Objective To compare the endometrial echo values obtained by transvaginal ultrasonography with the body mass index of postmenopausal patients; to verify if there is higher prevalence of endometrial thickening in women with body mass index ≥30.Methods This is an analytical and cross-sectional study that evaluated 294 patients. Postmenopausal women were included, and those on hormone therapy were excluded. The variables evaluated were body mass index (considering obesity if >30), number of pregnancies, years since menopause, and age. These variables were correlated with endometrial echography.Results There was a statistically significant correlation between overweight and obese patients and increased endometrial thickness (p=0.0236). The correlation between age and endometrial echo was negative and statistically significant, that is, the older the woman, the lower the endometrial thickness (p=0.0478). Pregnancies and years since menopause showed no statistical significance in relation to endometrial echo, with p=0.0614 and p=0.115, respectively.Conclusion There was positive and significant correlation between body mass index ≥30 and endometrial thickeness.

ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the association between violence in childhood and increase in the Body Mass Index among adolescents. Method: a cross-sectional study, conducted with 136 adolescents aged from 10 to 19 years old, monitored by a Multiprofessional Residency Program in Adolescents' Health, in health units from the municipality of Divinópolis-MG. The anthropometric assessment was conducted from March to June 2018; and information was collected referring to the socioeconomic level, demographic factors, food consumption, and physical activity of the participants. The variable related to violence in childhood was composed of five groups, obtained from a factorial analysis. Multiple regression models were used to identify the variables associated with the increase in Body Mass Index, with a significance level of 5%. Results: the prevalence of excess weight was 31.8%. The adolescents participating in the study consumed soft drinks (66.2%) and industrialized food products (66.9%) every week and ate in front of the TV every day (54.4%). The most prevalent type of abuse was emotional neglect, which affected 100% of the sample under study. An association was evidenced of physical neglect in childhood and intake of industrialized food products with the increase in the Body Mass Index z-score. Conclusion: violence in childhood and the consumption of industrialized food products were associated to the increase in Body Mass Index among adolescents. Investments in public policies for comprehensive promotion of health and protection of children and adolescents are imperious.

CONTEXT AND OBJECTIVE: Increasing obesity is starting to occur among Brazilians. The aim of this study was to investigate the weight and length of children under two years of age in relation to sociodemographic variables and according to whether they were breastfed. DESIGN AND SETTING: Cross-sectional randomized study conducted in 2004-2005, based on the declaration of live births (SINASC) in Campinas, Brazil. METHODS: 2,857 mothers of newborns were interviewed and answered a questionnaire seeking socioeconomic and breastfeeding information. The newborns' weights and lengths were measured at the end of the interviews and the body mass index was calculated. Percentiles (< 15 and > 85) and Z-scores (< -1 and > +1) were used for classification based on the new growth charts recommended by WHO (2006). The log-rank test, multiple linear regression and binomial test (Z) were used. The statistical significance level used was 5%. RESULTS: The predominant social level was class C. The median for exclusive breastfeeding was 90 days; 61.25% of the children were between P15 and P85 for body mass index and 61.12% for length, respectively. Children whose mothers studied for nine to eleven years and children whose mothers were unemployed presented lower weight. Children whose mothers worked in health-related professions presented lower length when correlated with breastfeeding. CONCLUSION: The breastfeeding, maternal schooling and maternal occupation levels had an influence on nutrition status and indicated that obesity is occurring in early childhood among the infants living in the municipality.

