Which involve creation of a new product, a new method of production, the opening of a new market, the capture of a new source of supply, or a new organization of industry. Entrepreneurship of SMEs performance in knowledge-based economy. In addition, this study also explores the challenges which are facing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria. The significance of the study will add to the knowledge about current issues relating to SMEs in Nigeria The main thrust of this study is challenging which face Entrepreneur of small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) on business performance in Nigeria.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to understand the characteristics of intellectual capital (IC) in Mexican small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Due to the shift from traditional factors of production to knowledge-based economy, an understanding of the role of IC has become crucial for SMEs to develop a competitive advantage. Design/methodology/approach – This study takes an in depth look at the three components of IC: human, organizational, and external capital. In order to do so, a quantitative study on 445 SMEs was conducted based on data collected through an online survey. A structural equation model is proposed that is a fit with the reality of Mexican SMEs. Regional differences are highlighted by means of multigroup analysis. Findings – The results suggest that the features of human and organizational capital are consistent with previous studies on SMEs in emerging economies. However, external capital shows some distinctive characteristics unique to Mexican context. Practical implications – Implications for managers and policymakers are discussed, whereby an adaptation of programs and policies are required to fit the Mexican context at the national and regional levels. Originality/value – To the best of the authors knowledge, this is the first study that observes the components of IC in Mexican SMEs.

In this era of knowledge-based economy, intellectual capital (IC) is considered as a critical component in an organizational effort to emphasize on accomplishing competitive advantages and enhancing value added for the organization. Besides concentrating only on new product innovations, small and medium enterprises should also be engaged in managing IC in accordance to Islamic teachings. An understanding to Islamic ethics and its upshots for superior performance facilitates entrepreneurs in managing IC strategically. This paper aims to re-scrutinize several contributions in Islamic ethics and IC in SME entrepreneurial researches, ascertain the main elements of IC as well as Islamic work ethics (IWE); and thus show how IWE is relevant for research in the area of IC.

Triple helix model is a model of a knowledge-based economy, which collaborates with the university, business, and government sectors to help small and medium enterprises (SMEs) boost their business. The issue is the three actors have not yet synergized optimally in the development of SMEs. Hence, this study was to identify the critical success factors of the triple helix model for SMEs. This study employed a meta-ethnography and factor analysis to obtain components and indicators of the success factors. The result showed that 37 items of critical success factors have good content validity and excellent homogeneity reliability. Based on these success factors, a triple helix model consisting of six stages has developed. It indicates that these critical success factors make an essential contribution to the development and success of SMEs to achieve the goal of the program.JEL Classification: L52, L53

The aim of this chapter is to shed light on the concept and application of intellectual capital in the food industry in Kuching, Malaysia. There is no doubt that intellectual capital is a most important strategic asset for the success of organizations. In a competitive business environment, intellectual capital has been a vital element of success, particularly in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). The purpose of this study is to examine the role of intellectual capital in order to enhance the business performance of SMEs operating in the food industry in Kuching, Malaysia. In this chapter, three components of intellectual capital, namely human capital, customer capital, and structural capital, are employed to examine the role of intellectual capital in SMEs. A structured questionnaire with a five-point Likert Scale was used to gather the data from the targeted respondents by using a convenience-sampling technique. A total of 200 questionnaire sets were distributed to the targeted respondents. From the total distributed questionnaires, a total of 194 respondents gave their feedback. Four research hypotheses were addressed to find the objectives of this study. To test the proposed research hypotheses, multiple regression technique was used. The findings of this study show that the three components of intellectual capital collectively and individually have positive and significant relationships with the business performance of baking SMEs. Subsequently, the four hypotheses of this study were supported. This chapter is a preliminary study about the baking SMEs operating in the food sector in Malaysia.

Traditionally SMEs have resource constraints in the form of information, finance and reach in the market, ICT is vital to promote strategy, performance, and growth. Moreover, Oman boasts of very high mobile phone penetration and highly connected youth, the impact of ICT in the performance of SMEs becomes all the more pronounced. This paper focuses to study the impact of the use of ICT on the organization performance in small and medium enterprises in Oman. In a knowledge-based economy, SMEs face both opportunities and challenges due to the development of ICTs. Within the country, SMEs are of huge economic and social importance and play an important role in mobilizing domestic financial resources and competencies, as well as increasing savings and channeling them into investment areas. Here comes the role of technology, where the development and innovation in ICT increase the productivity of the individual and benefit from the knowledge, science, and technology. The significance of the findings of this study is valuable to all the stakeholders – owners/managers, sponsors, entrepreneurs, financial institutions and government. The outcome of the study point towards the direction needed to make informed decisions and formulate policies about ICT investments in the country.

