The item responses of the Tennessee Self-concept Scale for 743 typical adults were factor analyzed. The Self-criticism, Social Self, Family Self, and Personal Self subscales of the external dimension were clearly unitary in composition. The Moral-ethical subscale was more narrowly defined than expected. The Physical Self subscale emerged as three separate factors. Evidence of an internal dimension was found but that differed from the model of the scale. Except for negative self-esteem factors found for atypical adults, similarity to the original factor structure is indicated across a wide range of samples.

Separate factor analyses of responses to the Tennessee Self-concept Scale using item and scale data are reported for a sample of 255 disabled veterans. A global self-satisfaction factor and several subsidiary factors roughly approximate the external dimension of the scale. The internal dimension interacts with the external one in defining several factors but does not emerge as an independent dimension. Scale data yield a self-esteem factor incorporating both external and internal scales and a self-concept conflict-integration factor. The evidence supports the external dimension more than the internal dimension. The findings are consistent with previous studies that have not validated the two-dimensional design of the scale.

In Indonesia, film as a popular media developed significantly with the presence of films in various genres, one of which is historical film. Post-reform, various historical films emerged that were not previously discovered during the New Order era. As is known, historical films in the New Order era were dominated by Soeharto as an actor, these historical films seemed to voice that there were many other heroes who also had contributions to Indonesia. These films then seem to want to show the self (keakuan) and nationalism possessed by these figures. This research wants to show the contestation of the self (keakuan) and nationalism of three films: Soegija, Habibie-Ainun, and Hadrotusyaikh the Kiai. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a phenomenological approach.

One of the scholarship programs at the University of Jember, which annually provides a lot of quotas, is a scholarship through the Bidikmisi program, which is given to students who come from economically low-income families and a good history of achievement. As it is known that ideally, Bidikmisi students must behave, appear, and act according to the definition of Bidikmisi scholarship itself to prevent misunderstandings in the use of scholarship funds. But still, some Bidikmisi students at Jember University do not display the definition of 'ideal.' From this phenomenon, a question arises about 'Self-Concept of Bidikmisi Students at Jember University.' In this study, researchers used a qualitative descriptive approach, which aims to obtain information about the self-concepts of Bidikmisi students at Jember University. The theory used is symbolic interactionism by George Herbert Mead, where the theory explains that a person is seen as an actor who interprets, evaluates, defines, acts, and tells about the use of symbols as a form of interpretation in one's interactions with others or with groups. The symbols used cold become in the form of verbal or nonverbal. The results showed that there were two kinds of Bidikmisi students' self-concepts, namely positive concepts and negative concepts. Positive self-concept, namely (1) making parents proud, (2) getting high achievements and aspirations, (3) being responsible. On the other hand, negative self-concepts are (1) feeling inferior (2) overly confident. Keywords: self-concept, Bidikmisi students, positive concepts, negative concept Referensi: Burns, R.B. 1993.
