The tropical bed bug Cimex hemipterus (Fabricius, 1803) was reliably detected in Belgorod in 2020 for the first time. Specimens were collected in dormitories for foreign students at both Belgorod State National Research University and Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov. Retrospective analyses of specimens collected in earlier years reveal that Cimex hemipterus was already present in Belgorod in 2013, and subsequently ousted the cosmopolitan species Cimex lectularius Linnaeus, 1758 which inhabited the area earlier.   AcknowledgementsThe author is grateful to professor V.B. The tropical bedbug Cimex hemipterus (Fabricius, 1803) was found for the first time in Russia: in many districts of Moscow in 2015–16, in four districts of St Petersburg, in Moscow Prov., Smolensk and Saransk in 2016. Unusual activity during daytime in autumn was characteristic of individuals of this species in different places of St Petersburg. C. lectularius Linnaeus, 1758 was absent in St Petersburg and Moscow in places where C. hemipterus was found, and apparently the former species is displaced by the latter. In all localities, C. hemipterus is resistant to insecticides used for controlling C. lectularius. It may be expected that C. hemipterus will overwinter successfully in heated facilities in Russia and spread to other regions where it can displace C. lectularius.

A special issue of the journal "Chemistry of Plant Raw Materials" is published on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Siberian State Technological University and the 60th anniversary of the Siberian State Aerospace University named after Academician M.F. Reshetnev. In 2016, the Reference University was created in Krasnoyarsk – Siberian State University of Science and Technology, by combining these two largest higher educational institutions. The review article presents a brief historical reference, the main directions of pedagogical and scientific activity of the Department of Machines and Apparatus of Industrial Technologies. The main directions and prospects of work created on the basis of the department of scientific laboratory "Deep processing of plant raw materials" related to solving problems of deep complex processing of vegetal raw materials are presented.

Because quantitative biology requires skills and concepts from a disparate collection of different disciplines, the scientists of the near future will increasingly need to rely on collaborations to produce results. Correspondingly, students in disciplines impacted by quantitative biology will need to be taught how to create and engage in such collaborations. In response to this important curricular need, East Tennessee State University and Georgia Technological University/Emory University cooperated in an unprecedented curricular experiment in which theoretically oriented students at East Tennessee State designed biophysical models that were implemented and tested experimentally by biomedical engineers at the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Georgia Technological University and Emory University. Implementing the collaborations between two institutions allowed an assessment of the student collaborations from before the groups of students had met for the first time until after they had finished their projects, thus providing insight about the formation and conduct of such collaborations that could not have been obtained otherwise.

The article presents the results of empirical research on ethnopsychological groups of people living in different regions of Ukraine in the context of intercultural ideological systems. In particular, residents of Ukraine and foreign students from Africa and Middle East, which study at Sumy State University, were invited to share their impressions from the listened dumas, performed by Canadian bandurist Victor Mishalow during his concert tour in Ukraine. They also watched and listened to video recordings of such folk dumas as «Cossack Golota», «Marusya Boguslavka» performed by kobzar Mykola Budnyk and bandura player Fedir Zharko. Students analyzed the characters’ images, expressed their understanding and attitude to characters’ actions and compared them with the national heroes of their own countries. The national peculiarities of the worldview of Ukrainians, representatives of Africa and the Middle East expressed in their language are defined. The language itself is the core of people’s psyche, way of thinking, and identity of ethnic group’s moral and ethical norms of life. The analysis of folk art helps to emphasize the peculiarity of foreign students’ perception of words, rhythm, music, and the symbolic system of folk poetic works. Author notes that the psychological of figurative system of Ukrainian dumas and folk songs of the mentioned peoples has a purely national color: it is a category of national outlook and at the same time is a artistic and aesthetic category. The solution of these problems forms an understanding of the specific of national characters and the national world in folk poetic works of the peoples of Africa, the Middle East and Ukrainian folk dumas, which is the main purpose of the study and its novelty, because such typological comparisons are investigated for the first time. These experimental studies, the development of the ideas of dumas studies and studies on a national character, the peculiarities of a national world perception, world outlook and world expression have substantiated the need for a deeper study of Ukrainian dumas’ role in the formation of the national personality during intercultural communication.

