The small and medium-sized enterprises sector is an important segment of the Indian economy. Results of Third All India SSI unit censuses show a declining growth trend at the All India level and a growing trend in the Kerala sector. With the exception of the Fourth Census, employment growth in the Kerala SME sector has shown an increasing trend. Growth in the SSI Sector can do a lot to solve Kerala's acute unemployment problem. Sickness among the Kerala SME units is a major problem.

Based on the energy consumption and the output value data of the 6 small heavy industrial enterprises during 2007-2011 in Shanghai, we calculated comprehensive energy consumption, carbon emissions, carbon intensity and energy intensity of these enterprises. It been found that the comprehensive energy consumption and the carbon emissions of the 6 small enterprises are in a fluctuating growth trend but the energy intensity and the carbon intensity show a trend of fluctuating downward. The energy intensity and the carbon intensity of the small enterprises are much larger than the average of the two whole industries in Shanghai. We analyzed the correlation coefficients between the output value and the energy consumption as well as between the output value and the carbon emissions. The results show that the comprehensive energy consumption and the carbon emissions have positive correlation as well as the carbon emissions and the output value.

A considerable portion of the Indian economy operates under the Small Enterprises or SEs where the studies on employment relations have largely remained neglected due to some reason or other. As such research in the field of employment relations in SEs will make a fruitful contribution to the existing ER/HRM literature (Wilkinson, 1999). There is complete lack of studies on employees’ perspectives in the field of employment relations undertaken from an Indian perspective. Employment relations in the Indian SEs are intricate, complex and understudied due to the precarious nature of employment and the absence of HRM mechanism. Therefore, it becomes imperative to understand how employees perceive employment relations in selected SEs in India. The sample consisted of 40 enterprises belonging to SEs in India. The author has ascertained ‘Mixed’ research methods for the present research. Finally, discussions have been made highlighting employees’ perspectives on employment relations in selected SEs in India.

AbstractNonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has rapidly become the most common cause of chronic liver diseases. We aimed to explore the incidence and distribution characteristics of NASH by sex, region and sociodemographic index (SDI). We collected data, including sex and region, on NASH-related liver cirrhosis from the 2017 GBD study. The age-standardized incidence rates (ASRs) and estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were used to estimate the incidence trend and distribution characteristics. Globally, the incidence of liver cirrhosis caused by NASH increased from 178,430 cases in 1990 to 367,780 cases in 2017, an increase of approximately 105.56%. The ASR of NASH increased by an average of 1.35% per year (95% CI 1.28–1.42). Meanwhile, large differences in the ASR and the EAPC were observed across regions. The middle-high SDI region had the highest increase among all five SDI regions, followed by middle SDI region. In addition, Eastern Europe, Andean Latin America and Central Asia showed a more significant growth trend of ASR. In contrast, the high SDI region demonstrated the slowest increasing trend of ASR, and the high-income Asia Pacific demonstrated a decreasing trend among the 21 regions. Liver cirrhosis has caused a huge and rising health burden in many countries and regions. In addition, with the growth of obesity, population and aging, NASH might replace viral hepatitis as the most important cause of liver cirrhosis in the near future. Therefore, appropriate interventions are needed in coming decades to realize early diagnosis and prevention of NASH-related liver cirrhosis.

Rainfall has enormous impact on weather and climate. An investigation on impact of rainfall on coconut productivity was taken place in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts of Kerala, to identify the variation in coconut production on an account of secondary data based on rainfall collected for a time period from 1991 to 2015 (25 years). Panel data analysis revealed that rainfall during 3rd (July-September) and 4th (October-December) quarters was found to have significant negative impact on coconut production. Amount of rainfall observed during 1st (Januvary-March) and 2nd(April-June) quarters has positive non-significant impact on coconut production. The growth trend of rainfall showed an increasing trend in Kozhikode district whereas Malappuram district had a decreasing trend over the years.

India after going through the reforms in 1991 was eluded to feel that it is going through the transformation as if it would be globalized. India which toed the State-controlled tenets even when the pace of globalization was increasing, but it became difficult to handle the balance of payment crisis. It is at this stage the Indian economy had come out of the web and make it more open and resilient. Before it had taken the full advantage of globalization, disruptive forces pulled down the global economy and India could save itself from the downswing. It was because the market which was expanding with private and foreign investment began to fold as the flow was disrupted or foreign investment was not expected to maintain the tempo. The economy is badly stuck up because of the no effort to undertake labor reforms and also to neglect the productivity in agriculture. The mega industries were not in a position to shoulder the growth trend unless the ancillaries or subsidiaries were becoming strong. With a single structural reform in the form of GST, the MSME sector has collapsed. How far urban market absorbs the capital has its limit which has been reached and now the growth rate after falling to little over six percent will have to creep at snail pace to reach at 8% even in five years. Till then Chances of poverty to resurface are also increasing.

SMEsare the backbone of any country asthey grow at the grass root level which increase the earnings of the country and reduce unemployment problem too.It is one of the dynamic and most vibrant sectors of Indian economy. Over the last few decades, SMEs have played a crucial role in mobilising the local resources effectively. However, among the many difficulties, access to finance is widely recognized as one of the main hurdles in the growth and development path of the SMEs. After 2012, SMEs are allowed to float their shares through stock exchanges i.e., NSE EMERGE and BSE SME. The present paperattempts to study the impact of stock market accessibility by SMEs on various parameters of financial performance. In this paper, we tried to study whether getting listed on the stock exchange have improved the performance of selected SMEs or not. For this purpose, we considered the SME units who have issued IPOs during the year 2015 and the economic performance of the selected enterprises are measured with the help of ROA, ROE, NPM, CR, DE and EPS. We found that getting listed on the stock exchange did not improve the performance of selected SMEs.
