric were exclusively one or the other. This is a false dilemma. Both types of rhetoric hinge on the same structure. A common formula is provided in Chapter 3 which unifies rhetoric stricto sensu and rhetoric as argumentation as two distinct but related strategies adopted according to the level of problematicity of the questions at stake, thereby giving unity to the field called “Rhetoric.” Highly problematic questions require arguments to justify their answers; non-divisive ones can be treated rhetorically through their answers as if they were self-evident. Another classic problem is how to understand the difference between logic and rhetoric. The difference between the two is due to the presence of questions explicitly answered in the premises in logic and only suggested (or remaining indeterminate) in rhetoric.

The respiratory rates of three species of planktonic copepods, Acartia clausi, Centropages hamatus and Temora longicornis, were measured at four different temperatures. The relationship between respiratory rate and temperature was found to be similar to that previously found for Calanus, although the slope of the curves differed in the different species. The observations on Centropages at 13 and 170 C. can be divided into two groups and it is suggested that the differences are due to the use of copepods from two different generations. The relationship between the respiratory rates and lengths of Acartia and Centropages agreed very well with that previously found for other species. That for Temora was rather different: the difference is probably due to the distinct difference in the shape of the body of Temora from those of the other species. The application of these measurements to estimates of the food requirements of the copepods is discussed.

AbstractGalaxy groups offer an important perspective on how the large-scale structure of the Universe has formed and evolved, being great laboratories to study the impact of the environment on the evolution of galaxies. We aim to investigate the properties of a galaxy group that is gravitationally lensing HELMS18, a submillimeter galaxy at z = 2.39. We obtained multi-object spectroscopy data using Gemini-GMOS to investigate the stellar kinematics of the central galaxies, determine its members and obtain the mass, radius and the numerical density profile of this group. Our final goal is to build a complete description of this galaxy group. In this work we present an analysis of its two central galaxies: one is an active galaxy with z = 0.59852 ± 0.00007, while the other is a passive galaxy with z = 0.6027 ± 0.0002. Furthermore, the difference between the redshifts obtained using emission and absorption lines indicates an outflow of gas with velocity v = 278.0 ± 34.3 km/s relative to the galaxy.
