OBJECTIVE: This study analyzed the increase in the number of undergraduate nursing courses during the last two decades due to the expansion of higher education in Brazil. METHOD: A records-based research concerning the legal frameworks that have driven this movement and a quantitative research that described the increase in the number of professional nursing courses. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis (qualitative) and descriptive statistics (quantitative). RESULTS: the political-ideological argument present in the regulatory documents, which points out higher education as a possibility to change the current social scenario, has not been reflected in the professional nursing field. The expansion of nursing courses has been unfolding in a disorderly manner and is concentrated in the private sector, with geographical inequality in the distribution of these courses. CONCLUSION: There does not seem to be a concern with the local needs and with a connection among education, research and extension, which compromises the quality of the education provided to future nurses.

Purpose. Over the past two decades, concerned with how stakeholders perceive the value of their services, universities have adopted entrepreneurial orientations and relationship marketing approaches into their activities. The fierce competition on the global higher education market, forced university managers to innovate, to look for new ways to build their offer. Relationship marketing and the knowledge regarding the stakeholders, primarily the students’ perception of their offerings, can provide universities with a competitive advantage. As such, university managers need to carry out satisfaction surveys, inquiries regarding the universities image or the perceived value of the academic programs and services offered, need to plan and organize offline and online integrated marketing communication campaigns. Methodology/Design/Approach. Based on the resemblance of perceived value with a Rubik's cube, university marketers can constantly innovate through the way they match the various dimensions of perceived value or facets of the cube to meet the stakeholders’ expectations. Result /Findings. This research highlights the dimensions of the perceived value of the educational offer and determines the extent to which factors such as the university image, the source of financing the studies and the duration of the student - university relationship have an influence on the perception of value. For this purpose we conducted a quantitative research on a sample of 320 students from the largest faculty from the West University of Timișoara, Romania. To perform the statistical data analysis, the following steps were carried out: (1) the reliability of the measurement scales analysis; (2) the opportunity to perform the factorial analysis verification; (3) the exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis and (4) the research hypotheses testing. Research results showed that the perceived relational value affects the student’s perceptions on the quality of learning, the usefulness and quality of the acquired knowledge, the employment opportunities. The institutional image has a positive influence on the perceived value of the educational offer. For university or faculty managers, it is important to know how to combine the various facets of the perceived value-technical value, relational value, social value, temporal value- in order to provide the value expected by their stakeholders, primarily by students.

Brazilian higher education has doubled its size in the 1990s, going from 1.5 million to more than 3 million students in the period. This expansion was mostly due to the growth of private education, which, in 2002, accounted for about two thirds of the enrollment. Is expansion making higher education more accessible to persons coming from the poorer segments of society? Is the quality of higher education suffering by the speed of this expansion? Is Brazil educating enough qualified persons to attend to the country's needs to participate in the new, knowledge-intensive and global economy? What public policies should be implemented, in order to foster the values of social equity and relevance? What are the policy implications of these developments? This article looks at the available evidence, and suggests some answers to these questions.

The text focuses on national policies for Distance Higher Education (DHE) and aims to analyze the trajectory of policies under this modality and to reflect on the challenges that its growth poses for ensuring the quality of education. It is a documentary and bibliographic research, supported by a careful search of the legislation that rules and organizes the offer of distance higher education in Brazil, complemented by a careful review of the literature from authors who discuss the subject. The DHE regulation at the national level was consolidated with the approval of Federal Law No. 9.394 of December 20, 1996, Ley de Directrices y Bases de la Educación Nacional –LDBEN- (law on guidelines and bases of national education), giving way to a period of incentive for the implementation of this modality. In 2017, Federal Decree No. 9.057 of 25 May, supplemented by Portaria Regulation No. 11 of 20 June 2017, significantly altered the legislation and standardization of the Brazilian DHE with a strong favoring towards the accelerated expansion of distance higher education. Brazil has considerable challenges to be faced with regard to DHE, among which the quality of the education offer stands out, including service provision, access and permanence of students in higher education, the use of digital technologies and the expansion of this modality.

