Organizational transformation and change scholars and researchers published many articles linking and studying the effect of vertical (transactional) leadership and horizontal (transformational) leadership on organizations during transformation. As much attention has been given in the last two decades to transformational leadership as being one of the trendiest leadership styles that focuses on the relation between followers and leaders to achieve better performance during organizational transformation, transactional leadership is still of benefit. This paper bridges organizational transformation and leadership literature and show the importance of transformational (horizontal) leadership alongside transactional (vertical) leadership in achieving efficient performance and optimal results during organizational transformation. Methodology: A literature review will be conducted based on literature related to certain key word and through a systematic literature review protocol. The purpose of this study is trying to see the effect of the transformational leadership to the job satisfaction, which already explain in the literature review that when the problem are simple and clear it was best to use transactional leadership, but when the company getting bigger then it supposed to use the transformational leadership, however in central java perspectives, these company is not that small yet is not that big as well. Then we do assume that the leader should be transformational and yet transactional. To test the hypothesized model, this study uses a survey questionnaire research design and a quantitative approach, Data collection by researchers is done by sending questionnaires to employees of the middle manager (supervisor; manager) level at 6 textile companies in Central Java Province via email. This shows that the data taken can be said to represent the condition of textile companies in Solo City, Central Java Province of the Republic of Indonesia.

Research aim: The aim of this research research was to examine whether leadership style mediated the relationship between psychological capital and readiness for change in the process of organizational transformation of state-owned and private companies in Jabodetabek, Indonesia. Design/ Methodology/ Approach: A survey was conducted on 149 employees from 256 of private companies and state own company’s. There were three instruments used: the scale of readiness for change from Hanpachern et.al (1997) and Armenakis et.al (1999; 2013), the scale of psychological capital from modified by Dewayani (2014), and the scale of leadership (transformational and transactional) from Bass and Riggio (2006). All three of these measurement scales have strong reliability scores between .82 to .91. The data was analysed by SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) and the STATCAL statistical program. Research findings: The results revealed that the perception of employee self-leadership fully mediated the relationship between psychological capital and readiness for change. Theoretical contribution/ Originality: It is suggested that in a process of transformation, the role of both the transactional and transformational leadership styles is important, but transformational leadership has more significant influence in the process of organizational transformation. although in theory and previous studies have stated that transformational leadership is more significant than transactional leadership in the process of organizational transformation, in this study shows the level of position in the organizational hierarchy also influences. In this study shows that at the staff level especially sacrificed proves that the transactional leadership style is more influential than the transformational leadership style. Thus, in the process of organizational transformation both leadership styles need to be applied depending on the group of employees that will be influenced. The lower the position, the more the need to apply transactional leadership style, the higher the position the possibility of the need for transformational leadership style. Practitioner/ Policy implication: From the description above, readiness for change can be interpreted as psychological and physical readiness, to understand the need for changes needed by the organization, individual beliefs to be able to implement planned or proposed changes and to believe that these changes can have a positive impact, both for themselves and organization. Research limitation: The sample size is too small to generalise the findings to the larger population. In addition to samples that are too small to be generalized to a larger population, this study also only involves samples in Jabodetabek so that it is less representative of the population in Indonesia, other than that it is only taken from the staff level so that the managerial level is not examined in this study. Purpose – The aim of this study is to examine the impact of the psychological contract, relational psychological contract and transactional psychological contract on organisational commitment as mediated by transactional leadership in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) context. The paper also explores the contractual status to determine if the theory remains valid, regardless of the fact whether one is employed as a contingent or permanent worker. Design/methodology/approach – This research made a longitudinal study spanning a 24-week time period. Data were collected using a self-administered structured questionnaire prepared in English and Arabic, at three stages representing three visits to the participating companies in the UAE. Pearson’s correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were used to examine the research hypotheses. Findings – The results show that the psychological contracts (transactional and relational) are positively related to transactional leadership. This study categorizes several consequential relationships between transactional leadership and organisational commitment. It also advocates that transactional leadership has only a fractional mediating role in relation to relational psychological contract, transactional psychological contract and organisational commitment. Practical implications – The findings suggest that practitioners and academics alike should note that the nature of the psychological contract employed will impact upon commitment and retention. Originality/value – This study makes a significant contribution to the body of literature, being the second part of a longitudinal study that aimed at testing the mediating effect of transactional leadership on organisational commitment within the context of the UAE. In the earlier study, the intent was to analyse the role of transformational leadership as a mediator between the psychological contract and organisational commitment. Typically, transformational leadership has been found to partially mediate the above mentioned relationships. In addition, it also advocates that there may be some value in considering the employees’ contractual status with regard to the psychological contract and its impact on organisational commitment.

PurposeThis study explores the role of transformational leadership, transactional leadership and resource supply in enhancing innovative work behaviour using the mediation model.Design/methodology/approachSurvey data was gathered from 314 local government staff from the six metropolitan assemblies in Ghana. Structural equation modelling was used for the analysis.FindingsThe results suggest that transformational and transactional leadership behaviours provided an impetus for innovative behaviours. Also, resource supply was found to mediate the relationship between transformational leadership behaviours and innovative work behaviour.Practical implicationsPublic managers can improve the innovative behaviour of public servants by providing resources for innovation, setting up proper reward structures, communicating vision clearly and clarifying performance expectations.Originality/valueThis is the first study to investigate innovative work behaviour within the Ghanaian local government sector and the context of a developing country in Africa. The study extends the literature on innovative work behaviour by exploring the role of leadership and resource supply.

