A wise doctor, an excellent clinician, professor, doctor of medical sciences, honored worker of science of the Republic of Karelia Lidiya Alekseevna has walked more than 50 years in medicine and is widely known in scientific circles. She graduated from the Samarkand Medical Institute named after I. Academician I.P. Pavlova. Then she worked for some time as an obstetrician-gynecologist in Uzbekistan. Further training took place at the Leningrad State Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors: clinical residency, postgraduate studies, worked as an assistant and associate professor of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Leningrad State Pedagogical University. Lidia Alekseevna Samorodinova is a student of Professor A.E. Mandelstam.

The dissertation was completed at the departments of microbiology and obstetric-gynecological Kazan. state Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians. V.I. Lenin. The dissertation candidate reviewed the literature of Russian and foreign sources, presented the clinical and experimental data obtained by various authors (Ulesko-Stroganova, Lebedeva, etc.), gave different views on the mechanism of action of streptocide: through the reticulo-endoelial system or due to the direct bactericidal property of the streptocide itself. The author's own research consists of an experimental and a clinical part.

The authors of this article aimed at reconstructing the biography of B. I. Fuks in the context of the history of the Soviet era and its most important events. Boris Ilyich (Ber Eljich) Fuks (1897–1973) was a Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor, a surgeon, the founder of Novokuznetsk Surgical School. His scientific and pedagogical activity was primarily connected with the Tomsk State University and the State Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors, consistently located in Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Stalinsk (Novokuznetsk). The research is based on the documents found in the State Archives of the Russian Federation, the State Archives of Tomsk Region, the State Archives of Kemerovo Region, the State Archives of Kemerovo Region in Novokuznetsk, and the Archives of Novokuznetsk State Institute for Advanced Training of Doctors, and some publications in the central and local periodicals. The documents from the personal archive and memoirs of B. B. Fuks, the son of B. I. Fuks (Boston, USA), made up a separate important set of sources.

The relevance of the research topic is due to the fact that in 2021 the Republic of Mari El celebrates the 90th anniversary of higher education. The Mari State Pedagogical Institute named after N.K. Krupskaya in the 1990s–2000s was represented by the following faculties: historical and philological, physical and mathematical, industrial and pedagogical, foreign languages, primary classes, pedagogy and psychology, physical culture, supplementary pedagogical professions, pre-university training. In 1992, the Law of the Russian Federation «On Education» was adopted, which determined restructuring of the higher education system as a whole and the Mari State Institute named after N.K. Krupskaya in particular. Until 2000, the state funding of the institute was used only for sharply reduced salaries and scholarships of students. Despite financial difficulties, the staff of the Mari State Institute named after N.K. Krupskaya achieved good results in the 1990s. The Institute was successfully attested. In 1997, he was attested in all specialties for the period of five years. In 1998, the university underwent an accreditation process. In 2003, the Institute was also successfully attested, passed licensing and accreditation. In general, the state attestation commissions noted a good level of specialists’ training. In 2008 The Mari State Pedagogical Institute named after N.K. Krupskaya merged with the Mari State University. The classical University became the legal successor of the pedagogical institute. The Mari State Pedagogical Institute named after N.K. Krupskaya during the period of its activity since 1931, has trained more than 40 000 specialists with higher professional education for the schools of the republic. It was the only university in the republic that trained specialists with the qualification of «teacher».

