Objective: To investigate the effect of nursing intervention based on behavioral shaping therapy on blood glucose index, self-efficacy and subjective well-being in elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods: 100 elderly patients with T2DM admitted to our hospital from February 2019 to January 2020 were selected and divided into control group and observation group according to the random number table method, 50 cases in each group. The control group adopted the nursing method of routine education combined with motivation interview, and the observation group adopted the nursing method of behavior shaping on the basis of the control group. The fasting plasma glucose (FPG), 2h postprandial plasma glucose (2h PG), glycosylated hemoglobin (HbAlc) level, self-management ability score, diabetes management self-efficacy scale (DMSES) score and subjective well-being score were compared between the two groups before and after intervention. Results: The levels of FPG, 2h PG and HbAlc in the two groups were significantly decreased, and those of the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). After intervention, the total scores of self-management ability, DMSES and subjective well-being of the two groups were significantly increased, and the observation group was significantly higher than the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Behavioral shaping therapy combined with routine education and motivation interview can significantly improve the self-management ability, self-efficacy, blood glucose index and subjective well-being of elderly patients.

Background: We aimed to explore the effect of health education and nursing intervention model based on behavioral change theories on self-efficacy and self-management behaviors in patients with chronic heart failure. Methods: Eighty-six patients with chronic heart failure treated in the First Hospital Affiliated to Harbin Medical University (Harbin, China) from November 2016 to January 2018 were enrolled in this study. The patients were evenly divided into control group and observation group (43 patients in each group), according to the random number table method. Patients in the control group received a routine health education intervention. Patients in the observation group received health education based on behavioral change theories in addition to the routine nursing intervention. The health education included mastering of the disease-related theoretical knowledge, daily self-management and exercising guidance. After 8 weeks of intervention, the self-efficacy level, self-management ability and quality of life were assessed and compared between the two groups. Results: The self-management behavior score in the observation group was higher than those in the control group (P=0.002). The chronic disease general self-efficacy (GSE) score in the observation group was higher than those in the control group (P=0.002). The quality of life (MHL) score was in the observation group was higher than those in the control group. The patient satisfaction score in the observation group was higher than those in the control group (P=0.021). Conclusions: Health education based on behavioral change theories can relieve symptoms of chronic heart failure, and improve patients’ self-efficacy level, self-management ability and patient satisfaction.

Objective The current study examined the impact of a non-governmental organization’s academic tutoring and mentoring program on the social-emotional learning (SEL) and subjective well-being of 240 marginalized young women. Participants One-hundred-fifty-nine currently enrolled 7-12th grade students with a mean age of 16.39, SD=1.55; 40 students who were enrolled in college with a mean age of 20.25, SD=1.57, and 25 who had graduated from college with a mean age of 22.48, SD=2.16 and their leaders participated. Methods All participants completed in a survey that assessed the degree of participants’ locus of control, expectations of success (self-efficacy), current goals and career-related aspirations and their satisfaction with their relationships and life in general. Twenty-one of the participants and all leaders also were interviewed. Results Regression analyses revealed that both the participants’ self-management and the leader’s locus of control were significant predictors of the participants’ internal locus of control. Congruent with interview findings, latent structural equation analysis revealed that three manifest variables of social-emotional learning, “self-management”, “social awareness”, and “self-efficacy” had direct positive effects on participants’ subjective well-being (i.e., their satisfaction with life and relationships). Conclusion Culturally sensitive approaches to mentoring and training are needed and helpful. Future research should be carried out to mitigate design limitations and further the current study’s addition to the body of research on social-emotional learning and well-being.

Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of insulin glargine combined with acarbose in the treatment of elderly patients with diabetes. Methods: One hundred and forty-four elderly patients with diabetes who received treatment between December 2016 and December 2017 in Binzhou People’s Hospital, China, were selected and divided into a control group and an observation group, 72 each, using random number table. The control group was treated with insulin glargine, while the observation group was treated with insulin glargine combined with acarbose. The therapeutic effect, improvement of quality of life and adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, fasting blood glucose (FBG), 2h postprandial blood glucose (PBG) and glycosylated hemoglobin (Hb Alc) of the two groups were lower than those before treatment, and the decrease degree of the observation group was significantly larger than that of the control group (P<0.05). The time needed for blood glucose reaching the standard level and daily insulin dosage of the observation group were significantly lower than that of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). SF-36 scale score of the observation group was significantly better than the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: The combination of insulin Glargine and Acarbose can significantly control the blood glucose level of elderly patients with diabetes, improve the biochemical indicators, and enhance the quality of life. The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of regular exercise participation as an intervention for enhancing subjective well-being in an HIV-1 population. Specifically, this study investigated the effects of a 12-week exercise intervention on physical self-efficacy, positive and negative mood, and life satisfaction. Participants (N = 33) were randomly assigned to either an aerobic exercise training group (n = 11), a resistance weight-training group (n = 12), or a stretching/flexibility control group (n = 10). Results indicated that both aerobic and weight-training exercise interventions enhanced physical self-efficacy, positive and negative mood, and satisfaction with life. Conversely, control participants experienced declines in each of these variables. Taken together, the findings seem to suggest that exercise may be one therapeutic modality capable of enhancing components of subjective well-being and should be considered a complimentary therapy for treating the psychological and emotional manifestations associated with a positive HIV-1 diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Diabetes is a chronic, metabolic disease, which is commonly associated with increased blood glucose levels caused by impaired secretion or function of insulin. Therefore, daily blood glucose control, adherence to a dietary and pharmaceutical regimen, regular physical activity, and foot care are fundamental components of disease management. In order to optimize effective self-management, patients need to be trained. Teach-back is a method which aims to improve patients' understanding and perception of treatment regimens based on the interaction between patient and caregiver. AIM: This study was conducted to investigate the impact of the teach-back method on the effectiveness of self-management in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). METHODS: A total of 74 patients with T2D were included in the study by convenience sampling at the Endocrine and Metabolism Clinic. The subjects were assigned to control or intervention group. Data collection was performed by using a demographic data form and a self-efficacy questionnaire that were provided to the patients before and 1 month after training. The patients in the intervention group received a 5-session training program using the teach-back method. The control group received only routine programs. One month after completion of the training sessions, the questionnaires were completed by the subjects in the 2 groups, and the data obtained were analyzed. RESULTS: In contrast to the control group, mean and standard deviation of self-efficacy were significantly higher in the intervention group one month after training by the teach-back method than before training. The two groups did not significantly differ regarding mean score of self-efficacy before training, but there was a significant difference one month after training: the mean score of self-efficacy in the intervention group was significantly higher than in the control group (p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: Teach-back is a training procedure aimed at improving patients' understanding of treatment regimens. This study showed that teach-back significantly improved patients' self-efficacy even over as short a period as one month. It may be interesting to study the long-term effects of this simple but effective training method.

