Objective. To determine the attitudes, beliefs and knowledge of talented young athletes residing in Gauteng regarding prohibited performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs) and anti-doping rules and regulations.Methods. This was a survey study using a quantitative research approach. South African TuksSport academy athletes at the High Performance Centre, University of Pretoria, and competitive high-school athletes at four private high schools in Gauteng completed the survey. A selfdetermined, structured questionnaire was used to establish the attitudes, beliefs and knowledge of the athletes.Results. A total of 346 (208 males, 138 females) athletes, mean (standard deviation) age 16.9 (1.4) years participated in the survey. According to this survey, 3.9% of the athletes in this survey admitted to using a prohibited PED and more than 14.0% of the athletes said they would consider using a prohibited PED if they knew they would not get caught. Ambition (46.0%) and emotional pressure (22.5%) were the primary reasons why the athletes would consider using prohibited PEDs. Even though coaches appeared to be one of the main sources of information (on PEDs and anti-doping rules), only 42.1% of the athletes felt that they were well informed.Conclusion. Controlling doping by means of testing is important. However, it may be necessary to put more emphasis on changing attitudes towards doping and implementing additional educational programmes.

The creative education system is introduced in different stream of Bangladesh education towards developing the ingenious capability of students. The study is an endeavour that tries to know the possibilities and difficulties in the creative education system at the secondary level in Bangladesh from the teachers’ and students’ perceptions. It is an exploratory type of research that used primary and secondary sources of information to look for the problems, underlying the system. To collect primary data, Ambarkhana Girls’ High School & College; and Osmani Medical High School of Sylhet Sadar have been chosen as the study area. From the second tier of the chosen institutions; 60 students and 20 teachers are selected using a systematic random sampling method. The social survey method has been implied in this research and data collected through face to face interview method; along with a few well responded and informed respondents’ in-depth interview. Collected data from the respondents are then analyzed through a mixed research approach. The study findings reveal that most of the students signify the system enjoyable to study, memorizing reduced for textbooks learning, and appearance in examination turned easier. While others find the system confusing, difficult to understand questions and answer in examination hall within limited time. Besides, the system reciprocally encourages students to enrol in coaching centres for a vague idea about question pattern; lack of linkage between book and exam questions; and also, to get good marks. Findings from teachers' evaluation depict that though they welcome the system they are not well prepared to assimilate the system because of inadequate training facilities, absence of inquisitive seeking awareness program, dependence on the readymade question paper, challenges exerted on them to give students attention and proper guidance. The study recommends introducing well-researched textbooks avoiding mistakes, improving integrative classroom learning, controlling coaching business, increasing training facilities for teachers, providing awareness programs to make effective the creative education system in a competitive world of education.

AbstractThis research inquiry was conducted to probe the consequence of test anxiety on students’ academic performance. The research design was descriptive, while the quantitative research approach adopted for the purpose of collecting and interpreting the desired information.  504 students (252 male and 252 female students) of the 10th class were selected as sample from nine cities of Punjab.  The Westside Test Anxiety Scale for measuring test anxiety which was prepared by Richard Driscoll, Ph.D. available on the American Test Anxiety Association web was used to gauge the test anxiety of the students.  For statistical investigation and interpretation, Pearson r was exercised.  The findings of the study supported the research hypothesis as a significant correlation (r= -.072*) in students with higher anxiety and their academic performance and in students with low anxiety with their academic performance (r= -.083*) was found.  The study also hypothesized that as the degree of anxiety raisin the level of academic performance would decline and vice versa.  The value of Pearson r showed a significant connection between test anxiety and academic achievement/ performance as p< .05.  Thus the null hypotheses of the study were rejected.

The economic viability and success of a hotel depends on the optimisation of all resources, including Human Resources (HR). Absenteeism is an occurrence that can have a significant negative impact on optimising HR in South African hotels in the Gauteng Province. The objective of this study is to identify the factors that contribute to employee absenteeism, as well as describing the hotel employers’ perceptions of employee absenteeism. A quantitative research approach was followed in this study. A survey questionnaire was developed in order to collect data from 13 establishments, with a 3-star to 5-star grading, in the Gauteng Province. The findings reveal that absenteeism is mainly due to family responsibilities including childcare, other causes identified were strikes, fatigue, transport problem and genuine illness. It is evident from the findings that delivery of quality services can be affected negatively, due to abuse of sick leave and the cost associated with absenteeism. The results of this research project will contribute by creating an awareness of the negative impact that absenteeism has on the hotel and what employers could do to improve employee attendance.

