VARIATION IN THE NUMBER OF CORPORA LUTEA AND IN THE NUMBER AND SIZE OF 6-DAY BLASTOCYSTS IN RABBITS SUBJECTED TO SUPEROVULATION TREATMENT

SUMMARY The numbers of corpora lutea and the numbers and sizes of 6-day blastocysts have been studied in rabbits, widely varying in ages and weights, that had been subjected to a superovulation treatment. For all does, the average value of each characteristic on the left sides of the animals was similar to that on the right, the average left-to-right difference being not significant. An average of thirty-one corpora lutea and thirteen blastocysts per doe was obtained. Maximum numbers per doe were one hundred and fifty-three corpora lutea and seventy-three blastocysts. Average blastocyst diameter was 2·203 mm, the average volume being 6·780 mm3. There was a fairly large variation from one doe to another in the relative numbers of corpora lutea (or in the relative numbers of blastocysts) on the two sides of the animal. The number of blastocysts per doe was positively related to the number of corpora lutea. The number of corpora lutea per doe was inversely related to the age of the doe. An inverse relation between the number of blastocysts and the age of the doe was presumably indirect, being mediated by the number of corpora lutea. All these relationships were highly significant. There was no demonstrable relationship between the number of corpora lutea and the weight of the doe. No firm evidence was found for a direct relationship (independent of weight and number of corpora lutea) between the number of blastocysts and age, or for any relationship with weight. Diameter of blastocysts seemed more appropriate than volume as a measure of size suitable for analysis. Transformations tending to give linear relationships between variables have been studied. Size differences between blastocysts within the same uterine horn formed a large source of variation, probably not attributable to the superovulation procedure. Differences in blastocyst size between uterine horns within does were significant but introduced little extra variation. Mean blastocyst size varied greatly from one doe to another, but none of this variation was related significantly to known factors such as the weight of the dam or sire, or the age of the dam. The experiment appeared to be fairly sensitive in detecting these relationships. The relationships found between the number of corpora lutea and the age or weight of the doe can be reconciled with the previous literature. The lack of demonstrable connexion between blastocyst size and the weight of dam or sire is in conflict with the results of other authors, and no specific reconciliation can be made. It is suggested that uniformity in age is more important than uniformity in weight when test animals are selected for assay of follicle stimulating hormone under conditions comparable with those of the present work.

Bovine uterine horns with both ovaries containing a corpus luteum (CL) were compared for progesterone (P4) and oxytocin (OT) concentrations during the luteal phase of the estrous cycle. Uterine tissue samples from five Holstein cows with bilateral CL obtained from the slaughterhouse were used for this study. No significant difference was observed in P4 and OT levels in the right and left horns with corpora lutea in both ovaries. The data clearly indicate that both sides of the uterine horn having a functional CL are exposed to similar levels of P4 and OT, supporting the hypothesis that luteal products are delivered locally to the uterus. Embryo implantation begins when the blastocyst both assumes a fixed position in the uterus and establishes a more intimate relationship with the endometrium. Successful implantation depends upon hormonal synchronization and development and the receptivity of the endometrium. CD44 is a cell surface molecule that has been implicated in the initial attachment of the embryo. The aim of this work was to study the hormonal levels of P4 in three groups of animals which have a normal pregnancy or an induced reduction in the number of implants. Twelve adult New Zealand does (n = 12) were naturally inseminated with a buck of proven fertility. Blood samples were obtained daily during 20 days of pregnancy. Hormonal determinations were performed by enzyme immunoassay. Animals were divided into three groups: group A (n = 4): control animals; group B (n = 4): endometriosis was surgically induced in the right horn a month before the animal was mated; and group C (n = 4): animals received an injection of 20 micrograms of anti-CD44 in the right horn via mid-ventral laparotomy on Day 6.5 post-coitum (0.5 mL each, from the ovarian end to the cervix). Each animal served as her own control with the left uterine horn receiving 0.5 mL of saline. Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA.The number of corpora lutea was similar in all treatments. No statistical differences were found comparing CLs in the right/left ovary. In group A, a mean of 3.4 ± 0.47 (mean ± SE) implants was found in the right horn while the mean in the left side was 4.6 ± 0.81. In group B, a marked reduction in implantation sites was found, with 1.8 ± 0.60 and 4.66 ± 0.84 on the right and left horns, respectively. With anti-CD44 injected into the uterine horn (Group C), a mean of 0.12 implant was present in the right uterine horn compared with 3.6 implants on the left side (P < 0.001). Progesterone levels from Days 1 to 10 are shown in the following table (mean ± SE). Comparisons in day values are not statistically significant P > 0.05. After Day 10 the levels of progesterone were similar in all groups. The results showed an increase of progesterone levels in group B; this could be due to endometriosis and not to the number of implants. The results in the CD44 group reveal that progesterone profiles were similar to those in the control group, and we can conclude that the reduced number of implants found in group C did not affect the progesterone levels. ABSTRACT At least half of one uterine horn is required for normal regression of the corpora lutea in the pseudopregnant hamster. Although removal of any portion of the uterus slightly increased the duration of pseudopregnancy, only unilateral hysterectomy or unilateral hysterectomy and removal of the contralateral ovary did so significantly (P < 0.05). The presence of a sterile horn did not influence foetal development in the contralateral horn. No differences were observed in corpus luteum size between the right and left ovaries of animals unilaterally hysterectomized or unilaterally pregnant. Normal oestrous cycle activity continued following transplantation of the ovaries to the cheek pouches and pseudopregnancies were of normal duration. It is concluded from these observations that the amount of uterine tissue is of greater importance in regulating luteal regression in the hamster than its anatomical relationship to the ovary.

