An automated Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system for glaucoma diagnosis using fundus images is developed. The various glaucoma image classification schemes using the supervised and unsupervised learning approaches are reviewed. The research paper involves three stages of glaucoma disease diagnosis. First, the pre-processing stage the texture features of the fundus image is recorded with a two-dimensional Gabor filter at various sizes and orientations. The image features are generated using higher order statistical characteristics, and then Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is used to select and reduce the dimension of the image features. For the performance study, the Gabor filter based features are extracted from the RIM-ONE and HRF database images, and then Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier is used for classification. Final stage utilizes the SVM classifier with the Radial Basis Function (RBF) kernel learning technique for the efficient classification of glaucoma disease with accuracy 90%.

This paper developed a principal component analysis (PCA)-integrated algorithm for feature identification in manufacturing; this algorithm is based on an adaptive PCA-based scheme for identifying image features in vision-based inspection. PCA is a commonly used statistical method for pattern recognition tasks, but an effective PCA-based approach for identifying suitable image features in manufacturing has yet to be developed. Unsuitable image features tend to yield poor results when used in conventional visual inspections. Furthermore, research has revealed that the use of unsuitable or redundant features might influence the performance of object detection. To address these problems, the adaptive PCA-based algorithm developed in this study entails the identification of suitable image features using a support vector machine (SVM) model for inspecting of various object images; this approach can be used for solving the inherent problem of detection that occurs when the extraction contains challenging image features in manufacturing processes. The results of experiments indicated that the proposed algorithm can successfully be used to adaptively select appropriate image features. The algorithm combines image feature extraction and PCA/SVM classification to detect patterns in manufacturing. The algorithm was determined to achieve high-performance detection and to outperform the existing methods.

Multi-sensor image fusion is used to combine the complementary information of source images from the multiple sensors. Recently, conventional image fusion schemes based on signal processing techniques have been studied extensively, and machine learning-based techniques have been introduced into image fusion because of the prominent advantages. In this work, a new multi-sensor image fusion method based on the support vector machine and principal component analysis is proposed. First, the key features of the source images are extracted by combining the sliding window technique and five effective evaluation indicators. Second, a trained support vector machine model is used to extract the focus region and the non-focus region of the source images according to the extracted image features, the fusion decision is therefore obtained for each source image. Then, the consistency verification operation is used to absorb a single singular point in the decisions of the trained classifier. Finally, a novel method based on principal component analysis and the multi-scale sliding window is proposed to handle the disputed areas in the fusion decision pair. Experiments are performed to verify the performance of the new combined method.

The background noise influences the face image recognition greatly. It is crucial to remove the noise signals prior to the face image recognition processing. For this purpose, the wavelet de-noising technology has combined with the kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) to identify face images in this paper. The wavelet de-noising technology was firstly used to remove the noise signals. Then the KPCA was employed to extract useful principal components for the face image recognition. By doing so, the dimensionality of the feature space can be reduced effectively and hence the performance of the face image recognition can be enhanced. Lastly, a support vector machine (SVM) classifier was used to recognize the face images. Experimental tests have been conducted to validate and evaluate the proposed method for the face image recognition. The analysis results have showed high performance of the newly proposed method for face image identification.

A non-invasive technique using knee joint vibroarthographic (VAG) signals can be used for the early diagnosis of knee joint disorders. Among the algorithms devised for the detection of knee joint disorders using VAG signals, algorithms based on entropy measures can provide better performance. In this work, the VAG signal is preprocessed using wavelet decomposition into sub band signals. Features of the decomposed sub bands such as approximate entropy, sample entropy & wavelet energy are extracted as a quantified measure of complexity of the signal. A feature selection based on Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is performed in order to select the significant features. The extracted features are then used for classification of VAG signal into normal and abnormal VAG using support vector machine. It is observed that the classifier provides a better accuracy with feature selection using principal component analysis. And the results show that the classifier was able to classify the signal with an accuracy of 82.6%, error rate of 0.174, sensitivity of 1.0 and specificity of 0.888.

In order to better realize the orchard intelligent mechanization and reduce the labour intensity of workers, the study of intelligent fruit boxes handling robot is necessary. The first condition to realize intelligence is the fruit boxes recognition, which is the research content of this paper. The method of multiview two-dimensional (2D) recognition was adopted. A multiview dataset for fruits boxes was built. For the sake of the structure of the original image, the model of binary multiview 2D kernel principal component analysis network (BM2DKPCANet) was established to reduce the data redundancy and increase the correlation between the views. The method of multiview recognition for the fruits boxes was proposed combining BM2DKPCANet with the support vector machine (SVM) classifier. The performance was verified by comparing with principal component analysis network (PCANet), 2D principal component analysis network (2DPCANet), kernel principal component analysis network (KPCANet), and binary multiview kernel principal component analysis network (BMKPCANet) in terms of recognition rate and time consumption. The experimental results show that the recognition rate of the method is 11.84% higher than the mean value of PCANet though it needs more time. Compared with the mean value of KPCANet, the recognition rate exceeded 2.485%, and the time saved was 24.5%. The model can meet the requirements of fruits boxes handling robot.

China’s energy consumption issues are closely associated with global climate issues, and the scale of energy consumption, peak energy consumption, and consumption investment are all the focus of national attention. In order to forecast the amount of energy consumption of China accurately, this article selected GDP, population, industrial structure and energy consumption structure, energy intensity, total imports and exports, fixed asset investment, energy efficiency, urbanization, the level of consumption, and fixed investment in the energy industry as a preliminary set of factors; Secondly, we corrected the traditional principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm from the perspective of eliminating “bad points” and then judged a “bad spot” sample based on signal reconstruction ideas. Based on the above content, we put forward a robust principal component analysis (RPCA) algorithm and chose the first five principal components as main factors affecting energy consumption, including: GDP, population, industrial structure and energy consumption structure, urbanization; Then, we applied the Tabu search (TS) algorithm to the least square to support vector machine (LSSVM) optimized by the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm to forecast China’s energy consumption. We collected data from 1996 to 2010 as a training set and from 2010 to 2016 as the test set. For easy comparison, the sample data was input into the LSSVM algorithm and the PSO-LSSVM algorithm at the same time. We used statistical indicators including goodness of fit determination coefficient (R2), the root means square error (RMSE), and the mean radial error (MRE) to compare the training results of the three forecasting models, which demonstrated that the proposed TS-PSO-LSSVM forecasting model had higher prediction accuracy, generalization ability, and higher training speed. Finally, the TS-PSO-LSSVM forecasting model was applied to forecast the energy consumption of China from 2017 to 2030. According to predictions, we found that China shows a gradual increase in energy consumption trends from 2017 to 2030 and will breakthrough 6000 million tons in 2030. However, the growth rate is gradually tightening and China’s energy consumption economy will transfer to a state of diminishing returns around 2026, which guides China to put more emphasis on the field of energy investment.
