Introduction. Congenital contracture of the iliotibial tract is a rather rare pathology that causes difficulties in diagnosing and planning treatment activities. The lack of a clear idea of the causes of the disease has led to disagreement in the interpretation of the diagnosis in patients with this pathology. In the Russian-language literature, this disease is referred to as idiopathic extension and abduction contracture of a hip joint or idiopathic contracture of the dorsal gluteal muscle (a congenital contracture of the tendons of the dorsal gluteal muscles), whereas the English-language literature more often highlights congenital or idiopathic contracture of the dorsal gluteal muscles. Clinical сase. The results of treatment of a 6-year-old child with congenital contracture of the iliotibial tract is presented. The child exhibited lameness when walking first started, but the correct diagnosis was not established. Clinically, along with the limitation of adduction and extension in the hip joint and an induration of the soft tissue along the external surface of the right thigh, the pelvis was skewed, and there was shortening of the right lower limb and a valgus deformity of diaphysis of the right femoral bone. Ultrasonographic and magnetic resonance imaging indicated the presence of a fibrous bridle over the outer surface of the right thigh. The fibrous bridle was excised for 15 cm, and a temporary hemiepiphysiodesis of the medial portion of the distal growth zone of the right femur was performed. Results and discussion. At the 1-year control examination, the patient did not present any complaints. There was no relapse of the contracture. According to X-ray study results, correction of the valgus deformity of the right femur was achieved, and the metal structures were removed. Despite the more frequent extension and abduction direction of the contracture of the iliotibial tract indicated by most authors, the direction and severity apparently may depend on the predominant zone of fibrous degeneration of the muscle groups. Additionally, with the predominant lesion of the dorsal gluteal muscle, a more pronounced extension component can be expected, whereas with the predominant lesion of the musculus tensor fasciae latae, a flexion component can be expected and was observed in our patient.

Abstract Russian forms of electrical stimulation became popular to a large extent as a result of the activities of Kots, who claimed force gains of up to 40% in elite athletes as a result of what was then a new form of stimulation. He did not provide details of his published work, nor did he give references. Russian electrical stimulation became popular despite the lack of research in the English-language literature. No studies published in English examined whether the “10/50/10” treatment regimen (10 seconds of stimulation followed by 50 seconds rest, repeated for 10 minutes) advocated by Kots is optimal, and only one study addressed whether maximum muscle torque was produced at an alternating current frequency of 2.5 kHz. The few studies that compared low-frequency monophasic pulsed current and Russian electrical stimulation are inconclusive. This article reviews and provides details of the original studies by Kots and co-workers. The authors contend that these studies laid the foundations for the use of Russian forms of electrical stimulation in physical therapy. The authors conclude that there are data in the Russian-language literature that support the use of Russian electrical stimulation but that some questions remain unanswered.

ABSTRACTIntroduction:A variety of subjective experiences have been reported to be associated with the symptom expression of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and Tourette syndrome (TS). First described in TS patients, these subjective experiences have been defined in different ways. There is no consensus in the literature on how to best define subjective experiences. This lack of consensus may hinder the understanding of study results and prevents the possibility of including them in the search for etiological factors associated with OCD and TS.Methods:The objective of this article was to review the descriptions of subjective experiences in the English-language literature from 1980–2007. This meta-analytic review was carried out using the English-language literature from 1980–2007 available on MEDLINE, PsyclNFO, and the Cochrane Library databases using the following search terms: premonitory urges, sensory tics, “just-right” perceptions, sensory phenomena, sensory experiences, incompleteness, “not just-right” phenomena, obsessive-compulsive disorder and TS, including OCD and/or TS, in all combination searches. We also searched for the references cited in each article previously found that referred to the aforementioned terms. Thirtyone articles were included in the study. Results:Subjective experiences, in particular, the sensory phenomena, were important phenotypic variables in the characterization of the tic-related OCD subtype and were more frequent in the early-onset OCD subtype. There is a paucity of studies using structured interviews to assess sensory phenomena, their epidemiology and the etiological mechanisms associated with sensory phenomena. Conclusion:The current review provides some evidence that sensory phenomena can be useful to identify more homogenous subgroups of OCD and TS patients and should be included as important phenotypic variables in future clinical, genetic, neuroimaging, and treatment-response studies.

Adrenal leiomyosarcoma — rare mesenchymal tumor, which is diagnosed most often after it reaches a large size. Primary adrenal leiomyosarcoma is extremely rare: in the English-language literature, only 45 cases were previously reported. We report the case of a 46-year-old man with the formation of the right adrenal gland measuring 12x8x7,5 cm. The patient underwent right-sided adrenalectomy, nephrectomy, and plastic of the inferior vena cava. The phenotype was confirmed by light microscopy and immunohistochemistry. Microscopic examination of the tumor is represented by fusiform and polymorphic cells that form multidirectional bundle structures with a high rate of mitosis. Immunohistochemically, tumor cells were positive for smooth muscle actin, CD-34, CD-117.

