Economic efficiency in farming is achieved as a result of manager’s skills and proper technologic equipment available on the farm suitable for carrying out husbandry operations. Applying skilled management to the whole business of farming is of an extraordinary importance, too. The manager should be equipped with more or less sophisticated software that would make his decision making process more professional and adequate to (generaly) production conditions. Such software (program) will allow proving his technological conception by economic calculations and proper tests. An Agricultural Technology Management Program AGRO-EXPERT has been conceived and is discussed in this paper. The authors analyze situation in appearance of such programs and conditions/information necessary for their correct (adequate) functions.

With the availability of in-line inspection data, pipeline operators have additional information to develop the technical and economic justification for integrity verification programs (i.e. Fitness-for-Purpose) across an entire pipeline system. The Probability of Exceedance (POE) methodology described herein provides a defensible decision making process for addressing immediate corrosion threats identified through metal loss in-line inspection (ILI) and the use of sub-critical in-line inspection data to develop a long term integrity management program. In addition, this paper describes the process used to develop a Corrosion In-line Inspection POE-based Assessment for one of the systems operated by TransGas Limited (Saskatchewan, Canada). In 2001, TransGas Limited and CC Technologies undertook an integrity verification program of the Loomis to Herbert gas pipeline system to develop an appropriate scope and schedule maintenance activities along this pipeline system. This methodology customizes Probability of Exceedance (POE) results with a deterministic corrosion growth model to determine pipeline specific excavation/repair and re-inspection interval alternatives. Consequently, feature repairs can be scheduled based on severity, operational and financial conditions while maintaining safety as first priority. The merging of deterministic and probabilistic models identified the Loomis to Herbert pipeline system’s worst predicted metal loss depth and the lowest safety factor per each repair/reinspection interval alternative, which when combined with the cost/benefit analysis provided a simplified and safe decision-making process.

Abstract The achievement of an efficient management in agriculture, as in any branch of the national economy, is possible only by knowing perfectly the evolution of various economic and financial phenomena during one year of activity, their variation from provisions and in dynamics, as well as the correct diagnosis of the period. On the basis of these data, it is possible to establish the measures for correction of the negative aspects observed and the expansion of the positive ones, for the higher profitability of the entire economic and financial activity of the agricultural holdings at the level of competitiveness imposed by the requirements and exigencies of the economy. The management of any agricultural holding (irrespective of its form of ownership) involves an essential component the economic and financial analysis by which it is supervised and evaluated its function in the system. The economic and financial analysis can be used without restriction in the management of the agricultural holding, respectively in solving any current and prospective problem that ultimately affects the level of economic efficiency itself. In this context, the economic and financial analysis finds a well-defined place and role both in the preparatory phase and in the final stage of the decision-making process.

Abstract Natural-production conditions determine operational efficiency of logging machines. This influence needs to be taken into account at different levels of forest management. It is necessary to allocate areas with similar natural-production conditions for effective forest management. It allows simplifying the decision making process for selecting logging technology and machines. The purpose of this study was to establish areas with similar natural and production conditions in the European North of Russia (ENR). In addition, for small enterprises, we recommend logging technologies and logging machines that can be used in established areas. We determined the indicators of the natural-production conditions of ENR regions and compared them. Cluster analysis was used to compare the indicators. We found that ENR can be divided into three main zones A, B, C and two subzones B1 and B2 with similar natural-production conditions. In the zones A, B and the subzones B1 and B2, small logging enterprises should use a harvester and a forwarder. In the zone C, the enterprises can use a logging system including a harvester and a forwarder or a logging system including a feller buncher, a skidder and a processor. The logging system should be based on the light class of logging machines for the zone A, the medium class or the heavy class for the zones B, C and the subzones B1, B2, the heavy class of machines for the zone C.

Renewable technologies and the extension of their scope of usage basically has to face the general obstacles like any other novelties newly introduced to the market. In the case of environmentally friendly and clean technologies we must consider another critical aspect: the knowledge and the trust of the potential future users. To influence these people first we must extend their knowledge regarding renewable energies so they will be able to change their own approach about them. Usually the most crucial factor is the economic efficiency which determines the attitude of the majority of the users. Even the ones whose decision making process is highly based on the environmental patterns. In the case of any technology, the economic aspect is significantly influenced by its operational effectiveness. So this analysis – besides the direct economic matters – aims to examine how the performance of thermal water heating in greenhouses can be improved by using heat pumping. JEL classification: Q42

The purpose of this article is to outline a decision-making process and highlight which portions of the augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) evaluation process deserve special attention when deciding which features are required for a communication system in order to provide optimal benefit for the user. The clinician then will be able to use a feature-match approach as part of the decision-making process to determine whether mobile technology or a dedicated device is the best choice for communication. The term mobile technology will be used to describe off-the-shelf, commercially available, tablet-style devices like an iPhone®, iPod Touch®, iPad®, and Android® or Windows® tablet.

Women today are considered to be outside the political and administrative power structures and their participation in the decision-making process is non-existent. As far as their participation in the political life is concerned they are still on the margins. The existence of patriarchal society in Lebanon as well as the absence of governmental policies and procedures that aim at helping women and enhancing their political participation has made it very difficult for women to be accepted as leaders and to be granted votes in elections (UNIFEM, 2002).This above quote is taken from a report that was prepared to assess the progress made regarding the status of Lebanese women both on the social and governmental levels in light of the Beijing Platform for Action – the name given to the provisions of the Fourth Conference on Women held in Beijing in 1995. The above quote describes the slow progress achieved by Lebanese women in view of the ambitious goal that requires that the proportion of women occupying administrative or political positions in Lebanon should reach 30 percent of thetotal by the year 2005!
