The paper searches the differences between the groups of Hungarian households regarding the sport expenditures’ presence in household budget and determining factors. I used the latest Household Budget Survey (HBS) of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office from 2008 which contains data of more than 7000 households. My methods were logit and probit models, where the presence of sport expenditures were explained in households’ budget. The increase of the following indicators has a positive effect onto the possibility of the sport expenditures: income status, level of education, number of the children in the household, size of settlement. The region of the household is determining the presence of the sport expenditures too, however sex of the household’s head does not play a significant role.

Moreover, an attempt was made to identify preference-shaping demographic, social and economic determinants of the demand for these services. The analysis drew on source data from individual microdata of Household Budget Survey conducted by the Central Statistical Office in 2005, 2010, and 2015.

Human capital is a fundamental element of intellectual capital. In agriculture this capital is limited to agriculutural holding owners and the closest members of the family including potential successors. The aim of this article is to point to the chracteristics of human capital in regard to intellectual capital in agriculture and an analysis of the chosen features that enable its quantitive and qualitative evaluation. Research material is comprised of data from Central Statistical Office and results of surveys which were gathered from 172 students of agriculture. From the conducted analyses it results that the number of people professionally active in agriculture is diminishing and the level of education amongst agriculturalists is improving. The results of the survey studies show that students who study agriculture do not fully understand benefits of integration processes, which can lead to limitations in intellectual capital development in agriculture.

The age of household members is an important determinant for expenditures. The aim of the present study is to determine expenditure structure and also the hierarchy of consumption determining factors in Polish both young and older households. The research material comes from unpublished Household Budget Survey of Central Statistical Office of Poland for 2012. Canonical correlation analysis was applied as a research method. The most important determinants of expenditures turned out disposable incomes per capita and household size. In spite of transformations taking place in the last years, financial aspect still plays deciding role in consumer spending, particularly in spending on services. The study on consumption determinants at different age groups leads to better understanding of consumer behavior circumstances and thereby ensuring a good quality of life for the people of different age.

The aim of the article is to provide examples of activities undertaken by rural households in the pursuit of reducing electricity use. Households are one of the economic entities of the economic system that significantly use electricity to meet the needs of their members. Expenses incurred for the purchase of energy constitute one of the significant elements in the structure of total expenses. Households, by limiting the consumption of electricity, firstly, reduce expenses, and secondly, undertake pro-environmental activities. The article uses the results of surveys carried out in a group of 404 households located in rural areas of Poland. In addition, the analysis of primary data was expanded to include data from the Household Budget Survey carried out by the Central Statistical Office. The conducted research has shown that the most common activities aimed at reducing energy consumption were turning off the light in unused rooms as well as the use of energy-saving light bulbs and home appliances. Activities were mainly influenced by the level of ecological awareness, level of education and age.

This paper aims at presenting the role of human capital in the development of the rural areas. The research is based on the secondary data collected by the Central Statistical Office. The author has analysed the gross enrollment ratio, differences between voivodships in children attending primary school were observed and in the time perspective the value of this indicator decreased. The author draws attention to the role of demography and education, which are the determinants of the rural development. Education, professional qualifications and experience determine the quality of the human capital. The higher the level of education, the higher the quality of the human capital is. The conducted analysis has shown that the number of people educated in university increased. Moreover, a number of people who are educated in the secondary school or on a lower level is decreasing. In the analysed period (2007-2016) a number of citizens between 3 and 18 years old has decreased, resulting in a fall of the gross enrollment ratio for the elementary schools.

AbstractConstituting the key element of a democratic system, political parties are among entities obliged by the Polish legislator to comply with the principle of disclosure by providing public information. The main objective of this paper is to determine the level of Polish political parties’ disclosure, understood here as their willingness to disclose information on their own structures. It seems that the practice of disclosing such basic organizational data may constitute a specific measure of Polish political parties’ respect for the idea of disclosure. The subject matter of the conducted research was particular parties’ sites in the Public Information Bulletin as well as their official websites. An attempt was made to acquire data concerning party structures by way of direct contact with particular parties’ organizational units – questionnaires were sent to both central and regional/district organizational units. In order to acquire a wider perspective, the research also included data provided by the Central Statistical Office concerning political parties’ organizational structures and election manifestos. The conducted analysis was summarized in the form of a ranking of the examined political parties based on a proposed political party disclosure index. This attempt to measure disclosure on the basis of data on internal structures provided by parties themselves is of a preliminary character which, nevertheless, makes it possible to capture the general properties of the phenomenon under analysis. Among the examined parties, it is PSL, SLD, and PO that, to an acceptable degree, follow the principle of disclosure in the analysed scope (indexes at the level of 60%-80% of the maximum value). Four other parties, i.e. N, Wolność, Razem, and Kukiz’15, are on the edge of the zone making it possible to regard their disclosure as sufficient (indexes at the level of around 50% of the maximum value). In the case of PiS, whose index does not reach 20% of the maximum value, it should be concluded that this party implements the principle of disclosure at a minimum level. The ranking did not show relationships between parties’ willingness towards providing information and their sizes or positions on the political scene (parliamentary parties vs. extra-parliamentary parties).

Podkarpackie Voivodeship is one of the regions of Poland in which the number of agritourism entities is very high. Therefore tourism plays a significant role in its development strategy. The aim of the paper is to identify the current state of agritourism and the changes that have occurred in the region in the years 2000–2016. Specific objectives are to determine the distribution of agritourism farms and their offer, together with a comprehensive analysis of the environmental and socio-economic factors, as well as the impact of the Slovak-Ukrainian border. The report was developed on the statistical materials from the Polish Central Statistical Office, Podkarpackie Agricultural Advisory Centre in Boguchwała and data collected from municipalities and district offices that is published on their websites, as well as through interviews with 100 owners of agritourism farms in the Podkarpackie Voivodeship. The research has shown, on the one hand, the decline in the number of farms in the region and, on the other hand, the increase in the diversity of the tourist offer of these entities. Distribution of agritourism farms is closely linked to the attractiveness of natural environment and quality of secondary tourism resources. Traditional agritourism has not yet fully used its countryside, as well as cross-border advantages of its location.
