Abstract Trajectories in higher education and the University for All Program (ProUni) are the central theme of this paper. The research question was: To what extent were some factors experienced during university difficulties in the academic trajectory of ProUni and non-ProUni graduates? The approach was quantitative with an explanatory goal. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used in the data analysis. The research subjects were 197 higher education graduates from a Southern Brazil nonprofit institution who entered in 2005. 57 were ProUni scholarship holders and 140 were non-ProUni. Results indicate that the highest percentage of graduates who worked during college were not scholarship holders. A T-test was performed after creating the scales for external (p = 0.19) and internal (p = 0.66) factors, indicating that in both factors there was no statistically significant difference between being a ProUni scholarship holder or not and the difficulties presented during their academic trajectory. Results indicate the need for studies involving the set of higher education graduates in order to better understand the difficulties faced by both groups of students in their academic trajectories.

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) competences have been widely discussed over the past decade. A number of frameworks have been developed, and the Erasmus+ Project “A Rounder Sense of Purpose” (RSP) set out to establish a profound and practical framework of competences to be used in any European context to enable in-service and pre-service educators to demonstrate their competence in ESD. Over the course of two years at the University of Vechta, staff training was provided using the RSP competences model as a guiding framework. Data were collected through a focus group and a self-assessment survey in order to answer the research question, “Which competences do university teachers need in order to work with the concept of ESD in higher education and how can these be developed in a series of staff training workshops?” The results show that all 12 RSP competences are indeed relevant for higher education teaching, but the potential for developing them into a staff training programme is limited. There are multiple trigger points and settings that are beneficial to and necessary for the development of ESD competences. If those conditions are not met there is limited opportunity for applying ESD methods within higher education.

This chapter discusses intercultural education (in general) addressing some of its challenges and opportunities within a local context of a public university in Brazil. A review of literature on intercultural education and internationalization of higher education was conducted, followed by a meta-analysis of a corpus composed of 22 studies/documents in the university analyzed, comparing them with the reviewed literature. The study sought to answer the research question of what are the possibilities and limitations of intercultural education in the university analyzed (UFES). The discussion contrasts the analysis of the corpus with the literature reviewed suggesting that UFES adopts English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) approaches and internationalization models from the Global North which in turn, pose more difficulties than possibilities for intercultural education there. The chapter concludes that the use of other languages besides English in approaches such as CLIL, COIL, and Intercomprehension represent relevant alternatives to foster multilingualism and intercultural education in that context.

The global pandemic of the virus COVID-19 dramatically has impacted Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Bosnia and Herzegovina and worldwide. HEIs were forced to switch overnight to online lectures and exams without almost any teachers' and students' preparation and education. After one year of online classes at the University of Mostar (SUM), whether that kind of teaching impacts creativity. In order to find the answer to the research question, the authors used a questionnaire they developed and applied in 2015 to investigate students' perceptions about creativity at the University of Mostar. The research presented in this paper is limited to SUM students who have had online classes since March 2020. The primary research goal is to investigate whether there are any significant changes in students' perceptions of creativity compared to research from 2015. Namely, the authors investigate whether the enhanced use of IT and online platforms (Google Meet, SUMARUM – the University of Mostar’s variant of Moodle) affected students' creativity. O presente ensaio apresenta reflexões acerca da pesquisa sobre a cibercultura e as tecnologias no âmbito acadêmico. Como objetivo, busca refletir sobre o processo de ensino-aprendizagem através de recursos tecnológicos nos cursos de licenciatura e como os discentes desse curso percebem sua preparação para a futura docência com o uso dos artefatos digitais. A metodologia utilizada foi a qualitativa, com revisão bibliográfica e análise de dados a partir do questionário aplicado com os discentes dos cinco cursos investigados. Tendo como principais teóricos os autores Cerutti e Giraffa (2015), Kesnki (2003), Pretto e Pinto (2006) e Prensky (2016), que elucidam sobre a utilização das tecnologias no ambiente educacional, o texto apresenta o referencial teórico e a análise de dados. Como conclusão, percebemos que a aprendizagem sobre as tecnologias precisam ser suas vivências na própria Universidade, uma vez que mesmo nativos digitais, os acadêmicos não se percebem fazendo uso das mesmas em seus futuros espaços de docência. Palavras-chave: Cibercultura. The objective is to reflect on the teaching-learning process through technological resources in undergraduate courses and how the students of this course perceive their preparation for future teaching with the use of digital artifacts. The methodology used was qualitative with bibliographic review and data analysis from the questionnaire applied with the students of the five courses investigated. The main authors are Cerutti and Giraffa (2015), Kesnki (2003), Pretto and Pinto (2006) and Prensky (2001), who elucidate the use of technologies in the educational environment, the text presents the theoretical reference and analysis of data. As a conclusion, we realize that learning about technologies must be their experiences in the University itself, since even digital natives, academics do not perceive making use of them in their future spaces of teaching.Keywords: Cyberculture. There are two permanent lecturers at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang, namely PNS (Civil Servant) and Non-PNS (Non-Civil Servant) lecturers, but for Non-PNS lecturers there are differences in treatment and legal uncertainty in that status. This study focuses on knowing the differences in psychological well-being between PNS and Non-PNS lecturers at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. This research is a comparative quantitative study. From 25% of the population the number of research subjects is 125 people (81 PNS lecturers and 44 Non-PNS lecturers). The measuring tool uses for the dimensions of psychological well-being is a modified scale and adapted from Ryff and Keyes (1995). The data analysis method used was the Independent Sample t-test using SPSS 24.0. The result of hypothesis test shows a significance value that states Ha is accepted and H0 is rejected. In conclusion, there is a significant difference between the psychological well-being of PNS lecturers and non-PNS lecturers at UIN Raden Fatah. The mean variant of Non-PNS lecturers is also smaller, meaning that the psychological well-being of PNS lecturers is higher than Non-PNS lecturers.

