Aim: To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of telerehabilitation for various musculoskeletal disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of patients who underwent musculoskeletal telerehabilitation at a well-established physiotherapy centre in Central India between 1st April – 30th June 2020. A team of two experienced physiotherapists conducted one-on-one video-based physiotherapy sessions for every patient. The main outcome measures included pain reduction using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), functional goals achieved, and patient satisfaction. The effectiveness of treatment was determined based on the change in NPRS scores using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The relationship of percent change in NPRS and the functional score as well as the patient feedback score was obtained using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results: Of 77 patients who received telerehabilitation during the study period, 31 patients undergoing musculoskeletal rehabilitation who satisfied the eligibility criteria were included. There was a significant reduction in NPRS scores after rehabilitation (P < 0.0001). However, the median number of sessions and the baseline NPRS scores differed insignificantly for various patient characteristics. The distribution of functional score and change in NPRS demonstrated a moderately positive and significant correlation (P = 0.001). The relationship of patient feedback score with the change in NPRS was low positive. Conclusion: Telerehabilitation resulted in significant pain reduction among patients with various musculoskeletal disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic. A positive correlation was demonstrated between change in NPRS scores, patient-reported functional goals, and patient satisfaction. Hence, telerehabilitation provided by a trained physiotherapist can be an effective approach for conservative management of musculoskeletal pain. KEY WORDS: Telerehabilitation, Musculoskeletal disorder, Back pain, COVID-19.

Objective: Although patient satisfaction is increasingly used to rate hospitals, it is unclear how patient satisfaction is associated with health outcomes. We sought to define the relationship of self-reported patient satisfaction and health outcomes. Design: Retrospective cross-sectional analysis using regression analyses and generalized linear modeling. Setting: Utilizing the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey Database (2010-2014), patients who had responses to survey questions related to satisfaction were identified. Participants: Among the 9166 patients, representing 106 million patients, satisfaction was rated as optimal (28.2%), average (61.1%), and poor (10.7%). Main Outcome Measures: We sought to define the relationship of self-reported patient satisfaction and health outcomes. Results: Patients who were younger, male, black/African American, with Medicaid insurance, as well as patients with lower socioeconomic status were more likely to report poor satisfaction (all P < .001). In the adjusted model, physical health score was not associated with an increased odds of poor satisfaction (1.42 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.88-2.28); however, patients with a poor mental health score or ≥2 emergency department visits were more likely to report poor overall satisfaction (3.91, 95% CI: 2.34-6.5; 2.24, 95% CI: 1.48-3.38, respectively). Conclusion: Poor satisfaction was associated with certain unmodifiable patient-level characteristics, as well as mental health scores. These data suggest that patient satisfaction is a complex metric that can be affected by more than provider performance.