Summary Purpose: to determine the relationship between achievement motivation and the attitudes of schoolchildren of 11-17 years old and students of 18-21 years old to independent sports and passing control standards in the discipline \”Physical Education\”. Material: 1576 schoolchildren (boys n = 780 and girls n = 796) of comprehensive schools of Belgorod, Stary Oskol, Stroitel and Shebekino (Belgorod region, Russian Federation) and 246 students (men n = 127) were surveyed. and women n = 119) Belgorod State Technological University named after V.G. Shukhov (Belgorod, Russian Federation). The questionnaire consisted of three blocks of questions: the 1st block of questions - questions aimed at determining the age, sex, place of study of the respondent; 2nd block of questions - 8 questions, allowing to assess the attitude of the respondent to independent sports activities and the desire to take control standards of the discipline Y’Physical Education\”; 3rd block of questions is a test of 20 questions, developed by A.A. Rean, to assess the motivation to achieve success and avoid failures. Results: the motivation for avoiding failures was diagnosed in 5% male students and 10% female students. A direct correlation between achievement motivation and the attitude of schoolchildren and students towards independent sports activities and passing control standards has been revealed. Conclusions: there are no differences in the correlation between the relationship between achievement motivation and attitudes toward independent sports by gender. Schoolchildren and students with motivation to achieve regular self-exercise. Schoolchildren and students with a pronounced motivation for avoiding failures prefer a passive way of life. They do not want to pass standards on the discipline \”Physical Education\” and do not go in for sports on their own.

The objective of this paper is to document the experience of developing and implementing a second-year course in an engineering professional spine that was developed in a first-tier research university and relies on project-based core courses. The main objective of this spine is to develop the students’ cognitive and employability skills that will allow them to stand out from the crowd of other engineering graduates.The spine was developed and delivered for the first time in the academic year 2010-2011 for first-year general engineering students. In the year 2011-2012, those students joined different programs, and accordingly the second-year course was tailored to align with the different programs’ learning outcomes. This paper discusses the development and implementation of the course in the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) department.

The paper provides the results of seven-year study of downy mildew on Skadovsky Zvenigorod Biological Station of Moscow State University (ZBS MSU, Moscow Region). A total of 29 species of Peronosporales (Oomycota) were revealed during the study. An annotated list of species is presented, among them Peronospora anemones is recorded for the first time for Russia, P. chelidonii and P. stachydis are new for the European part of Russia, 8 species are new for the Moscow Region.

Bed bugs, Cimex lectularius and C. hemipterus, are common blood-sucking ectoparasites of humans with a large geographical distribution, worldwide. In France, little is known about the status of bed bugs’ infestation and their resistance to insecticides, particularly, pyrethroids. Here, we aimed to find mutations in the kdr gene, known to be involved in resistance to insecticides. We gathered bed bugs from various infested locations, including 17 private houses, 12 HLM building complex, 29 apartments, 2 EHPAD, and 2 immigrants’ residences. A total of 1211 bed bugs were collected and morphologically identified as C. lectularius. Two fragments of the kdr gene, encompassing codons V419L and L925I, were successfully amplified for 156 specimens. We recorded sense mutation in the first amplified fragment (kdr1) in 89 out of 156 (57%) samples, in which in 61 out of 89 (68.5%) sequences, a change of valine (V) into leucine (L) V419L was observed. Within the second fragment (kdr2), a homozygous mutation was recorded in 73 out of 156 (46.7%) specimens at the codon 925. At this position, 43 out of 73 (58.9%) specimens had a sense mutation leading to the replacement of leucine (L) by isoleucine (I). Among 162 mutant sequences analyzed (89 for the kdr1 fragment and 73 for the kdr2 one), we detected single point mutation in 26.6%, while 73.4% presented the mutation in both kdr1 and kdr2 fragments. All modifications recorded in bed bug populations of Paris are described to be involved in the knockdown resistance (kdr) against pyrethroids.