Several factors have emerged as a major concern in parenting styles as a determinant of career choice among undergraduates with disabilities at the University of Ilorin. This study examined the importance of parenting styles as a determinant of career choice including the concepts of gender, religion, age and level. A descriptive survey designed was adopted. The population consists of undergraduates with disabilities at the University of Ilorin, Kwara State. One research question was raised and four null hypotheses were postulated in the study. Data were collected using a questionnaire tagged “Parenting Styles as a Determinant of Career Choice among Undergraduates with Disability (PSDCCUDQ)”. Data analysis was done using t-test and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results obtained revealed that discussing the problem that many encountered during the ‘choosing my choice of career’ is the most influential parenting style as a determinant of career choice among undergraduates with disabilities at the University of Ilorin. The findings of the study also revealed that there were no significant differences in the perception of respondents on parenting styles as a determinant of career choice based on gender, age, religion but there was a significant difference in the respondents’ perception on parenting styles as a determinant of career choice based on level. Based on the findings of this study, it was recommended that professional school counsellors should provide collaborative support and training to parents on career guidance.


In this paper, we explored the research question: Does Twitter in a large-lecture format university course produced a difference in levels of self-reported student engagement? To do so, we utilize a quasi-experimental design testing the effect of Twitter on student engagement in introductory sociology and anthropology courses. Our hypotheses predicted that students using Twitter would report higher levels of five forms of student engagement (academic, intellectual, peer, and beyond-class engagement, along with an overall engagement variable). While peer-reviewed literature and others’ anecdotal reporting would lead us to expect a positive result, we found no significant difference in any form of engagement when Twitter was part of the course than when it was not. In fact, we found that students enrolled in the control (non-Twitter) condition perceived significantly higher levels of academic engagement then those in the experimental (used Twitter) condition. We also included a second set of hypothesis predicting that students who reported enjoying using Twitter would perceive of themselves as more engaged than those who did not enjoy Twitter. These hypotheses were supported across all forms of engagement. We report these findings and utilize comments from an open-ended questionnaire to explore potential reasons accounting for these differences and how students perceived Twitter as a classroom tool.

This quantitative study analyzed the perceptions of students on teaching effectiveness in private higher education institutions in Botswana. An exploratory and descriptive survey research design was adopted in this study. A valid and reliable questionnaire was used to collect data through a survey of 560 stratified randomly sampled students in private higher education institutions in Botswana. A One sample t-test and an Independent t-test were used for data analysis. A significant high level of teaching effectiveness was determined. Several items measuring teaching effectiveness contributed significantly negative to teaching effectiveness and therefore, it was recommended that lecturers should use strategies to improve on those areas of teaching to enhance their teaching. No difference in teaching effectiveness was determined with respect to age, gender and nationality of the students. However, there was a significant difference in the students’ perceptions on teaching effectiveness between the university and the non- university institutions and, lecturers were found to be more effective in their teaching at the universities as compared to the lecturers in the non -university institutions. Therefore, a further study exploring the factors contributing to such differences is recommended to improve the quality of teaching in the non- university type of private higher education institutions in Botswana.

Higher education is the source or feeder system in all works of life and therefore supplies the much-needed human resources in management, planning, designing, teaching and research. Scientific and technological advancements and economic growth of a country are as dependent on higher education system. This paper presents an investigation carried out to determine the perception of students regarding effective teaching in higher education. The research was conducted using data, collected from 100 participants of Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. A mixed analysis approach was used that includes both the qualitative as well as quantitative methods for data analysis. The findings of the study qualitatively showed that the gender wise overall 69% female students and 55% male students,Qualification wise 82% undergraduate students and 83% post-graduate students and the stream wise 59% arts, 59% science and 58% commerce students agree with the effective teaching in higher education. Further the results were strengthened by using quantitative data analysis. Quantitatively t-test was conducted on the data to verify the perception of participants and the results reveal that there is significant difference between the perceptions of the male and female student towards effective teaching in Higher education. Moreover, there is no significant difference of student’s perception on the basis of their academic qualification and streams towards effective teaching in higher education.

Stress is a serious problem that students tend to contend with in the course of their academic pursuit. The study investigated stress factors and sustainable development among undergraduates of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko. Descriptive research of the survey type design was adopted for this study. The population of the study consisted of all the students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko . Sample for the study was made up of 450 students selected through simple random sampling technique from the six faculties in the university. Questionnaire was used to collect data from respondents. One research question was raised and three hypotheses were tested at 0.05 alpha level. Data collected were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results revealed that there was a significant difference in the academic stress of undergraduates of AAUA. The Second hypothesis showed that there was a significant difference in the financial stress of undergraduates of AAUA. The third hypothesis also indicated that there was a significant difference in the psychosocial stress of undergraduates of AAUA. It was recommended that stress among the undergraduates should be handled through the help of counselors, financial assistance through the university work study. Adequate counseling should be made available to teach interpersonal skills and social adjustment programme should be made available for undergraduates.