One indicator of hospital services is patient satisfaction related to nurses caring behaviour. The caring behaviour of nurses who provide nursing services in the Emergency Department is expected to increase the satisfaction of nursing services. The purpose of this study was to study the relationship between nurses caring behaviour with patient satisfaction receiving nursing services at the Emergency Department of Catholic Hospital of Budi Rahayu Blitar. The research design was cross sectional. Sample sizes were 80 patients who received nursing services at the Emergency Department were selected by purposive sampling. The study variables were nurse caring behaviour and patient satisfaction. Data were collected using a questionnaire. Analysis using the Spearman rank test. The analysis results obtained p = 0.000 and r = 0.618, which means there is a strong positive relationship between nurses caring behaviour with patient satisfaction. Suggestion, nurses maintain and even increase caring behaviour, especially communication skills in the orientation phase.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationship of two distinct variants of dispositional shame (internal and external shame) with collaborative, purpose-driven aspects of the patient–provider relationship (working alliance) and patient satisfaction. The aim of this research was to conduct a preliminary investigation into the relevance of dispositional shame in a general healthcare population. Design/methodology/approach In total, 127 community members (mean age 25.9 years) who reported that they had regularly seen a GP over the past year were recruited at an Australian university. Participants were asked to reflect on their relationship with their GP, and completed instruments assessing various domains of shame, as well as working alliance and patient satisfaction. Findings Non-parametric correlations were examined to determine the direction and strength of relationships, as well as conducting mediation analyses where applicable. Small, negative correlations were evident between external shame and working alliance. Both external and internal shame measures were also negatively correlated with patient satisfaction. Finally, the relationship of external shame to patient satisfaction was partially mediated by working alliance. Practical implications Both the reported quality of patient–provider working alliance, and level of patient satisfaction are related to levels of dispositional shame in patients, and working alliance may act as a mediator for this relationship. Originality/value The findings from this preliminary study suggest that internal and external shame are important factors to consider in the provision of medical care to maximise the quality of patient experience and working alliance.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Patient-reported experience is often used as a measure for quality of care, but no reports on patient satisfaction after cranial neurosurgery exist. OBJECTIVE: To study the association of overall patient satisfaction and surgical outcome and to evaluate the applicability of overall patient satisfaction as a proxy for quality of care in elective cranial neurosurgery. METHODS: We conducted an observational study on the relationship of overall patient satisfaction at 30 postoperative days with surgical and functional outcome (modified Rankin Scale [mRS] score) in a prospective, consecutive, and unselected cohort of 418 adult elective craniotomy patients enrolled between December 2011 and December 2012 at Helsinki University Hospital, Helsinki, Finland. RESULTS: Postoperative overall (subjective and objective) morbidity was present in 194 (46.4%) patients; yet almost 94% of all study patients reported high overall satisfaction. Low overall patient satisfaction at 30 days was not associated with postoperative major morbidity in elective cranial neurosurgery. Dependent functional status (mRS score ≥3) at 30 days, minor infections, poor postoperative subjective overall health status, and patient-reported severe symptoms (double vision, poor balance) may contribute to unsatisfactory patient experience. CONCLUSION: Overall patient satisfaction with elective cranial neurosurgery is high. Even 9 of 10 patients with postoperative major morbidity rated high overall patient satisfaction at 30 days. Overall patient satisfaction may merely reflect patient experience and subjective postoperative health status, and therefore it is a poor proxy for quality of care in elective cranial neurosurgery.

There is a considerable amount of literature on leadership, particularly as it relates to organizations, government, and the military. However, educators and psychologists know considerably less about early precursors of leadership, how leadership develops in youth, possible gender differences, and the relationship of leadership, intelligence and creativity. A global consensus exists that leaders are needed and that we shouldn't delay the early development of leadership skills. The authors propose a model to enhance creative leadership and introduce a teacher-completed rating scale, the Gifted Rating Scales to help accomplish this. As demonstrated, there are possibilities to detect early creative and intellectual giftedness among children and youngsters in the classrooms and expectations to move from a basic level of competence to reach an elite or expert level in any field, facilitating the emergence of leadership.

ObjectiveThe objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between pre-treatment absolute neutrophil count and clinical outcomes in patients with uterine carcinosarcoma.MethodsIn an Institutional Review Board approved, retrospective cohort study of 103 patients with uterine carcinosarcoma, the pre-treatment absolute neutrophil count data were obtained from the medical records, along with clinical, pathologic, treatment, and outcome data. Kaplan–Meier survival estimates were calculated and compared by the log rank test. Univariable and multivariable Cox proportional hazard regression models were used to examine the relationship of pre-treatment absolute neutrophil count with progression-free survival and overall survival.ResultsUterine carcinosarcoma patients in the highest quartile of pre-treatment absolute neutrophil count had significantly reduced progression-free survival (p<0.001, log rank test), and overall survival (p<0.001, log rank test), compared with patients in the lower absolute neutrophil count quartiles. On multivariable analysis, high absolute neutrophil count was an independent poor prognostic factor for disease recurrence, HR 2.97 (95% CI 1.35 to 6.53, p=0.007) for highest versus lowest quartile absolute neutrophil count, and for mortality, HR 4.43 (95% CI 1.64 to 12.00, p= 0.003).ConclusionsHigh pre-treatment absolute neutrophil count is an independent poor prognostic factor in patients with uterine carcinosarcoma and may be useful as a potential biomarker in clinical trials. The mechanistic relationship of neutrophilia and uterine carcinosarcoma progression merits further investigation.

Abstract The dental healthcare marketplace is consumer driven. The astute practice manager monitors the effectiveness of patient care in terms of both the actual dental service rendered and the process used to deliver the service. One mechanism that can be helpful is the use of a patient satisfaction survey to determine the status of the relationship between the dental practice and patient's of record. This article presents a perspective on the importance of patient feedback as well as a sample survey form that may be useful to the practicing dental professional.
