ABSTRACT Effects heat stress on physiological responses can be seen on increase body temperature, pulse rate and blood pressure (systole and diastole) and also weight loss. The aim of this study is to analyze the physiological responses of workers exposed to heat in confined space heater PT Nippon Shokubai Indonesia. This was an observational study with cross-sectional design. The sample was all of population (10 workers). Data was collected by measuring heat stress (WBGT), physiological responses before and after working and also questionnaire of individual factors. The result of heat stress measurement show that average of WBGT is above the Threeshold Limit Value (34,9OC) with the workload of the workers was in the heavy category (461,94 ccal) and work time category 0-25%. The result showed that the average body themperature before working was 36,73oC and after working was 38,13oC. The average pulse rate before working was 90,85 beats per minute and after working was 96,1 beats per minutes. The average systolic and diastolic blood pressure before working was 124,85 mmHg and 72,05 mmHg and the average after working was 126,05 mmHg and 72,45 mmHg. On the other hand, the average weight before working was 59,58 kg and after working was 58,3 kg. Hence, there were difference on the result of body temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure and weight before and after working in CS heater.Keyword:   Heat stress, physiological response, confined spaceABSTRAKEfek dari iklim kerja panas pada respon fisiologis tenaga kerja dapat dilihat pada peningkatan suhu tubuh, denyut nadi, tekanan darah (sistolik dan diastolik) dan juga penurunan berat badan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis respon fisiologis tenaga kerja akibat iklim kerja panas di confined space heater PT. Nippon Shokubai Indonesia. Penelitian ini bersifat observasional dengan desain cross-sectional. Besar sampel adalah keseluruhan populasi yaitu 10 orang. Data didapatkan dari pengukuran mengukur iklim kerja panas (ISBB), respon fisiologis sebelum dan sesudah bekerja dan juga kuesioner faktor individu. Hasil pengukuran iklim kerja panas menunjukkan bahwa rerata nilai ISBB sebesar 34,9OC sehingga telah melebihi Nilai Ambang Batas dengan beban kerja berat yaitu 461,94 kkal dan kategori waktu kerja 0-25%. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa rerata suhu tubuh sebelum bekerja adalah 36,73oC dan sesudah bekerja adalah 38,13oC. Rerata denyut nadi sebelum bekerja adalah 90,85 denyut per menit dan sesudah bekerja adalah 96,1 denyut per menit. Kemudian rerata tekanan darah sistolik dan diastolik sebelum bekerja adalah 124,85 mmHg dan 72,05 mmHg, dan rerata sesudah bekerja adalah 126,06 mmHg dan 72,45 mmHg. Selain itu rerata berat badan sebelum bekerja adalah 59,85 kg dan sesudah bekerja adalah 58,3 kg. Oleh karena itu, terdapat perbedaan antara suhu tubuh, denyut nadi, tekanan darah (sistolik dan diastolik) dan berat badan sebelum dan sesudah bekerja di CS heater.Kata kunci : Iklim kerja panas, respon fisiologis, ruang terbatas

Abstract: Movement is a certain habit that never gone from every human being. A Person never stop to move even when he was asleep, because without realizing our heart is settled to pump out blood going to entire body. The quick heart beat can be feel on some situation for example; run, bike or heavy lifting. While run the heartbeat feel faster. Beside heartbeat, breathing and body temperature is also rise where breathing get deeper and faster resembling with body that feel hotter. The aim of this study is to see the influence of running activity toward blood pressure and body temperature. The research methodology used is cross sectional design. The research was conducted between September to November 2015. Subjects are 30 teenager attain the age of 18- 25 years old that selected through inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis performed by Wilcoxon test using SPSS.The result showed that there are 24 people that has rise blood pressure and on the measuring body temperature there are 20 people has decrease of blood temperature after run. Conclusion: Research shows that there are significant contradiction of blood pressure before and after run. On the measure body temperature there are no significant contradiction before and after run.Keywords: run, blood pressure, body temperatureAbstrak: Gerak merupakan suatu kebiasaan yang tidak lepas dari setiap manusia. Manusia tidak pernah berhenti bergerak bahkan disaat seorang tidur, karena tanpa disadari jantung manusia tetap bergerak untuk memompa darah ke seluruh tubuh. Detak jantung yang kencang dapat kita rasakan pada keadaan-keadaan tertentu, contohnya; berlari, bersepeda atau mengangkat beban. Saat berlari, detak jantung terasa lebih kencang dan lebih cepat. Selain detak jantung, pernapasan dan suhu tubuh juga meningkat, dimana pernapasan lebih dalam dan cepat bersamaan dengan tubuh yang terasa panas. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pengaruh berlari terhadap tekanan darah dan suhu. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah design potong lintang (cross sectional) yang dilaksanakan pada bulan September sampai November 2015. Subjek penelitian adalah 30 orang remaja yang berumur 18-25 tahun melalui kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi. Analisis data dilakukan uji statistik Wilcoxon dengan menggunakan SPSS. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 24 orang yang mengalami peningkatan pada pengukuran tekanan darah dan pada pengukuran suhu ditemukan 20 orang yang mengalami penurunan suhu setelah berlari. Simpulan: Terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada pengukuran tekanan darah sebelum dan sesudah berlari. Pada pengukuran suhu, tidak terjadi perbedaan yang signifikan sebelum dan setelah berlari.Kata kunci: berlari, tekanan darah, suhu

