The main focus of Orientalist thought is nothing but to reconstruct and influence Islamic civilization. Their enthusiasm to activate orientalism is increasingly challenged by the presence of Islam as a religion that has followers of most of the world's population. One of the actions of orientalism towards the Islamic world is to start a research movement on the Qur'an and al-Hadith which are the basis of the law and guidelines of Muslims. Not far from the critics of the Qur'an and al-Hadith, they also deconstructed aspects of the development of science, Islamic law, and even the originality of Islamic history. Some famous orientalism figures, one of them is Reinhart Dozy, a famous orientelism from the Netherlands with the concept of literacy in the history of Islamic civilization in Spain. Even though he received a lot of criticism and appreciation from both orientalists and Muslim thinkers, his literary work has had a great influence on Islamic civilization. The discussion steps of this study are entirely carried out using qualitative research that is library research. To be more useful and function properly, this paper is equipped with an explanation using the method of description, interpretation and analysis of data in each discussion. This is done, none other than to focus the discussion to produce a consistent and comprehensive understanding.

Abstract Translation as Writing Across Languages: Samuel Beckett and Fakir Mohan Senapati — This paper attempts to demonstrate that translation cannot be divorced from writing, that originality and creativity are not characteristic only of the latter, that translation is not mere reproduction. This is developed in relation to Samuel Beckett's translations of his own works and five translations of a passage of a late nineteenth-century Indian novel. In the case of Samuel Beckett, translation is seen as a way both to begin and to continue the writing process, a way for him to explore one of the principal themes of his work, the relation of writing to language(s). In that of the five translations into English of a passage from the Oriya novel by Fakir Mohan Senapati, Chha Mana Atha Guntha, the differences between them are examined for the purpose of showing the extent to which the practice of translation is always an act of creative writing.

Abstract The encounter of the Christian faith with local culture produces dynamic interactions. It can happen that the Christian faith is integrated with that culture. Christian faith can also replace local culture. This is proven when the Christian faith meets the Ma ’nenek culture in Toraja. This research was conducted to find out how the perception and impact of Ma' nenek culture on the Christian faith of the GPSDI Buntuminanga congregation, Toraja. By using a qualitative approach or method, it was found that even though this village became a Christian enclave (100% Christian), it turned out that they still believed in local cultures. These things state that some of the local people are Christians who practice syncretism, that is, there are 2 objects of belief or mixed beliefs. In addition there is also occultism, namely belief in the power of darkness. The presence of Ma' nenek has attracted the attention of the community, especially in Lembang Buntuminanga, that the spirits of the ancestors will come to bless, heal, help and save for families who perform this ritual. The purpose of this culture is as a form of respect for parents. There are still some Christians in Toraja who still believe in the efficacy of rituals in the Ma' nenek. However, in general, Ma' nenek is run by not crashing into the Christian faith in GPSDI Lembang Buntuminaga.   Keywords: grandmothers' culture; christian faith; respect for parents   Abstrak Pertemuan iman Kristen dengan kebudayaan lokal menghasilkan interaksi yang dinamis.