We are considering the main aspects of the professional activity of an outstanding naval hygienist, alumnus of the Faculty of residency training for the Naval Service of Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov (1964), Candidate of Medical Sciences (1971), Higher Senior Officer (graduate education hygiene) of the Scientific Research Center of the Academy (1975), Associate Professor at the Department of Naval and Radiation Hygiene (2004), retired Colonel of the Medical Service Zun Andrey Vadimovich. Having gained a unique experience in medical practice as the Head of the medical service of a diesel-electric submarine of the Baltic Fleet and having completed his postgraduate studies at the Department of Naval and Radiation Hygiene (Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov), Andrey Vadimovich successfully defended his thesis for the degree of Candidate of Medical Sciences (graduate education hygiene) on the topic "Hygienic characteristics of the working conditions of specialists working on the fleet shore installations of the Naval Service, working with components of rocket fuel". After this more than 45 years of his professional activity were devoted specifically to the preventive medicine trend hygiene. The main professional achievements of Andrey Vadimovich undoubtedly include the study of the physiological effect of negative air ions in closed premises with conditions of oxygen deficiency, the study of the workplace hygiene of coastal missile systems specialists, as well as the hygienic characteristics of military clothing. Andrey Vadimovich has been also teaching such academic disciplines as naval and radiation hygiene, as well as medical ecology for all categories of Academy students. He is a veteran of the Armed Forces and Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov. Andrey Vadimovich considers the success of his son and grandson as the main achievement of his life. His son Sergey followed the path taken by his father and graduated from the Faculty of Residency Training for the Naval Service of Military Medical Academy named after S.M. Kirov, also he deployed downrange on submarines, and then became an Associate Professor of the Psychiatry Department at the Academy. The grandson of Andrey Vadimovich, Pavel, graduated from the University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics. After he completed his postgraduate studies at the same University, his area of expertise is computer modeling of the circulatory system.

70 years have passed since the birth of the famous scientist endocrinologist - consultant of the Endocrinological Research Center of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Lenin Prize laureate, Honored Scientist of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Rajab Kaplanovich Islamambekov. R.K. Islambekov in 1947 graduated from the Tashkent Medical Institute, and in 1950 - graduate school. R.K. Islambekov was one of the organizers of the Institute of Regional Medicine (now the Institute of Endocrinology) in Tashkent, where he worked for 18 years - first the head of the laboratory, then the head of the endocrinology department and the director of the institute. In 1961 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Clinical and morphological study of endemic goiter." R.K. Islambekov is a talented scientist whose scientific interests are concentrated in the field of physiology and pathology of the thyroid gland, problems of endemic goiter. He is one of the pioneers of introducing in the USSR methods of diagnosing and treating thyroid diseases with radioactive iodine. R. K. Islambekov proposed and substantiated the concept of the role of iodine and other trace elements in the multifactorial etiology of endemic goiter, on the basis of which a drug was created for the prevention and treatment of endemic goiter. R.K.Islambekov is the organizer of many expeditions to study the etiology, pathogenesis, and prevalence of endemic goiter in Uzbekistan, to conduct mass iodine prophylaxis, as a result of which the incidence of endemic goiter in this region has sharply decreased.

Viktor Ivanovich Struchkov was born 30 July (12 August) 1907 year in Ryazhsk Ryazan region. After graduating from the 2nd Moscow medical Institute V. I. Struchkov worked as a resident surgeon, and then head of the surgical Department in Voskresensk Interdistrict hospital in Moscow region (1931-1941). During the great Patriotic war, he was a leading surgeon (1941), the chief inspector and a specialist of the 21st army, the army surgeon of the 13th army in Bryansk and 1st Ukrainian front (1942-1945). In 1946, V. I. Struchkov with the rank of Colonel of medical service was transferred to reserves and became an assistant of the hospital surgical clinic, then became an associate Professor of operative surgery, since 1951 – Professor, and since 1953 – the head of the Department of General surgery of the 1st Moscow medical Institute. I. M. Sechenov, while working as chief surgeon of the Ministry of health of the USSR (1949-1965). In 1946 he defended his thesis, and in 1949 – his doctoral dissertation. In 1961, V. I. Struchkov was awarded the Lenin prize. In 1965, his monograph on "tumors of the lung" is awarded the prize. S. I. Spasokukotskogo of medical Sciences of the USSR, and Viktor Ivanovich became an academician of the USSR AMS. 1966-1976 Struchkov V. I. – academician-Secretary of the Presidium of the USSR AMS. His textbook "General surgery" was awarded the state prize of the USSR in 1975. In 1977 Victor Ivanovich was awarded the Title of hero of Socialist Labor. Viktor Ivanovich Struchkov died on December 25, 1988. He has created a school of more than 45 doctors and 140 candidates of medical Sciences, he published more than 400 scientific works, including 33 monographs. He was the Deputy Chairman of the all-Union scientific society of surgeons, chief editor of the journal "Thoracic surgery", an honorary member of the Medical society of the name of J. Purkinje (Czechoslovakia), foreign, national and regional societies of surgeons, holder of two orders of Lenin, October Revolution, red banner, Patriotic war 1-St and 2-nd degree, two orders of Labour red banner, Friendship of peoples, the red Star, awarded with numerous medals.