Introduction: Working in a hot work environment has a negative impact on occupational health and safety. The impact on health due to work at temperatures above a comfortable temperature can affect body temperature and blood pressure of workers. The aim of this study was to analyze the differences in body temperature and blood pressure of workers before and after exposure to hot work climates at PT. Pertamina (Persero) Tanjung Wangi. Method: This research was an observational study with cross sectional approach. The population of this study was all workers at PT. Pertamina (Persero) Tanjung Wangi., with the total of 11 people. The sample in this study was obtained by total sampling method with a sample of 11 workers. The dependent variables in this study were body temperature, blood pressure, age, fluid intake, and nutritional status, while the independent variable was work climate. Results: Most of the grass lathe workers at PT. Pertamina (Persero) Tanjung Wangi has an age between 17-25 years, some of the grass lathe workers had a fluid intake with less categories with normal nutritional status. The measurement results showed that the average ISBB value was 28.8°C, this value still exceeded TLV. In addition, the results showed that there were differences in body temperature before and after work, from 36.04° C to 36.8° C. In addition there were differences in systolic and diastolic blood pressure before work which was 112.7 mm Hg 77.3 mm Hg, and the average after work was 121 mm Hg and 83.6 mm Hg. Conclusion: There is a difference between body temperature and blood pressure before and after exposure to hot work climates.Keywords: blood pressure, body temperature, hot work climate

