The study analyzes the trends in the Indian poultry products’ exports during the pre- and the post-WTO periods using the Hodrick-Prescott (HP) filtered data. The Simpson Diversity Index (SDI) was used to measure the export diversity, whereas the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) and the Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage (RSCA) ratios assessed the competitiveness of poultry products in the international market. India has been highly competitive in the exports of hen-eggs-in-shell and eggs-dried, whereas India needs to maintain its competitive position with respect to eggs-liquid and live-ducks. India could not retain its competitive position in live chicken exports due to the rising production cost coupled with the onslaught of the Avian Influenza (AI) in the recent years. Spreading of the AI put a heavy toll on poultry exports, especially chicken meat and eggs-liquid due to a complete ban on Indian poultry products imposed by many of the importing countries. The SDI indicated that poultry products’ exports were more diversified during the post-WTO period. On the basis of the available data on the average ad-valorem applied duties faced by the Most Favoured Nations (MFN), the producers’ price in various countries for chicken meat and eggs (hen-egg-in shell) and shipping charges from India to various countries, the lucrative export destinations for such poultry products were identified.

Abstract Background Campylobacter jejuni is the leading cause of bacterial gastroenteritis worldwide and the main source of infection is contaminated chicken meat. Although this important human pathogen is an obligate microaerophile, it must survive atmospheric oxygen conditions to allow transmission from contaminated chicken meat to humans. It is becoming increasingly evident that formation of biofilm plays a key role in the survival of this organism for extended periods on poultry products. We have recently demonstrated a novel inducible model for the study of adherent C. jejuni biofilm formation under aerobic conditions. By taking advantage of supercoiling mediated gene regulation, incubation of C. jejuni with subinhibitory concentrations of the Gyrase B inhibitor novobiocin was shown to promote the consistent formation of metabolically active adherent biofilm. Results In this study, we implement this model in conjunction with the fluorescent markers: TAMRA (live cells) and SytoX (dead cells, eDNA) to develop a novel systematic high-content imaging approach and describe how it can be implemented to gain quantifiable information about the integrity and extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) composition of adherent C. jejuni biofilm in aerobic conditions. We show that this produces a model with a consistent, homogenous biofilm that can be induced and used to screen a range of inhibitors of biofilm adherence and matrix formation. Conclusions This model allows for the first time a high throughput analysis of C. jejuni biofilms which will be invaluable in enabling researchers to develop mechanisms to disrupt these biofilms and reduce the viability of these bacteria under aerobic conditions.

Thermal inactivation of the H5N1 high pathogenicity avian influenza (HPAI) virus strain A/chicken/Korea/ES/2003 (Korea/03) was quantitatively measured in thigh and breast meat harvested from infected chickens. The Korea/03 titers were recorded as the mean embryo infectious dose (EID50) and were 108.0 EID50/g in uncooked thigh samples and 107.5 EID50/g in uncooked breast samples. Survival curves were constructed for Korea/03 in chicken thigh and breast meat at 1°C intervals for temperatures of 57 to 61°C. Although some curves had a slightly biphasic shape, a linear model provided a fair-to-good fit at all temperatures, with R2 values of 0.85 to 0.93. Stepwise linear regression revealed that meat type did not contribute significantly to the regression model and generated a single linear regression equation for z-value calculations and D-value predictions for Korea/03 in both meat types. The z-value and the upper limit of the 95% confidence interval for the z-value were 4.64 and 5.32°C, respectively. From the lowest temperature to the highest, the predicted D-values and the upper limits of their 95% prediction intervals (conservative D-values) for 57 to 61°C were 241.2 and 321.1 s, 146.8 and 195.4 s, 89.3 and 118.9 s, 54.4 and 72.4 s, and 33.1 and 44.0 s. D-values and conservative D-values predicted for higher temperatures were 0.28 and 0.50 s for 70°C and 0.041 and 0.073 s for 73.9°C. Calculations with the conservative D-values predicted that cooking chicken meat according to current U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service time-temperature guidelines will inactivate Korea/03 in a heavily contaminated meat sample, such as those tested in this study, with a large margin of safety.

Ducks are widely farmed poultry animals, because of its large population, the disease is also caused a lot. In avian influenza disease is an infectious animal disease caused by a virus and can infect humans. Avian invluenza is also a cause of decreased quality of meat and eggs, can even cause death in ducks. Disease in ducks is difficult to know because people have no prior experience. Communities and breeders find it difficult to take appropriate action on ducks affected by avian influenza so that they can be fatal. During 2012 - 2017 there were 1856 cases of bird flu in Indonesia. In October 2017 there were 3 cases of avian invluenza. Where 900 ducks died. From the explanation above, an expert system is needed to diagnose avian influenza. This system can help ordinary people and farmers who do not have experience in dealing with avian influenza. Disease data and symptoms of avian influenza that will be entered into this expert system can be obtained from interviews with experts and see references of knowledge about duck symptoms. So that this expert system can help in dealing with AI disease. In testing the validity, the calculation of the system manually and from expert diagnosis are the same. So that this application is feasible to use for the community and breeders.