Importance of the Small Medium Enterprises sector cannot be overemphasized in the industrial development of a country. 90% of all the enterprises in Pakistan are consisting of Small Medium Enterprises; 80% labor force is employed in non-agriculture sector, Small Medium Enterprises are sharing annually 40% to GDP of the country (SMEDA). However providing huge part in the development of the country Small Medium Enterprises are still encountering with some perilous pitfalls and the survival of the Small Medium Enterprises is getting harder. Now the economy system of the country has been converted from the production based to knowledge-based economy. The review of the previous results pointed out that the twenty first century is the era of technological and intellectual capital and it has added the ultimate importance in the knowledge-based economy. Currently, the economy is based on knowledge-based economy and it is based on the intellectual capital. Therefore, it is difficult for Small Medium Enterprises in Pakistan to transfigure and acquire the concept and applications of intellectual capital in order to counter and mitigate the emerging economics problems

Ibn Khaldun’s magnificent reflections on the economic growth and philosophical insights into the behavior of human beings and society, as well as interrelationships among various disciplines such as politics, economics, sociology and education have reckoned him the outstanding figure in the social sciences and one of the greatest philosophers in the world. A comprehending to Ibn Khaldun’s Economic Philosophy and its outcomes for outstanding business performance assists entrepreneurs in managing intellectual capital (IC) purposefully. IC is deliberated as an indispensable factor in an organizational exertion to accentuate on bringing about competitive gains and augmenting value creations in knowledge-based economy. Instead of engaging merely on innovativeness of new products, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) entrepreneurs must also concentrate on administering IC in accordance to Ibn Khaldun’s Economic Philosophy. This paper targets to appreciate and re-examine contributions in Ibn Khaldun’s Economic Philosophy and IC in entrepreneurial researches and indicate how Ibn Khaldun’s Theory of Development is pertinent to research in the expanse of IC.

This chapter presents an in-depth analysis on the relationship between intellectual capital and business performance in view to highlight gaps in the knowledge of women entrepreneurship in Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The creation of intellectual capital is crucial to cope with organizational competitive issues in the present dynamics of globalized economics. A conceptual model is developed linking different dimensions of intellectual capital to business performance. In doing so, the sample of 167 respondents from women SME entrepreneurs in Kelantan was utilized. The survey data were analyzed using SPSS version 22. The results of the study reveal that intellectual capital significantly influences business performance. This enables entrepreneurs and scholars to make appropriate decisions that can foster business progress. Moreover, the empirical study presented in this chapter is the first of its kind over women SMEs from multiple sectors operating in Kelantan state located at the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

In this setting of making and keeping up an upper hand for the SME's, it is essential for them to utilize the scholarly capital of their workers, in an effective and capable way, to build their potential for development. The point of this article is to show, through a unique argumentation, in view of the investigation of specific writing, the significant job that scholarly capital plays in the area of SME's to acquire a genuine and feasible upper hand. The examination depends on the basic critical review of literature based on intellectual capital, upper hand, business execution, development, and learning society. The examination conceptualizes the system of scholarly capital and considers the job of development as an interceding variable and learning as a directing element. The reasonable idea of the investigation is the fundamental constraint.

The paper deals with an updated Greiners model, defining its final stage,Development through Alliance, in the frame of actual knowledge based economy, and with introduction and characterization of its final crisis,Incompatibility crisis. The research method is based on analysis of SMEs characteristics that use concentrated energies technologies, correlated with characteristics of actual economy. This led to some elements of the final stage of Greiners model, which were developed together with managerial methods of organizational development as well as solutions to avoid or ameliorate the final crisis ofIncompatibility, applied to SMEs, using the approached technologies. It was also identified a trend concerning small and medium enterprises (SMEs) evolution from Romania, which use concentrated energies technologies. Some generic development solutions for the mentioned organizations in actual economy are provided.