Latar belakang: Kebisingan merupakan bunyi yang memiliki intensitas di atas batas normal dan dapat mengganggu kesehatan pada orang yang terpapar. Paparan kebisingan terjadi dalam proses produksi pada industri pabrik kayu, sehingga pekerja menjadi pihak utama yang terdampak. Dampak yang terjadi utamanya pada sistem kardiovaskular. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengaruh kebisingan terhadap tekanan darah dan denyut nadi pada pekerja pabrik kayu PT. Muroco Jember.   Metode: Penelitian ini berjenis analitik observasional dengan desain penelitian cross sectional. Responden penelitian berjumlah 24 orang yang diambil dengan teknik total sampling. Pengukuran kebisingan menggunakan alat sound level meter. Pengumpulan data karakteristik pekerja menggunakan kuesioner. Responden penelitian diukur sebelum dan setelah bekerja, dengan menggunakan sphygmomanometer air raksa untuk tekanan darah dan penghitungan manual denyut nadi pada arteri brachialis. Analisis data menggunakan uji komparasi paired t-test pada level signifikansi 5%.  Hasil: Intensitas kebisingan dari 4 sektor kerja menunjukkan hasil yang beragam. Intensitas kebisingan terendah pada sektor produksi A yaitu 82,9 dB(A), sedangkan tertinggi pada sektor sawmill B yaitu 98,1 dB(A). Sebagian besar responden (66,7%) berusia 29-40 tahun dengan masa kerja responden (62,5%) kurang dari 2 tahun. Sebanyak 91,7% responden tidak memakai APT pada saat bekerja. Berdasarkan uji komparasi paired t-test, didapatkan pengaruh paparan kebisingan akut antara sebelum dan setelah bekerja terhadap tekanan darah sistolik (p= <0,001), diastolik (p=0,049), dan denyut nadi (p=0,020).Simpulan: Terdapat peningkatan yang signifikan terhadap tekanan darah sistolik, diastolik, denyut nadi antara sebelum dan setelah bekerja dalam paparan kebisingan akut pada pekerja pabrik kayu PT. Muroco Jember. Diperlukan penelitian dengan mengendalikan variabel lain yang mengganggu untuk kesempurnaan penelitian selanjutnya. ABSTRACT Title: The Effect of Noise on Blood Pressure and Pulse Rate in Workers at PT. Muroco Jember Wood FactoryBackground: Noise is a sound that has an intensity above the normal limit and may interfere with the health of the exposed person. Exposure to noise often occurs in the production process at the wood processing factory, so that workers become the main person affected. The impact mainly occurs in cardiovascular system. This study aims to analyze the effect of noise on blood pressure and pulse rate in workers at PT. Muroco Jember wood factory.Method: This is an observational analytic research with cross sectional design. The respondents amounted to 24 people taken with total sampling technique. The measurement of noise intensity was using sound level meter. Data collecting of worker characteristics was using questionnaires. Respondents were measured before and after work, using a mercury sphygmomanometer for blood pressure and manual palpation of pulse rate in the brachial artery. Data was analyzed with paired t-test comparative at 5% significance level.Result: The noise intensity of 4 sectors of the factory showed diverse results. The lowest noise intensity is in production sector A, 82.9 dB (A), while the highest is in sawmill B sector, 98.1 dB (A). Most of the respondents (66.7%) were 29-40 years old with respondents working period (62.5%) were less than 2 years. As many as 91.7% of respondents did not use ear protection device while working. Based on paired t-test, there was an effect of acute exposure between before and after working on systolic blood pressure (p < 0,001), diastolic (p = 0.049), and pulse rate (p = 0.020)Conclusion: There was a significant increase in systolic, diastolic blood pressure, and pulse rate between before and after work in an acute noise exposure in worker at PT. Muroco Jember wood factory. Further research is required by controlling other disturbing variables for a better research.

Background: Brem industry workers can be at risk to get into heat strain in their workplace. The cases are caused by heat pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature. Purpose: To analyze the heat pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature that can influence the heat strain simultaneously to the workers of the Brem industry in the Kaliabu region, Madiun city, Indonesia. Method: The research is characteristic analytic observation quantitative with the cross-sectional approach in which a sample is 157 respondents with a total amount are 266 workers. The analysis test path use SPSS AMOS 23 accessories to analyze the data. Result: The results of the research are that heat stress does not influence the pulse rate (estimate 0, 02). Heat stress influences body temperature (estimate 0, 12). Heat stress does not influence the heat strain directly (estimate 0, 011). Pulse rate does not influence the heat strain (estimate 0, 08) and body temperature influences the heat strain (estimate 0, 04). Conclusion: Heat stress does not influence the heat strain directly but it influences the variety of body temperature so it needs to pay attention to the work duration time well. (7 hours working and 1 hour for taking rest). Also, it needed an arrangement of the room and adding the system of ventilation to get down the heat from the environment so heat strain can be restrained by checking the environment temperature and body temperature workers routine.

Physiological responses associated with the ratings of musical stimuli were investigated. For 101 university music and biology students in the experimental group, heart rate, blood pressure, and finger temperature were measured before and after listening to about 10 min. of music (Venus and Jupiter from Holst's The Planets) in an anechoic chamber. They also served as their own controls by sitting in silence for about 10 min. No significant differences were found on the three measures for the two musical stimuli between the musical or control conditions or between the two majors.