Background: In the current study, the mediating roles of safety climate and trust in the relations between leadership styles which are transformational and transactional and safety outcomes which are safety compliance and safety participation are studied.Methods and Material: 101 blue-collar workers from a company in Zonguldak were participated in the study.Results: The results showed that transactional leadership is strongly associated with safety climate. As predicted, transformational leadership is found to be significantly correlated with safety participation.Conclusions: Moreover, transactional leadership is strongly correlated with safety compliance. Both safety climate and trust showed significant correlation with both of the safety outcomes. The mediating roles of trust and safety climate within the relations between transactional leadership and safety compliance and transformational leadership and safety participation are also found.

Kajian ini mengkaji hubungan gaya kepimpinan dan ciri kerja di Unit/Bahagian Perkhidmatan Maklumat sektor awam Malaysia. Seramai 31 orang pengurus Teknologi Maklumat sektor awam telah bekerjasama memberikan maklumat untuk kajian ini. Kepimpinan transaksi menunjukkan lebih banyak memberi pengiktirafan dan pujian kepada kakitangan profesional tetapi rendah dalam pemberian ganjaran. Kepimpinan transformasi menunjukkan gaya karismatik tinggi berbanding komponen lain dalam gaya kepimpinan transformasi. Ciri kerja menunjukkan tahap tinggi dalam kepentingan tugas dan keperluan bekerjasama dalam menjalankan tugas tetapi dengan tahap rendah dalam autonomi tugas. Kajian ini mendapati tiada hubungan bererti antara gaya kepimpinan dengan ciri kerja, tetapi wujud hubungan bererti antara kepimpinan transaksi dengan ciri kerja identiti tugas, maklum balas dari kerja, dan ciri kerja keseluruhan manakala kepimpinan transformasi pula hanya menunjukkan hubungan bererti dengan ciri kerja kepelbagaian kemahiran, dan tidak bererti kepada ciri kerja keseluruhan. Kata kunci: gaya kepimpinan; ciri kerja; teknologi maklumat; sektor awam This research investigates the relationship of leadership and job characteristics in the Information Technology centers of the Malaysian public sector departments. 31 Information Technology managers of the public sector departments participated in the study. Transactional leadership emphasizes recognition and recommendations to their professionals but was low in giving rewards. Transformational leadership showed a high charismatic leadership compared to the other components of transformational leadership. Job characteristics showed high job significant and dealing with others but were low in job autonomy. The study found that there is no significant relationship between leadership style and job characteristics, but there exists a significant relationship between transactional leadership and job identity, feedback from job, and with job characteristics itself; whilst transformational leadership showed a significant relatinship with task variety but not significant with job characteristics. Purpose The purpose of this paper is to answer the following two questions: What are the influences of the top managers’ different leadership styles on organizational innovation? What is the mechanism by which the different leaderships exert different effects on organizational innovation? Design/methodology/approach To test the hypothesized model, a data set based on 133 MBA part-time students from Tsinghua University and Zhejiang University in China was built, after interviewing several top managers as a pilot study. With the help of SPSS macro, hierarchical regression and bootstrapping analysis, the paper analyzes the effects of two leadership styles on innovation performance, through the mediation mechanism of openness involving open breadth and open depth. Findings The results indicate that transformational leadership enhances, while transactional leadership reduces, the organizational innovation performance. The openness breadth and openness depth not only mediate the beneficial effect of transformational leadership on innovation, but also mediate the deleterious effect of transactional leadership on innovation. Originality/value This study empirically explores the different functions of transformational leadership and transactional leadership for leading organizational innovation performance. Furthermore, a new form of organization is an open design or strategy that allows more external knowledge and resources to be absorbed, which is claimed as a new paradigm for organization innovation. This study integrates the concepts of breadth of openness and depth of openness on the basis of open innovation literature, as an intermediate mechanism to explain the different effects of the two forms of top managers’ leadership.

This study aims to examine the effect of transformational leadership on company performance using ERP technology and supply chain integration in food and beverage companies. The survey uses a questionnaire designed using a 5-point Likert scale. As many as 100 questionnaires were distributed to 100 food and beverage companies domiciled in the region of Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. Respondents were from the supervisor and upper level as considered the most knowledgeable person in the company. The number of valid data is 55 respondents representing 55 companies from 100 respondents. Data analysis using Smart PLS. The results of the data analysis show that transformation Leadership does not directly affect firm performance; transformation Leadership does not affect supply chain integration. ERP Application influences firm Performance, supply chain integration influences firm performance, ERP Application affects supply chain integration. An additional finding is that transformational leadership indirectly affects firm performance. This result enriches the insight for the manager in enhancing firm performance. This paper also contributes to the current research in the field of supply chain management.
