The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of verbal and illustrative representation of the same statistical problems experienced by 56 elementary school students. Students were evaluated on problem-solving skills through six statistical problems as presented in school textbooks. One week later, the students were re-evaluated on problem-solving skills using the same problems that had been illustratively and verbally represented by the researchers. At the same time, we examined the correlation of students' performance to the six given problems in relation to their reading comprehension, verbal and mathematical competence (based on teachers' grade assignment). From the results of the quantitative research method that was used, there was a statistically significant correlation between the verbal representations in a) two out of six problems related to the mean value calculation using α representational table format and b) a bar graph construction based on a representational table format. However, an important finding of the research was the high correlation between students' performance and their reading comprehension, verbal and mathematical competence. Keywords: Verbal representation of a problem, illustrative representation of a problem, statistics.

In this study, the game-based development approach is proposed for improving the learning motivation, problem solving skills, and learning achievement of students. An experiment was conducted on a learning activity of an elementary school science course to evaluate the performance of the proposed approach. A total of 59 sixth graders from two classes of the elementary school participated in the experiment. One class of 30 students was selected as the experimental group, and the other class of 29 students was the control group. From the experimental results, it was found that the proposed game development-based learning approach could effectively promote the students' problem-solving skills. However, the students' learning achievement and motivations were quite different from our expectations. A discussion of the experimental group interview data is provided and suggestions made.

This study aims to develop multimedia products and measure the effectiveness of multimedia in improving the problem solving skills of primary school students. The type of this research is development research that is by developing media product content of science matter of influence of heat 2 to change body shape and temperature. The research subjects consisted of 50 respondents in 5th grade. The development model used was Lee and Owens model which was adapted to the research with steps: 1) analysis, 2) multimedia design, 3) multimedia development, 4) empirical analysis, 5)implementation, 6) final product. Effectiveness test was conducted to measure problem solving skill through pre-test and post-test then processed using t-test. The result of t-test indicate that there is a difference of the mean value of pretest and posttest value with trust level α = 0.05, there is an increase of mean value or in other words, Ho is rejected, mean pre-test value 61.12 and average post-test value 75. Respondents also showed positive attitude using multimedia supported with the result of questionnaire response value 81% with criteria very good. Based on the results of effective multimedia used by learners in learning and improve problem solving skills.

This study aims to improve students' conceptual understanding and problem solving through the application of problem posing learning based on the hot potatoes application based on the problems of the fifth semester students of SDK Maria Fatima Bangkalan. This study uses a quantitative approach. Quantitative research is carried out by describing the data in the form of numbers, namely to determine whether there are any consequences of problem posing learning based on the hot potatoes application on concept understanding and problem solving. The subjects of this study were fifth grade students of Maria Fatima Catholic Elementary School, Bangkalan, Academic Year 2019 - 2020 with flat-building material. The results showed: (1) The effect of problem posing learning based on the hot potatoes application on students' understanding of mathematical concepts was higher with an average value of 85.83 than the control class. (2) The effect of problem posing learning based on hot potatoes application on problem solving has a higher average value than the control class, namely 88.68. (3) The effect of problem posing learning based on hot potatoes application can improve concept understanding and problem solving. Based on the results of data analysis, it can be concluded that problem posing learning based on hot potatoes application can improve the conceptual understanding and problem solving of elementary school students, but still requires adjustment to the situation and conditions at school

This study aims to describe the implementation of concept attainment model in developing math problem solving skills of 5th grade elementary school students. This study used a qualitative approach with a phenomological research design. The subjects in this study were 2 students and 1 teacher of 5th grade of SD Negeri Newung 2 Elementary School (SDN Newung 2), Sukodono, Indonesia. The data technique used tests and interviews with students and teachers. The data validity used source and method triangulation. Data analysis used three stages, namely (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, (3) data conclusions. The results of this study, (1) the students' mathematical solving ability is good, because students have mastered the indicators of mathematical problem solving abilities, (2) Implementation of the concept attainment model in Mathematics learning is correct, because students are enthusiastic about learning, the steps used are appropriate, namely the stage of analyzing thinking strategies, presenting data, and testing concept achievement.

This research is aimed to reveal the effects of the core learning model and mathematical disposition model to problem-solving skills in elementary school. This research is experimental research with a 2x2 factorial design. The research sample is fourth-grade students, i.e., 44 persons. The instrument is the mathematical disposition and problem-solving skill instrument. The research result shows that the core learning model is a suitable mathematical learning model to develop mathematical problem-solving skills. The core learning model is more appropriately applied on a group of students with a high mathematical disposition. Meanwhile, the conventional model is more suitable to be applied on a group of students with a low mathematical disposition

This study aims to design and develop the feasibility of scientific approach-based students’ worksheet to improve four graders’ problem-solving skills on surrounding environment issues. This study was conducted using Research and Development (R&D) method which produces scientific approach-based students’ worksheet. Practicality of this students’ worksheet based on learning practice showed excellent result. This scientific approach-based students’ worksheet can be used to teach and improve students’ problem-solving skills on surrounding environment in the fourth grade of Elementary School. This case is proved by good performance of students in solving problems related to their surrounding environment with a percentage of 81% which shows very high category.
