REFERENCES Berenshtein G. Hebrew incunabula amount to a rather modest, in terms of number, group of around 150 editions that were printed within the period from the late 60s of the 15th century to January 1, 1501 in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Turkey. Despite such a small number of Hebrew incunabula, the role they played in the history of the formation of European printing cannot be overlooked. Even less possible is to overestimate the importance of Hebrew incunabula for understanding Jewish spiritual life as it evolved in Europe during the Renaissance.Russian depositories house 43 editions of Hebrew incunabula, in 113 copies and fragments. The latter are distributed as following: the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences — 67 items stored; the Russian State Library — 38 items; the National Library of Russia — 7 items; the Jewish Religious Community of Saint Petersburg — 1 item. The majority of these books came in public depositories at the late 19th — first half of the 20th century from private collections of St. Petersburg collectors: Moses Friedland (1826—1899), Daniel Chwolson (1819—1911) and David Günzburg (1857—1910). This article looks into the circumstances of how exactly these incunabula were acquired by the depositories. For the first time there are analysed publications of Russian scholars that either include descriptions of Hebrew incunabula (inventories, catalogues, lists) or related to various aspects of Hebrew incunabula studies. The article presents the first annotated bibliography of all domestic publications that are in any way connected with Hebrew incunabula, covering the period from 1893 (the first publication) to the present. In private collections, there was paid special attention to the formation of incunabula collections. It was expressed in the allocation of incunabula as a separate group of books in printed catalogues and the publication of research works on incunabula studies, which belonged to the pen of collectors themselves and haven’t lost their scientific relevance today.

The summary discusses the history, structure, and areas of activity of the Saint Petersburg branch of the Scientific Council on the Methodology of Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Research under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The members of the Saint Petersburg branch are focused on practice, which is due to the predominance of researchers in the engineering and natural sciences. According to the author, the Council stimulates work related to interdisciplinary synthesis and convergence of the humanities and natural sciences in solving the problem of artificial intelligence.

The type material and additional specimens deposited in the collections of the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Saint Petersburg, of four poorly known species of Microspio and Spio, M. kussakini Chlebovitsch, 1959, S. kurilensis Buzhinskaya, 1990 comb. nov., S. picta Zachs, 1933 and S. unidentata Chlebovitsch, 1959, were examined. All species occur in intertidal or shallow subtidal areas of the northwest Pacific Ocean. Previously available taxonomic information on these species was from brief original descriptions and very few additional publications. A redescription of these four species is presented including detailed descriptions and illustrations of morphological characters. Comments on the taxonomic status are added. Diagnostic characters of Microspio and Spio species are discussed.

The research is carried out in the context of ethnolinguistics, which is aimed at analyzing nominations of ecosystem objects as means of presenting relations between language and culture, and in particular, specificity in their perception by various ethnical and subethnical (dialect) groups. The authors rely on two suppositions: though flora and fauna are reflected diacritically in linguistic consciousness of various dialect communities due to physical, geographical, social environment, there exist some universal lexical and phraseological language means to describe every object of nature. The purpose of the article is to determine the regularities in nomination of the cuckoo as a significant linguocultural representative of fauna. The material for the study was the card file of the Linguistic Atlas of Russian folk dialects, stored at the Institute for linguistic research of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Saint Petersburg). The research has shown that the nominations of the cuckoo and the cuckoo chick have special implications in the linguistic consciousness of the Russian people. These units have onomatopoietic origin, they have undergone phonetic, derivational and semantic transformations in the Russian dialect continuum. Ornithonyms implement a binary semantic correlation, linking the sphere of living nature, to which they belong by denotative features, and the human character – the area where their development of connotative-contextual semantics leads, due to the specifics of the linguocreative thinking of the language personality.

During the Russo-Turkish War (1768–1774) the expedition organized by the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences building in Saint Petersburg, in the person of S. Gmelin, for research purposes explored the western shores of the Caspian Sea and the northern regions of Iran. As a result of their research, the ethnography, history and the materials on the customs of the people of these territories are accepted as public value, the spiritual and material values are revealed as well. During the study of the northern provinces of Iran and the Eastern Transcaucasia the expedition had to overcome many obstacles by putting S. Gmelin’s life on the line.

The Ruthenian version of the Early Rus᾿ Exegesis on John of Damascus᾿ Easter Canon is published here according to the sole known mid-16th century manuscript from the Grand Duchy of Lithuania (Saint Petersburg, The Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences, P. Dobrokhotov collection (f. 37), No. 18, f. 302‒308). The text belongs to the little known in Early Slavic studies genre of exegesis (commentaries) on hymnography and is a part of a larger (and still unpublished) set of Old Church Slavonic hymnopgraphic commentaries compiled in Pre-Mongol Kievan Rus in the late 12th‒early 13th c. From the entire set, merely the exegesis on the Easter Canon is known to be translated from Old Church Slavonic into Ruthenian. The translation confirms the earlier conclusion that Ruthenian was never used in liturgical singing in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, since it was functioning as a lingua ad homines and clearly differed from Old Church Slavonic, which was used as a lingua ad Deum, e.g. the only Slavic Eastern Orthodox liturgical language directly addressed to God. The publication is accompanied by a description of themost important general characteristics of the Ruthenian version, which is a later and already corruptedcopy of the original translation.