The article characterizes the medical tourism subsector in Bogota and Cartagena to detect potential service offers to foreign patients. We performed a comparative analysis between these two cities to identify the weaknesses, opportunities, strengths, and threats they have. The study has a quantitative research approach using primary sources of information to characterize the subsector in these cities. In Bogota, the quality of health care services, specialized infrastructure, the accreditation of some health care institutions, and the formation of the health care cluster stand out as competitive elements. Meanwhile, Cartagena shows attractive prices but has scarce health care infrastructure and health professionals, low levels of bilingual proficiency, and increased local health service needs. We conclude that there is a need to strengthen the subsector’s competitiveness in both cities, as the trend points to the growth of this type of tourism in the coming years.

This study was conducted to test whether there are age and gender differences in the criteria that high school athletes use to evaluate their ability in sport contexts. To test this issue, 435 high school athletes from a variety of sports were administered the Sport Competence information Questionnaire which provides a measure of preference for 10 competence information sources. A 2 × 2 (Gender × Age Level) MANOVA revealed that older adolescents were more apt to use self-comparison/internal information, goal achievement, and sport attraction/enjoyment to judge their sport ability while younger athletes were more dependent on the evaluation of peers. In addition, females scored higher than males on the use of self-comparison/internal information and on evaluative feedback from significant others. In contrast, males scored higher on the use of competitive outcomes and speed/ease of learning to evaluate personal sport competence. The results indicate that high school athletes do vary in the sources of information they use to judge their sport competence, and that gender and age can account for a significant amount of that variation.

This study was to measure the Van Hiele’s levels of geometric thinking attained by Ghanaian Junior High School Form 3 (JHS 3) students before writing the BECE. A quantitative research approach was employed in the study and a sample of 105 students randomly selected from the four schools. The results showed that 22 students (20.95%) of the students could not attain any VHG level at all, that means they were in level 0. 65 students (61.91%) of the students attained Van Hiele’s level 1, 17 (16.19%) reached level 2, and only 1 (0.95%) reached level 3. An independent t-test yielded no statistically significant difference between public and private school students in their geometric thinking levels t(103) = 0.926, p > 0.05. The findings indicated that most of the Ghanaian JHS graduates do not attain satisfactory levels of VHGT. Recommendations are made for improving the teaching of geometry.

The study was conducted because it wanted to provide information about student activities in basketball extracurricular activities for junior high school students in Bangkalan Regency during the COVID19 pandemic. This study uses a quantitative research approach using survey methods with questionnaires or questionnaires. This study aims to 5 schools that have been surveyed with 91 students as respondents. The instrument by collecting data from respondents is a questionnaire using a Likert scale with 10 statements compiled. From the results of the study, students still carried out basketball extracurricular activities even though it was still a COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with the coach's directions including physical activities and movement techniques. Based on the results of the junior high school basketball extracurricular survey research in Bangkalan Regency during the COVID-19 pandemic, it can be interpreted that students are still doing physical activities and playing basketball and coaches are still providing training directions to students who take basketball extracurricular activities even though it is still a pandemic. This study examined the beliefs and sources of information regarding muscle development among 742 high school athletes in one rural county. About 40% of the athletes stated that muscle development was very important and 50% said it was somewhat important. Most of them recognized the dangers of steroids but still thought these were important in muscle development. A majority also thought nutritional and genetic factors were important. Physicians were seen as providing the most accurate information about muscle development, followed by coaches and trainers. Understanding the athletes’ beliefs and information sources about muscle development may be useful in dispelling misconceptions and providing education on the topic.

The implementation of tourism activities not only has a purpose for traveling or entertainment. In education, tourism can have a function as a learning activity carried out by someone in their visit to a tourist attraction location. This study aims to determine the effect of organizing an art education tour on the interest in learning art for high school students. This study uses a quantitative research approach with a sample of 84 students who took part in an art education tourism program held at UPI (Indonesian University of Education). This study took a sample using total sampling techniques in which all respondents were taken into consideration the analysis of research data. Data collection used in this study is to use a closed questionnaire in the form of a scale. Research data analysis uses simple regression test data analysis techniques to find out whether there is an influence of art education tourism activities on high school students’ interest in learning art at school. The results of the study can be concluded that educational tours have an influence on high school students’ interest in learning art; this is indicated from the results of the coefficient of determination (R Square) of 0.479, which implies that the influence of educational programs on the dependent variable (interest in learning art) is 47.9%. The results of the analysis show how much the independent variable (X) can affect the dependent variable (Y).