The quality of higher education (HE) is one of the key areas the higher education system of the Maldives focuses on to develop and expand the sector. Two of the factors that contribute to and influence the quality of HE are professional development (PD) and lecturers’ competency. However, in the context of Maldives, although efforts are made in the area of PD, little to no research has been conducted in this area. Hence, the purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between lecturer PD activities and their competencies in Maldives’ higher education institutes. A quantitative research design was adopted, which conducted a cross-sectional survey by administering a structured online questionnaire. A total of 171 lecturers participated, which included both full-time and part-time lecturers from two public and two private institutions. Data analysis revealed that there is a weak positive correlation between PD activities and lecturers’ competency; rs(129)=0.232, p=0.008. It is also possible that PD activities conducted do not cater for the needs of lecturers, and a culture where structured and individual PD activities are supported and encouraged is not efficiently established. In light of these findings, it is important to strengthen and expand the existing PD policies and focus on providing effective PD sessions on topics and areas that are most needed for lecturers, rather than on generic topics. This study contributes to the empirical literature on PD in the context of Maldives and to the overall development of the HE sector.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the internationalization market of higher education (HE) globally and HE field. It examines the internationalization status of HE in Jordan as influenced by institutional perspectives as an example from developing countries. Design/methodology/approach This paper adopts a quantitative research design that includes a statistical and SWOT analysis of HE in Jordan. Data were collected from different courses: documents and archival records, websites analysis, surveys, interviews with professors and administrators, and an SWOT analysis as well as TOWS matrix. The latter has been constructed as a picture of internationalized education in the Jordan that can be used as a basis for decision making and strategies for higher education institutions (HEIs). Findings The study findings reveal that it is important for Jordan to endorse itself as an “education hub” in the Middle East and to educate its community to the level of skills required by globalization. The challenges of internationalizing HE are revealed by the SWOT analysis and TOWS matrix that highlight a wide range of opportunities and strengths that encourages the Jordan HE system to accelerate internationalization. The opportunities include overall improvement in the quality of education, the diffusion of technology and creating a globally competent workforce. The internationalization status in Jordan HE is still in its embryonic stage. The HE should take serious steps toward the internationalization including admission of international students, foreign postgraduate students, international accreditation, global ranking, online education and smart education. These steps will help the universities leaders to improve their universities position internationally and financially. Research limitations/implications The findings reveal implications for HE policy and strategy in the development of internationalized HE in the Jordan. The study shows how SWOT analysis and TOWS matrix can provide a solid platform against which particular case studies can be measured in terms of opportunities for and challenges of development. It also provides institutional perspectives with practical implications, focusing on some of the critical issues in this developing field for HE policy and strategy alike. A major threat to the Jordan progress in developing its HE sector identified in this study is external accreditation being seen as a signal of high quality, when more realistic standards are perhaps more relevant to the local population. Originality/value The paper is one of the very few studies in the area of the internationalization of HE in the Jordan that can contribute to the sustainability of the international dimension of HEIs. The opportunities and threats recognized in this paper can inform strategy for more balanced development of the Jordan’s internationalized HE, and for raising the quality of education overall.

Currently, the technological and administrative modernity has revolutionized the dynamics of work in organizations. In recent years, the existence of mobbing has been pointed out, which represents an obstacle to the integral development of workers; therefore, job satisfaction plays a fundamental role in the quality of life of people. In the present work a quantitative research was carried out, a transversal-correlational design was used, to determine if there is a statistically significant relationship between the mobbing variables and job satisfaction of the teachers of the Higher Education Institutions (HEI). The sample consisted of 248 teachers from four HEI in central Mexico. The hypotheses were evaluated through the chi-square statistical test. The results reveal the dependence between the dimensions of the variables analyzed.

Introduction: Nursing education has been undergoing transformations in due to the need to adapt to the market demands. Thus, within the academic context, it is necessary to observe the quality of training linked to the demands of the contemporary world. To assess this quality, the National Institute of Studies and Research uses instruments to outline the quality panorama of the courses through the evaluation of students, through the result of the National Student Performance Exam, in addition to using the educational indexes: administrative category, institutional nature, number of vacancies offered and course concept. Objective: To outline the current panorama of undergraduate nursing courses in the Northeast region, establishing a relation with the quality of teaching based on the evaluation of educational indices. Methodology: Document research, of a descriptive character and qualitative approach, using secondary data from the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira of the Ministry of Education, available in April 2020. The sample consists of 336 institutions that offer 406 undergraduate courses in nursing in the Northeast. The data were compiled in an Excel®️ spreadsheet and statistically analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 program. Results: It was observed that the face-to-face modality stands out with 89% coverage in the region, but distance learning includes the largest number of places. Public education institutions stand out with the higher concepts of the course. The NSPE evaluation concept 2 was the one that most appeared in the evaluated courses. The state of Bahia has the largest amount of courses, with 24.5%, and Sergipe was the lowest index (5.4%), but it has an average of vacancies higher than the average in the region. Final considerations: The analysis of this study shows a deficit in the quality of undergraduate nursing courses in the Northeast. Further studies in the area of Nursing Education are needed to analyze the monitoring of its quality.