Factors that affect worker producktivity is the intake level of nutrient of worker who can be seen from their nutritional status. The need for workers nutrition must be in accordance with the job. A worker with a good nutritional state will have a better working capacity and endurance, on the other hand a worker with a poor nutritional state will accelerate exhaustion and this can disrupt productivity. This study aims to know the correlation of nutritional status that consists of body mass index, energi intake, protein intake,  and intake of iron to the productivity of female workers in PT. Idec Abadi Wood Industries. This study uses cross sectional study design. The sample in this study was a female worker at the wholesale totaling 50 people, by measured the body mass index (BMI) and recall 24 hours. Data analysis technique used is multiple linier regression. Result from the study showed an association between nutrional status (BMI) and productivity (0,001 < 0,05), energy intake with productivity (0.008 < 0,05), intake of iron with productivity (0.045 < 0.05). And there was no significant association between protein intake and productivity (0,243 < 0,05). Companies were advised to make a special program for the monitoring process and the adequacy of nutrient intake of workers. The company needs to add medical personel especially in the field of nutrition. Introduction. Even though lumbar pain is one of the most common medical problems of today, it is difficult to determine its precise origin. When identifying the risk factors for developing lumbar pain, one should also take into account the personal characteristics such as gender, age, body mass index, smoking habits, physical activities etc. The basic goal of this study was to assess the relationship between the socio-demographic characteristics (age, gender, level of education), the body mass index, smoking habits, and lumbar pain in nurses. Material and Methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted in five healthcare institutions in the area of Vojvodina by interviewing nurses by means of the modified Nordic questionnaire. Results. The participants were predominantly female, the majority of them having secondary school degree. The study revealed a statistically significant relationship between lumbar pain and the increase of age and body mass index, while smoking habits did not influence the occurrence of lumbar pain. Conclusion. A better organization of work in relation to the age and gender as well body mass control would reduce the risk of lumbar pain.

Abstract Objectives Anti-tuberculosis drug-induced hepatotoxicity is a common serious adverse drug reaction. This study intended to determine the prevalence and associated factors of drug-induced hepatotoxicity among tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus co-infected patients in Dessie referral hospital northeast Ethiopia. Results In this cross-sectional study 84 patients were enrolled retrospectively. Data from September 1/2015 to August 30/2018 were extracted from March 1/2019 to April 1/2019. Association between dependent and independent variables was determined using the odds ratio and a P value of < 0.05 was considered as statistical significance. Out of 84 patients, 17 patients developed drug-induced hepatotoxicity which makes the prevalence of drug-induced hepatotoxicity 20.2%. The result revealed that the presence of disseminated or extrapulmonary tuberculosis [(AOR: 7.728, 95% CI (1.516–39.404)] and/or body mass index less than 18.5 kg/m2 [(AOR = 5.593, 95% CI (1.180–26.519)] were a risk factor for drug-induced hepatotoxicity. Tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus co-infected patients with extra- pulmonary tuberculosis and/or body mass index less than 18.5 kg/m2 should be closely followed and supervised for the development of hepatotoxicity.

BACKGROUND With the availability of more sophisticated methods, the utility of body mass index (BMI) as a measure of obesity and body fat estimation is being questioned. The current study aims to compare the estimation of body fat derived from BMI to that of directly measured bio impedance analysis (BIA). METHODS This is a cross sectional study conducted among IT employees of Bangalore City. Body fat % estimated from BMI using formula (adult BF = (1.20 x BMI) + (0.23 x age) - (10.8 x sex) - 5.4 where value for male = 1 & female = 0) and bioimpedance analysis (BIA) was compared using Bland-Altman analysis. RESULTS A total of 6901 participants were included and out of 6901 participants, 67.63 % were women. The mean age was 29.6 ± 6.68 years. The mean of the difference in body fat % calculated from BMI and estimated by BIA was 3.29, (- 9.99 to + 16.58 %). The mean difference was 3.43, (- 9.58 to + 16.45 %) and 2.89, (- 10.90 to + 16.68 %) among men and women respectively. CONCLUSIONS The results showed that the body fat estimated by BMI varies significantly from body fat estimated from BIA. Background: Childhood obesity is a serious public health concern in both developed and developing countries. The children share food habits, physical activity habits etc. with their parents either in term of genetic or environmental influences, which affects the body mass index of the children. The objective of this study was to study the association of parental overweight/obesity with overweight/obesity in the children.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a government aided school in Nagpur during January 2016 to April 2016. Data was collected by a self-administered questionnaire which had information regarding the socio demographic characteristics like age, sex, socio economic status etc. Anthropometric measurements like height and weight of the children and their parents were measured. Necessary permissions were sought before the start of the study.Results: We found a significant association (p<0.01) between the obesity and overweight status of father and mother with the body mass index of their children with an odds ratio of 2.49 (1.69 to 3.66) and 2.90 (1.98 to 4.25) respectively. If both the parents are overweight/obese then the odds of their being overweight/obese is 3.00 (1.93-4.68). If either of parents is overweight/ obese, then the odds ratio is 3.10 (2.12-4.54).Conclusions: Stronger and significant associations were found between the overweight and obesity of the parents and their children. A significantly positive correlation was found between the body mass index of parents and body mass index of their children.
