Medical science and health care in Tatarstan have suffered a great loss: On October 6, 1985, Zainab Nazipovna Yakubova, TASSR honoured doctor, TASSR honoured scientist, doctor of medical sciences, professor, CPSU member since 1956, passed away after a serious and long illness.

Introduction: November 6, 2021 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of an outstanding scientist and organizer of health care, academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Galina Nikolaevna Serdyukovskaya. For 33 years, Dr. Serdyukovskaya headed the Institute of Pediatric and Adolescent Health of the Ministry of Health of the USSR (now the Research Institute of Hygiene and Health Protection of Children and Adolescents of the National Medical Research Center for Children’s Health of the Russian Ministry of Health). Objective: The article aims to analyze and present invaluable contribution of Professor Serdyukovskaya to the development of Russian medical science and one of its most important areas – pediatric and adolescent health. Materials and methods: We analyzed archival materials, scientific publications for the period 1965–2012. Results: The article describes the main scientific achievements of pediatric health physicians and their importance in protecting health of the younger generation under the guidance of Academician of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences G.N. Serdyukovskaya. It also presents the main scientific directions of the institute headed by this eminent scientist, stages of formation and development of scientific foundations of preventive pediatric health care. The role and place of research conducted by the personnel of the Institute under the leadership of Galina Serdyukovskaya in the national state system of health protection of the younger generation of the country is demonstrated. Conclusion: These materials are the scientific, organizational and methodological basis for researchers who continue to develop new areas of research to maintain and improve child and adolescent health laid down by G.N. Serdyukovskaya.

Fundamental scientific studies have always been and will always be a priority in Ukrainian academic medical science. Particular attention must be paid to the development of innovations and scientific and technical develop- ments in the medical industry. The National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine endorses basic principles of further progressive development of medical science in the field of prevention of diseases, their early diagnosis, treatment and effective methods of rehabilitation. The Academy designates the strategic directions of research and innovation, ways to implement tasks and activities of a medical, economic, legal and social pattern, with the aim of maintaining and strengthening human health, as well as extending active longevity of the population. The implementation of the main directions of modern fundamental research at the level of the leading global institutions calls for a significant improvement in methodology, technologies and scien- tific workforce on par with the leading scientific institutions worldwide. This will give a new impetus to the development, implementation and continuity of fundamental research in medical science considering demographic, socio-hygienic and socio-economic factors that have a formative role for the health of the nation. The organization of research and production enterpris- es within the framework of academic institutions with the elimination of interdepartmental barriers, a more complex scientific research, the rational use of the funding, and the active implementation of results in health care practice is also of great importance to the further development of the funda- mental research of the medical science in Ukraine. The development of the global medical science is continuous, while priorities and key development points show the tendency to sway toward biomedical research and biotech- nology, genetic engineering and personalized high-tech medicine. The currently observed development of medical science results from the constant search for innovative solutions to improve the health and quality of life of patients. Particular attention is focused on the design of a new generation of materials with a high degree of biocompatibility and tolerance towards the immune system. In addition, apart from biotolerance, it is important to ensure appropriate mechanical and technological properties of materials intended for intra-body applications. Knowledge of the above parameters becomes the basis for considerations related to the possibilities of choosing the appropriate polymer materials. The researchers' interest, as evidenced by the number of available publications, is attracted by nanobiocomposites based on chitosan and carbon nanotubes, which, due to their properties, enable integration with the tissues of the human body. Nanosystems can be used in many areas of medicine. They constitute an excellent base for use as dressing materials, as they exhibit antimicrobial properties. In addition, they can be carriers of drugs and biological macromolecules and can be used in gene therapy, tissue engineering, and construction of biosensors. For this reason, potential application areas of chitosan-carbon nanotube nanocomposites in medical sciences are presented in this publication, considering the characteristics of the system components.

Abstract Introduction Metrics utilized within the Medical Science Liaison (MSL) role are plentiful and traditionally quantitative. We sought to understand the current use and value of metrics applied to the MSL role, including the use of qualitative metrics. Methods We developed a list of 70 MSL leaders working in Canada, spanning 29 companies. Invitations were emailed Jun 16, 2020 and the 25-question online survey was open for 3 weeks. Questions were designed to assess demographics as well as how and why metrics are applied to the MSL role. Data analyses were descriptive. Results Responses were received from 44 leaders (63%). Of the 42 eligible, 45% had ≤ 2 years of experience as MSL leaders and 86% supported specialty care products over many phases of the product lifecycle. A majority (69%) agreed or strongly agreed that metrics are critical to understanding whether an MSL is delivering value, and 98% had used metrics in the past year. The most common reason to use metrics was ‘to show value/impact of MSLs to leadership’ (66%). The most frequently used metric was ‘number of health-care professional (HCP) interactions’, despite this being seen as having moderate value. Quantitative metrics were used more often than qualitative, although qualitative were more often highly valued. Conclusion The data collected show a lack of agreement between the frequency of use for some metrics and their value in demonstrating the contribution of an MSL. Overall, MSL leaders in our study felt qualitative metrics were a better means of showing the true impact of MSLs.

The article is devoted to a historical event that occurred 250 years ago in Moscow. The authors draw analogies between the plague epidemic and the current situation associated with a new coronavirus infection, and note what unites these events. It shows the dedicated work of doctors in the conditions of complete ambiguity of the causes and spread of these infections, in the absence of effective treatment methods, what was the behavior of the population, how prevention measures were developed, and what is the role of the authorities of Moscow and St. Petersburg in the fight. How the state of medical science and the level of health care, referred to by economists as the non — material sphere, can affect the physical and mental health of the population and the economic situation of the city, country and the whole World.

At present, the typical patient is systematically encouraged to believe that his physician will not make a mistake, even though what the physician does may not achieve the desired medical objectives, and even though it cannot be denied that some physicians do make mistakes. The encouragement of this inflated belief in the competence of the physician is of course reinforced by the practice of not keeping systematic and accessible records of medical error. Yet everyone knows that this is a false confidence . . . the current high incidence of iatrogenic illness constitutes a medical problem of enormous proportions, well recognized within government agencies and segments of the medical profession, but only dimly suspected by the public at large. There is still a relatively high probability of a patient suffering from medical error. What patients and the public have to learn is to recognize, accept, and respond reasonably to the necessary fallibility of the individual physician. The physician-patient relationship has to be redefined as one in which necessarily mistakes will be made, sometimes culpably, sometimes because of the state of development of the particular medical sciences at issue, and sometimes, inevitably, because of the inherent limitations in the predictive powers of an enterprise that is concerned essentially with the flourishing of particulars, of individuals. The patient and the public therefore must also understand that medical science is committed to the patient's prospering and flourishing, and that the treatment of the patient is itself a part of that science and not a mere application of it.

In this study, the purpose was to investigate Personal Information Management (PIM) activity rate regardingfourPIM aspects o f acquisition, maintenance, organization, and retrieval o f faculty members in three universities, i.e., Tehran University o f Medical Science (TUMS), Iran University o f Medical Sciences (lUMS), and Shahid Beheshti University o f Medical Sciences (SBUMS). The relationship between PIM use and workplace, academic rank, and gender factors were also studied. A Persian-language questionnaire was used to measure PIM performance of participants. Data were analysed using statistical tests. Findings showed that most o f the participants preferred desktop computers for saving theirpersonal digital information. Also, the percentage of PIM use by the faculty members was reported as 50-75%. However, no significant associations between PIM use by the faculty members and their workplace, academic rank, andgenderwerefound.