The article analyzes the life path of Heorhii I. Khodorovskyi − Ukrainian public figure, diplomat, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine, People’s Deputy of Ukraine. The major areas of his activity at different life stages, academic interests, contribution to the development of medicine and diplomacy are studied. The paper examines the childhood of Heorhii Khodorovskyi, his parents, educators and school years. After school, Heorhii studied at Chernivtsi Medical Institute, pursued post-graduate studies and gained a degree of Doctor of Medicine. From 1961 to 1969, Heorhii Khodorovskyi – a postgraduate student, assistant professor, Associate Professor at Chernivtsi National University. In 1968, he was assigned to the Institute for Doctors Improvement in Moscow and later to the USSR Academy of Sciences to study foreign languages. Between 1969 and 1973, he was Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zambia. Heorhii also held position of a chairman of the local committee of the Embassy of the USSR in Zambia. The following stage of Heorhii’s life went in Afghanistan, where he gained experience of people management in a foreign country under hazardous environment, terrorist acts, kidnapping and military operations. Between 1987 and 1990, Khodorovskyi was an advisor to the Rector of Kabul Medical Institute, head of a group of scientific and pedagogical staff of the USSR in Afghanistan, advisor to the Minister for Health of Afghanistan; worked in the trade mission of the USSR in Kabul. In February 1989, he returned from Afghanistan to Chernivtsi, where the staff of the Medical Institute nominated him as a candidate for the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine deputy. From 1990 till 1992, Heorhii acted as People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the 1st calling, was Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Women Affairs, Family Protection, Motherhood and Childhood. Heorhii was also engaged in operations on eliminating consequences of the Chernobyl disaster, worked with foreign delegations, was a member of the escort group during the visit of the President of Ukraine to Kyrgyzstan. He frequently went on foreign business trips, in the course of which took part in international conferences. At the Verkhovna Rada sessions, Khodorovskyi invariably put an emphasis on the issues of health protection of Ukrainian women and children, working and recreation environment, labour compensation and family support. The Ministry of Health of Ukraine Committee headed by Heorhii Khodorovskyi adopted a decision on the creation of the National Family Planning Program. In October 1992, he was transferred from the Verkhovna Rada to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine. From 1992 to 1998, Heorhii Khodorovskyi served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of India. On June 10, 1994, the well-known pediatrician-endocrinologist Yuri Alexandrovich Knyazev, doctor of medical sciences, professor, honored scientist of the Russian Federation, head of the endocrinology and metabolism department of the Russian State Medical University, turned 60. After graduating with honors from the Kursk Feldsher-Midwifery School and the Kursk State Medical Institute, Yu. A. Knyazev specializes in residency and postgraduate studies at 11 Moscow Medical Institute for Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology. Candidate (1963) and doctoral (1969) dissertations are devoted to questions of pathogenesis, clinic, and treatment of diabetes in children. At the age of 36, Yu. A. Knyazev was awarded the academic title of professor of pediatrics. Yu. A. Knyazev organized a hormone-exchange diagnostic laboratory, which was a branch of the Central Scientific Research Laboratory II MMM named after N. I. Pirogov on the basis of pediatric clinics of the Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1 (Morozovskaya). Yu. A. Knyazev was at the forefront of domestic pediatric endocrinology, clinical biochemistry, headed the pediatric endocrinological service of Kursk and Moscow; on his initiative, a specialized kindergarten-nursery was first created, medical institutions for endocrinological patients were organized, the principles of which were approved in many regions of the country. As the chairman of the Union, Republican, and interagency commissions on pediatric endocrinology, Yu. A. Knyazev integrates scientific research in this area.