Context: Conditions such as osteoarthritis, obesity, and spinal cord injury limit the ability of patients to exercise, preventing them from experiencing many well-documented physiologic stressors. Recent evidence indicates that some of these stressors might derive from exercise-induced body temperature increases. Objective: To determine whether whole-body heat stress without exercise triggers cardiovascular, hormonal, and extra-cellular protein responses of exercise. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Setting: University research laboratory. Patients or Other Participants: Twenty-five young, healthy adults (13 men, 12 women; age = 22.1 ± 2.4 years, height = 175.2 ± 11.6 cm, mass = 69.4 ± 14.8 kg, body mass index = 22.6 ± 4.0) volunteered. Intervention(s): Participants sat in a heat stress chamber with heat (73°C) and without heat (26°C) stress for 30 minutes on separate days. We obtained blood samples from a subset of 13 participants (7 men, 6 women) before and after exposure to heat stress. Main Outcome Measure(s): Extracellular heat shock protein (HSP72) and catecholamine plasma concentration, heart rate, blood pressure, and heat perception. Results: After 30 minutes of heat stress, body temperature measured via rectal sensor increased by 0.8°C. Heart rate increased linearly to 131.4 ± 22.4 beats per minute (F6,24 = 186, P &lt; .001) and systolic and diastolic blood pressure decreased by 16 mm Hg (F6,24 = 10.1, P &lt; .001) and 5 mm Hg (F6,24 = 5.4, P &lt; .001), respectively. Norepinephrine (F1,12 = 12.1, P = .004) and prolactin (F1,12 = 30.2, P &lt; .001) increased in the plasma (58% and 285%, respectively) (P &lt; .05). The HSP72 (F1,12 = 44.7, P &lt; .001) level increased with heat stress by 48.7% ± 53.9%. No cardiovascular or blood variables showed changes during the control trials (quiet sitting in the heat chamber with no heat stress), resulting in differences between heat and control trials. Conclusions: We found that whole-body heat stress triggers some of the physiologic responses observed with exercise. Future studies are necessary to investigate whether carefully prescribed heat stress constitutes a method to augment or supplement exercise.

The liveweight performance and carcase characteristics of Brahman x Hereford, Africander x Hereford and Africander x Shorthorn F, crossbred spayed heifers were compared with those of local Shorthorn spayed heifers on native pasture at Katherine, N.T., between 1962 and 1965. The breed groups were divided for planes of winter nutrition, viz., with and without 2 lb a day of peanut meal from early June until the start of the wet season. Without supplement, the average weight gains of B x H, A x H, A x S, and Shorthorn cattle between June 1962 and May 1965 were 0.49, 0.37, 0.36, and 0.23 lb a day respectively. With supplement, cattle reached slaughter weight a year earlier ; the average weight gains of B x H, A x H, and Shorthorn cattle between June 1962 and May 1964 were 0.61, 0.63, and 0.50 lb a day respectively. (There was no A x S supplemented group). Without supplement, the dressing percentage and estimated proportion of fat of B x H cattle was higher and the estimated proportion of muscle and bone lower than those of other breeds. With supplement, there were no significant differences in dressing percentage or carcase composition between breeds. Measurements made of thermoregulatory attributes indicated that the local Shorthorn cattle, through body temperature control, showed adaptation to heat stress.

The increase in accidents and accompanying increase in severe head injuries, have led to research into various aspects of parameters of prognostic value in patients suffering from head injuries. The possible prognostic value of the observations undertaken by nurses was researched by the author. Some of the findings regarding temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, ventilation, pupillary response and the type of injury are discussed in this article. The importance of accurate observations by nurses is stressed.

Prolonged or intense exposure to heat can lead to a range of health effects. This study investigated heat exposure and heat-related symptoms which sugarcane workers (90 sugarcane cutters and 93 factory workers) experienced during a harvesting season in Thailand. During the hottest month of harvesting season, wet bulb globe temperature was collected in the work environment, and workloads observed, to assess heat stress. Urine samples for dehydration test, blood pressure, heart rate, and body temperature were measured pre- and post-shift to measure heat strain. Fluid intake and heat-related symptoms which subjects had experienced during the harvesting season were gathered via interviews at the end of the season. From the results, sugarcane cutters showed high risk for heat stress and strain, unlike factory workers who had low risk based on the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygiene (ACGIH) threshold limit values (TLVs) for heat stress. Dehydration was observed among sugarcane cutters and significant physiological changes including heart rate, body temperature, and systolic blood pressure occurred across the work shift. Significantly more sugarcane cutters reported experiencing heat-related symptoms including weakness/fatigue, heavy sweating, headache, rash, muscle cramp, dry mouth, dizziness, fever, dry/cracking skin, and swelling, compared to sugarcane factory workers. We conclude that the heat stress experienced by sugarcane cutters working in extremely hot environments, with high workloads, is associated with acute health effects. Preventive and control measures for heat stress are needed to reduce the risk of heat strain.
