Background: Aim of the study were to assess the impact of education on knowledge, attitude and practice of Hepatitis B vaccine among medical students and to educate the students regarding Hepatitis B vaccination.Methods: Non-randomized before and after comparison study was conducted to evaluate changes in knowledge, attitude and practice of Hepatitis B vaccination (HBV), assigning structured questionnaire of 26 different statements concerning knowledge, attitude and practice by pre and post educational intervention on Hepatitis B and its vaccination.Results: The study was conducted among 100 second year medical students. The response rate was 100%. There was statistically significant improvement in knowledge from pre-test mean scores for modes of transmission (87.4+4.70 vs 95.8+1.61; p=0.0001), preventive measures (92+0.47 vs 98+0.94; p=0.001) and Hepatitis B vaccine (71+4.72 to 84.7+6.65; p=0.0001) to post-test. While the increase in mean scores from pre-test for attitude (68.6+9.21 vs 77.43+11.1) and practice (55+25.41 vs 65.6+32.6) were statistically significant in post-test (p=0.0001; p=0.001 respectively).Conclusions: Structured educational intervention among medical students about Hepatitis B vaccination showed improved knowledge and behaviour and also increased the percentage of students willing to get screened and their participation in health education programmes related to Hepatitis B. However, there is slight lack of knowledge regarding the transmission of Hepatitis B and its vaccination schedule. In this regard, implementation and evaluation of educational intervention is needed as a preventative measure.

Background Hepatitis B imposes a major public health problem with an increased risk of occupational exposure among unvaccinated health care workers. This study was conducted to determine the Hepatitis B vaccination status, along with the knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding Hepatitis B, among preclinical medical students of a medical college in Nepal. Materials and methods This descriptive study was conducted among preclinical students of a medical college in Kathmandu, Nepal from 6th July to 14th July 2020. The whole sampling technique was used. Data were collected using a pretested, self-administered questionnaire which was emailed to individuals and analyzed with the statistical package for social sciences version-22. Results A total of 181 students participated in the study out of 198, giving a response rate of 91.4%. Among the study participants, only 67 (37%) were fully vaccinated against Hepatitis B while 71 (39.2%) were never vaccinated. For the majority (74.6%) of the non-vaccinated participants, the main reason for not getting vaccination was a lack of vaccination programs. Half the study participants (n = 92, 50.8%) had good knowledge, attitude and practice regarding hepatitis B. The median knowledge, attitude and practice scores towards Hepatitis B were 61.00 (57.00–66.00), 20(18.00–21.00) and 21(19.00–23.00) respectively. Conclusions The majority of preclinical medical students were not fully vaccinated against Hepatitis B and only half of them had acceptable knowledge, attitude and practice towards Hepatitis B, which makes them vulnerable to the infection. This might represent the situation of not only Nepal, but also all South Asian countries, and creates concern about whether students take the vaccination programs seriously. Since unavailability of vaccination program is the main cause of non-vaccination, we strongly recommend the provision of the Hepatitis B vaccination program to the preclinical medical students.

Background: Hepatitis B vaccine is the single most effective and safest strategy for the prevention of the disease among health care workers (HCW), trainees and medical students. There is scanty information on knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) regarding Hepatitis B vaccination among medical students who are likely to get exposed in the future as they start practicing. This study was undertaken to understand the knowledge, attitude and practice of hepatitis B vaccination among clinical medical students of Manipal College of Medical sciences at Pokhara, Nepal.Methods: Two hundred and four medical students were enrolled for an observational, cross-sectional study at Manipal College of Medical sciences at Pokhara, Nepal after obtaining ethical clearance from Institutional Review Committee. Answers to pre-tested questionnaire were collected. Knowledge, attitude and practice regarding Hepatitis B vaccination were studied. Results: All participants demonstrated good knowledge and positive attitude towards Hepatitis B infection and vaccination. However majority had poor practice towards it. Only 47.1% were completely vaccinated. The most common reason for non vaccination was that many thought they will vaccinate in internship or when they start practicing.Conclusion: Despite good knowledge and positive attitude towards Hepatitis B infection and vaccination, low rates of vaccination and poor practice was observed among HCW indicating the necessity of encouragement for vaccination and proper practices among them. All medical students should be immunized against Hepatitis B during their medical school. Regular Hepatitis B vaccination, educational and awareness programs must be conducted in coordination and with active participation of the medical students.Keywords: Attitude; Hepatitis B; knowledge; Medical students; Practice; Vaccination

Background: The Study was designed to assess the awareness of Pharmacovigilance and to evaluate the impact of an educational intervention.Methods: This was a questionnaire-based pre- and post-test educational interventional study. Students were given handouts containing information about pharmacovigilance one month before the educational intervention. A pre-validated 20-point questionnaire on (KAP) Knowledge, attitude, perception about Pharmacovigilance was distributed to second year medical students (n=115). An interactive educational intervention (Power point presentation) was designed. The chi-square test and unpaired paired t-test was used for statistical calculation.Results: The overall response rates were expressed as percentages, Mean±SD. The knowledge, attitude and perceptions of pharmacovigilance when compared before (pre-KAP) and after (post-KAP) the educational intervention, the correct response rates were found to be statistically significant (P<0.001). The feedback from the students was encouraging, handouts before the lecture classes helped them to easily grasp the pharmacovigilance concepts better during lectures.Conclusions: The study concluded that imparting the knowledge about pharmacovigilance and ADR reporting promotes drug safety and rational use of medicines in future.