Bandrek Hanjuang merupakan minuman kemasan khas dari Jawa Barat yang sudah dipasarkan baik di dalam negeri maupun internasional. Perubahan manajemen pada perusahaan ini berdampak pada peningkatan penjualan produk yang dihasilkannya. Disisi lain, keterbatasan lahan yang dimiliki membuat perusahaan belum mampu memastikan ketersediaan bahan baku seiring dengan meningkatnya kebutuhan terhadap bahan baku tersebut. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis kelayakan usaha produksi bandrek menggunakan dua alternatif pengadaan bahan baku jahe merah yaitu memproduksi sendiri atau membeli dari luar menggunakan analisis R-C Rasio. Penelitian dilakukan di CV. Cihanjuang Inti Teknik dari bulan Maret-September 2015. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif, yaitu penelitian yang diarahkan untuk memberikan informasi secara sistematis dan akurat mengenai objek penelitian serta menganalisis berdasarkan data yang diperoleh. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa dengan jumlah pendapatan yang sama, proses produksi dengan alternatif pengadaan jahe merah dengan memproduksi sendiri memiliki nilai R/C yang lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan membeli dari luar. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa proses produksi dengan alternatif pengadaan jahe merah dengan memproduksi sendiri memiliki biaya produksi yang lebih rendah sehingga memiliki keuntungan yang lebih besar. Oleh karena itu, proses produksi dengan alternatif pengadaan jahe merah dengan memproduksi sendiri dinilai lebih layak untuk direalisasikan. Kata kunci : bandrek, jahe merah, kelayakan usaha, pengadaan bahan baku, R/C rasio Bandrek Hanjuang is a special instant drink from West Java which has been in the national and international market. However, due to the increase of demand, the company was not be able to provide the dried red ginger as raw material, due to the limited resources. The aim of this research is to analyze the properness of bandrek production using two ways of making; self-producing or buying from other party using analysis ratio R-C. This research was conducted in CV. Cihanjuang Inti Teknik from March to September 2015. The method used in this research is qualitative descriptive method; that is; a research which is conducted to give systematic information concerning the object of the research and to analyze from the obtained data. The finding of this research showed that with equal income, self-producing of dried red ginger had higher R/C value compared to buying from other party. This illustrates that the self-producing required lower production cost, therefore the company is able to get higher income. In conclusion, self-producing of dried red ginger is likely more preferable to be conducted. Keywords : bandrek, red ginger, properness, raw material making, R/C ratio

Indonesia is one of the country's largest Coconut producer and exporter in the world market. The management efforts of Indonesia coconut not optimal, coconut export is still largely in the form of primary products, a type of derivative products coconut produced Indonesia is still limited. But in general, this research aims to analyze the Export Competitiveness of coconut Indonesia in international markets, specifically aims to analyze the position and competitiveness of Indonesia coconut commodities in the international market. Methods of data analysis using Trade Specialization Index (TSI), the analysis Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA), and the Constant Market Share analysis (CMS). The results showed that during the period of 2005-2016, the development of supply and demand are relatively unstable and likely to rise. TSI values during the period of 2005-2016 have the value positive that shows that Indonesia is a country exporting coconut and belongs into the categories of very mature in the international market, indicated by the average value of the TSI of 1.00. The value of the RCA during the period of 2005-2016 have a value above 1 indicating that Indonesia Coconut has a comparative advantage for the commodity. While the analysis results in CMS during the period of 2005-2016 based on the four effects shows that the competitiveness of coconut Indonesia influenced by standard growth effects and efficient distribution where the coconut export growth in Indonesia is affected by the growth of coconut import world.  


In the third chapter, the authors were studying the competitiveness and comparative advantage of agricultural products and products of processed food sector of Serbia on international market. Readers will be familiar with the foreign trade exchange of agricultural products and products of processed food sector in the period 2005-2015. They will find out for which products the indices of comparative advantage of export have a positive value and will understand the connection with a surplus in foreign trade exchange of agricultural products and products of processed food sector. Readers will be informed on products that prevail in export, i.e. will perceive the export potential of Serbian food industry. They will see which sectors aren't sufficiently propulsive and need to provide an adequate support in the future. Readers will be familiar with developmental problems of agri-food sector of other countries and will understand the significance of transfer of knowledge and experience in the development of processed food sector of Serbia.

The aim of the paper is to present the position of meat and dairy industries in the Polish agri-food trade in 2010-2016. The paper analyzes the changes in the geographical and commodity structure of trade in selected products in relation to the entire agri-food sector as well as evaluates their competitive position based on the comparative advantage (RCA) indicator. Analyzes has shown that despite import restrictions, the meat sector is crucial for the Polish food industry. It corresponds to about 20% of exports and generates 1/3 of surplus in trade in agri-food products. The fastest growing sector in Poland is the poultry industry, which has gradually increased its comparative advantages in analyzed period.

High-pathogenicity avian influenza viruses (HPAIV) cause severe systemic disease with high mortality in chickens. Isolation of HPAIV from the internal contents of chicken eggs has been reported, and this is cause for concern because HPAIV can be spread by movement of poultry products during marketing and trade activity. This study presents thermal inactivation data for the HPAIV strain A/chicken/PA/1370/83 (H5N2) (PA/83) in dried egg white with a moisture content (7.5%) similar to that found in commercially available spray-dried egg white products. The 95% upper confidence limits for D-values calculated from linear regression of the survival curves at 54.4, 60.0, 65.5, and 71.1°C were 475.4, 192.2, 141.0, and 50.1 min, respectively. The line equation y = [0.05494 × °C] + 5.5693 (root mean square error = 0.0711) was obtained by linear regression of experimental D-values versus temperature. Conservative predictions based on the thermal inactivation data suggest that standard industry pasteurization protocols would be very effective for HPAIV inactivation in dried egg white. For example, these calculations predict that a 7-log reduction would take only 2.6 days at 54.4°C.