Objective: To investigate the effect of evidence-based nursing intervention in elderly patients with arrhythmia after acute myocardial infarction. Methods: 146 elderly patients with arrhythmia after acute myocardial infarction treated in our hospital from February 2016 to March 2017 were selected as research objects. According to the random number method, patients were divided into control group (73 cases, traditional nursing) and observation group (73 cases, evidence-based nursing intervention). The clinical effects and nursing satisfaction of the two groups were compared. Results: The hospital stay, average bed rest time, hospitalization cost, and incidence of arrhythmia complications in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). After nursing, the four grades of heart function and satisfaction of nursing in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group. The difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions: In elderly patients with arrhythmia after acute myocardial infarction, evidence-based nursing intervention was adopted. The patient's health has been greatly improved and the doctor-patient relationship has been significantly improved. This method is worth promoting.

Background: Autism significantly affects mental health and lowers subjective well-being (SWB). The rehabilitation therapy of autism is attracting widespread attention. We aimed to explore the effects of image-sandplay therapy on the mental health and SWB of children with autism. Methods: A total of 90 children with autism treated in Changchun Women and Children Health Hospital from Jan 2019 to Jun 2020 were enrolled by convenient sampling method. They were randomly divided into control (n=45) and observation (n=45) groups. The observation group had a 12-week image-sandplay therapy based on conventional rehabilitation therapy. In the image-sandplay therapy, the one-to-one intervention was provided once a week, 60 min in each. Autism treatment evaluation checklist (ATEC), autism behavior checklist (ABC), Conners parent symptom questionnaire (PSQ), satisfaction with life scale (SWLS), and positive and negative affect scale for children (PANAS-C) of the two groups were assessed. Results: After intervention, the observation group showed lower scores in ATEC scale and ABC scale than the control group, and the difference show statistical significance (P<0.05). Meanwhile, the observation group showed significantly lower scores in PSQ scale than the control group, showing a significant difference (P<0.05). The observation group shows higher scores in SWLS scale and positive affect scores than the control group, as well as significantly lower negative affected scores than the control groups, showing a significant difference (P<0.05). Conclusion: Image-sandplay therapy can improve the symptoms of children with autism and is conducive to promoting mental health and increasing SWB. It is a feasible and effective rehabilitation method.

Dietary therapy for diabetes is the most basic way to manage blood glucose. Currently, the nutritional intake rate of diabetic patients in Korea is beyond the recommended rate of the Korean Diabetes Association, showing large amounts of carbohydrates in foods consumed as snacks with an additional focus on sugar. Thus, it is necessary to support healthy dietary habits through snack control. This study is a random assignment experimental study with a total of 56 participants; 28 participants were in the control group, while the remaining 28 patients had type 2 diabetes and had visited Kyung Hee University Hospital. The experimental group with snack control education and telephone coaching exhibited a higher self-management score (t = –9.494, P < 0.001), perceived social support score (t = 7.201, P < 0.001), and self-efficacy score (t = 7.185, P < 0.001) than the control group. Additionally, the experimental group showed lower levels of glycosylated hemoglobin and average blood glucose compared to the control group (t = –4.820, P < 0.001). Thus, snack control education and telephone coaching are effective in improving diabetes self-management behavior, perceived social support, self-efficacy, and reducing glycosylated hemoglobin and average blood glucose. These results confirm the usefulness of snack education materials, and I suggest snack control education as a means of arbitration to improve the self-care of diabetics.

Controlled blood glucose level is one of the success indicator of the diabetes management. A good comprehension, high self-efficacy, and good family support is needed to encourage and strengthen the effort of individuals to achieved good behavioral diabetes self-management, which helped to control blood glucose level. This study aimed to determine the Psychoeducation Modification’s effects on comprehension, self-efficacy, family support, behavioral diabetes self-management, and blood glucose level of people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study used pre and post test control group design. Respondents of this research are population with T2DM and their families who are undergoing outpatient treatment at Internal Medicine Outpatient Unit of Dr. H. Moh. Anwar Sumenep Hospital (n = 40). Collecting data included the patients comprehension, self-efficacy, behavioral self-management of diabetes, family support, and random blood glucose level. Data collection used questionnaires and the laboratory test of blood glucose level, then analyzed by a different test with the α value