Introduction: Acute suppurative parotitis is a rare finding in the neonate. It is commonly caused by Staphylococcus aureus, but other bacterial isolates may be emerging. It is a novel disease for this age group and requires unique management. Only 32 cases of neonatal suppurative parotitis have been described in the English-language literature over the last 35 years. Case Report: We describe a case of a 14-day-old male who presented to the pediatric emergency department with a 24-hour history of swelling and redness of the right cheek. On examining him, purulent material was seen inside his oral cavity. He was subsequently hospitalized with a diagnosis of neonatal suppurative parotitis and received five days of parenteral antibiotics with improvement in swelling and redness. He was discharged home with oral antibiotics. Conclusion: Although neonatal suppurative parotitis is rare, it should be suspected in newborns presenting with an erythematous pre-auricular mass with or without any predisposing factors. We describe a rare case of acute suppurative parotitis in a neonate and review the published literature.

AbstractObjective:To report an extremely rare case of gastroesophageal carcinoma presenting initially with salivary gland metastasis.Method:Case report and English language literature review concerning metastasis of adenocarcinoma of the gastroesophageal junction, with emphasis on clinical presentation. Results:A 66-year-old man presented to the ENT rapid-access clinic with a right-sided neck swelling located in the tail of the right parotid gland. Fine needle aspiration cytology suggested adenocarcinoma. An urgent Oesophago-Gastro-Duodenoscopy (OGD) and biopsy confirmed the presence of the primary tumour at the gastroesophageal junction. Conclusion:To our best knowledge, this is the first report in the English language literature of a parotid mass as the presenting feature of gastroesophageal carcinoma.

This paper provides a brief overview of modern methods and approaches used for automatic processing of text information. In English-language literature, this area of science is called NLP-Natural Language Processing. The very name suggests that the subject of analysis (and for many tasks – and synthesis) are materials presented in one of the natural languages (and for a number of tasks – in several languages simultaneously), i.e. national languages of communication between people. Programming languages are not included in this group. In Russian-language literature, this area is called Computer (or mathematical) linguistics. NLP (computational linguistics) usually includes speech analysis along with text analysis, but in this review speech analysis does not consider. The review used materials from original works, monographs, and a number of articles published the «Open Systems.DBMS» journal.

There is the task of studying the degree of influence of the famous works of F.M. Dostoevsky on English-language literature and culture in general. Statements are given and the opinion of the great English-speaking literary classics about the works of Dostoevsky and the Russian-language novel is described. The author considers the main critical articles, essays and theses related to the Dostoevsky and his works, written by famous English-speaking novelists and literary critics of that era and the next one. Among them: Matthew Arnold, George Gissing, George Meredith, Oscar Wilde and others. The article describes the interpretation of their opinions about the great Russian writer’s works and on the degree of his influence on the literary trends of his contemporaries. The author gives a comparison between the images of the characters of the Dostoevsky novels and other English-speaking authors, which is sometimes amazing. In addition, the article presents a list of special courses that are currently being studied at universities and colleges in the USA and Great Britain dedicated to Dostoevsky.

Dementia is a condition caused by and associated with separate physical changes in the brain. The signs and symptoms of dementia are very similar across the diverse types, and it is difficult to diagnose the category by behavioral symptoms alone. Diagnostic criteria have relied on a constellation of signs and symptoms, but it is critical to understand the neuroanatomical differences among the dementias for a more precise diagnosis and subsequent management. With this regard, this review aims to explore the neuroanatomical aspects of dementia to better understand the nature of distinctive subtypes, signs, and symptoms. This is a review of English language literature published from 1996 to the present day of peer-reviewed academic and medical journal articles that report on older people with dementia. This review examines typical neuroanatomical aspects of dementia and reinforces the importance of a thorough understanding of the neuroanatomical characteristics of the different types of dementia and the differential diagnosis of them.

The article looks at book production and circulation from the point of view of translators, who, as purchasers and readers of foreign-language books, are an important mediating force in the selection of literature for translation. Taking the German publisher Tauchnitz's series ‘Collection of British Authors’ and its circulation in Finland in the nineteenth and early twentieth century as a case in point, the article argues that the increased availability of English-language books facilitated the acquiring and honing of translators' language skills and gradually diminished the need for indirect translating. Book history and translation studies meet here in an examination of the role of the Collection in Finnish translators' work.