SUMMARY Either one or two 60-h morulae were transferred to one uterine horn of Polish, Dutch or Strain A rabbits in which the mean number of ovulations was 4·3, 6·4 and 10·8. The pregnancy rate, as determined by palpation on day 10, varied from 45–65% (mean 53%) in recipients of one egg to 69–71% with two eggs. Only 20% of the does carrying one foetus maintained pregnancy to term compared with 87% of those with two implants. If pregnancy failed this usually occurred between days 15 and 20. In a further experiment, in which additional eggs were transferred to the contralateral horn, it was shown that all single conceptuses were inherently capable of surviving to term. It is concluded that irrespective of breed and ovulation rate, two conceptuses are normally required to prevent regression of corpora lutea on about day 17. Treatment with follicle-stimulating hormone in mid-pregnancy or removal of the barren uterine horn on day 13 failed to maintain pregnancies involving only one conceptus.

The existence of the COVID-19 outbreak has an impact on all sectors of life, one of which is in the education sector, many schools are forced to dismiss their students and teaching and learning activities are carried out online. the transition of Geography teaching and learning activities at MA PPPI Miftahussalam Banyumas from face to face to online creates new problems in learning so that a special strategy is needed in this learning. Although online learning is not effective for achieving learning goals, the teacher must be able to make new innovations so that learning objectives can be achieved. This study uses a qualitative description method by observing the behavior of students when online learning takes place. Learning online Geography class XII at MA PPPI Miftahussalam Banyumas uses educational games. This study aims to find out the right media in learning Geography class XII during the COVID-19 pandemic at MA PPPI Miftahussalam Banyumas. The results of this study showed that 76 students of class XII MA PPPI Miftahussalam Banyumas who had taken the test showed an average value> 8.00. This shows satisfactory results.

Professor van Biervliet has now completed his very careful study of right-sidedness and left-sidedness (already summarised in the Journal) by a still more careful investigation of ambidextrous persons. In the first place by photography, according to a special and uniform method, he finds that in the ambidextrous the two sides of the face, as well as the arms, are fairly alike, the face being slightly more developed on the right side, as among left-sided people, but not in so marked a degree. They occupy much the same position, indeed, throughout the investigation. When compared with right-sided and left-sided people as regards sensory acuteness, it is found that while the right-sided have predominant sensory acuteness on the right side, both the left-sided and the ambidextrous can see further, hear better, possess more acute tactile and muscular sense, on the left side, so that ambidexterity may be regarded as a variety of left-sidedness of more symmetrical anatomical type. In all respects the ambidextrous almost or quite resembled the left-sided.

Researched how the multi-pipeline processor accelerates the running of thread ,found that when the branch predictor facing the random branch instruction, the hit rate will become very low, so bring out a new method that using the free pipeline to accelerate the running of branch instruction. If the right prediction from branch predictor is less than 70% and there is a free pipeline, then using two pipelines to run the two sides of a branch instruction at the same time. In order to test the new method, the HLA (High Level architecture) architecture-based simulation system is established, the results show that the new method can really reduce the time when processing the random branch instructions.

AbstractThe present study was carried out to describe the reproductive system of a single adult female wolf, including the uterine horns, cervix, ovaries and follicles. The cumulus oocytes complexes (COCs) and oocytes were also examined. The results showed that the size of each ovary was about 9 × 6 mm with an average of weight of 461.3 mg. The uterus was Y-shaped, and the length of each uterine horn was 14 cm. The distance from the cervix to the bifurcation of the uterine horns was also 14 cm. The left ovary had two large follicles on the surface with a diameter more than 4 mm, while the right ovary had no protuberant follicles. The ovaries were covered with a lot of fat, and were well developed. The COCs derived from the antral follicles were dark, and the nuded oocytes had a dark cytoplasm. The diameter of the oocytes removed from the antral follicles was 116.8 μm on average. The ovaries had a smooth surface and all the follicles were under the surface except for two big follicles on the left ovary. Histological examination of the ovaries by haematoxylin and eosin staining demonstrated that the primordial, primary, preantral and antral follicles were scattered in the cortex, the medulla was abundant with blood vessels. This study preliminarily reveals the features of the wolf reproductive system and the structure of its oocytes and ovaries, which might be indicative for further study and the protection of the species.

The height of the maxillary alveolar ridge can be measured using panoramic radiography. The decline occurred because the height of the alveolar ridge undergoes slow physiological resorption due to the absence of mechanical stimulus. The purpose of this research is to know the difference and the average height of the maxillary alveolar ridge in edentulous and dentate women using panoramic radiography. This study is an analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. A total sample of 40 women, edentulous and dentate has been measured. Measurements were made by measuring the distance between the lowest point of the infraorbital ridge and alveolar crest maxilla on the incisor point, right and left premolar, right and left molar. A statistical test is done using independent t-test. The results showed that the average value of a dentate women sample is greater than edentulous. The average value obtained by the dentate sample is greatest in incisor point by 37,57mm± 3,34mm and the smallest at the right molar point by 33,87mm ± 2,81mm. The average value obtained by the edentulous sample is greatest in incisor point by 35,30mm ± 2,79mm and the smallest at the right molar point by 31,84mm ± 3,85mm. It can be concluded that there is a significant difference in the height of the maxillary alveolar ridge on an edentulous sample and dentate, except the right molar teeth. The average height of the maxillary alveolar ridge in an edentulous sample is 33,35mm ± 3,43mm, and the dentate sample is 35,66mm ± 3,21mm.