Introduction. Vaccination is the primary method of preventing hepatitis B (HBV). Immunization performed according to the standard schedule often provides protective level of antibodies against HBV. However, the frequency deviation of the immunization schedule in children due to unjustified medical contraindication is the current problem in Russia. At the same time, there is currently no clear strategy for patients with significant deviations of the vaccination schedule, especially regarding extending the interval between the first and third administration of the HBV vaccine. The aim is to evaluate the immunological effects of vaccination against hepatitis B in the vaccination schedule deviation in healthy children and children with chronic diseases. Materials and methods. Eighty-one 0.7-11.7 year child with a disrupted schedule of vaccination against HBV was observed. The children were divided into two groups: children vaccinated within 12-35 months (group 1, n = 48) and children immunized more than 36 months after the first vaccination (group 2, n = 33). Children with chronic forms of pathology were included in both study groups. Blood tests for HBV antibodies after vaccination were performed 1-3 months after the third vaccination. Results. The average concentration of antibodies in the range of 10-1000 mMEd/ml in children of group 1 was significantly higher than in children of group 2 (p = 0.037). In addition, children with chronic diseases were significantly more likely to have an anti-HBs titer higher than 1000 mMEd/ml after the third vaccination than healthy children (p = 0.012). Conclusion. An increase in the interval between the first and third administration of the hepatitis B vaccine leads to a rise in the number of children who are not immune to hepatitis B. Chronic diseases fail to affect the immune response due to the introduction of the hepatitis B vaccine, even if the immunization schedule is disrupted.

Background: Hepatitis B infection is a serious global public health problem. About two billion people are infected with hepatitis B Virus (HBV) all over the world. The prevalence of HBV infection in India is 4%(2%-8%) with more prevalence among health care workers. Medical students represent a group that is at high-risk for acquiring and spreading hepatitis B infection. Despite increasing prevalence of HBV infection, there is paucity of knowledge, attitude and practice on HBV among medical students. Objective of the study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices on prevention of hepatitis B infection among medical students of Sree Mookambika Institute of Medical Sciences, Kulasekharam.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted among 205 MBBS students using a pretested self-administered questionnaire for assessing the knowledge, attitude, and practice on prevention of HBV infection after obtaining informed consent from the participants.Results: Among 205 MBBS students, correct response towards Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices were given by 77.07%, 77.56%, and 76.59% respectively, 79.5% of the students were fully vaccinated; 20.5% were partially vaccinated against Hepatitis B Virus infection.Conclusions: The medical students are at a very high risk of contracting HBV infection during their training period in view of low HBV vaccine uptake rate and high chance of accidental exposure to blood infected with HBV. Creating awareness among medical students on various aspects of Hepatitis B infection through health education programs before their exposure in medical colleges and subjecting them to active immunization against HBV are mandatory to control the spread of Hepatitis B viral infection.

Introduction: The doctors and paramedical staff are at high risk of developingHepatitis B, infection. Hepatitis B vaccine is mandatory for medical students prior to admissionin medical colleges. After completion of vaccination determination of anti HBS is not in practice.All over the world some people remain non responders and don’t develop adequate antibodytitre essential for protection against hepatitis B virus. This study is therefore designed to estimatethe anti HBs titre among the medical students, who have completed three doses of hepatitisB vaccine. Objectives: To determine the serum anti HBs antibodies among the outgoing finalyear MBBS students who have received complete 03 doses of hepatitis B vaccine. StudyDesign: Descriptive cross sectional study. Place and Duration: This study was conductedfrom November 2010 to December 2015 at Biochemistry department Punjab Medical College incollaboration with Nawaz Medicare Hospital Faisalabad. Material and Methods: Two hundredand fifty nine female medical (MBBS) students from outgoing classes during the period ofNovember 2010 to December 2015 were enrolled in this study. All subjects were at the ageof 22-24 years at the time of sampling. Each received 03 doses of injection Engerix B, 10mcg/0.5ml each in a schedule of 0, 01, 06 months since the last 05 years. The blood sampleswere allowed to clot and serum was separated. The anti HBs and HBsAg were determined by3rd generation ELISA method. Results: A total 259 female medical students from outgoing finalyear MBBS classes were enrolled in this study. Among these subjects 48 (18.5%) had serumanti HBs levels < 10 IU/L, 77 subjects (29.7%) have levels 10-20 IU/L, 116 subjects (44.8 %)have serum levels 21-100 IU/L, while 18 subjects (10%) have > 100 IU/L serum anti HBs levels.Conclusion: The incidence of non responders and poor responders is higher among thevaccinees in this study as compared to foreign studies after five years of Hepatitis B vaccination.
