<p><em>Jendi village, selected as a pilot project which received the Neighborhood Development program (ND) is the government's effort to solve the poor’s problemsbased onimprovementof housing’s quality. To achieve the goal, the building implementation should be based on the plan that has been made. So, it makes a question “is the implementation of Jendi Village based on Building and Environmental Planning and how the factors affect the suitability itself.”This research uses quantities research methods to analyze the factors that affect the implementation of RTBL Jendi Village. The suitability is found from the analysis which compare the plan and the implementation related with each aspect of planning. To know the factors that affect the implementation of RTBL Jendi Village, the analysis is done using the quantities methods from combination of implementable suitability and the suitable factors of implementation.  The research obtain that the implementable suitability with RTBL of Jendi Village has 81,25% with the suitability from streets, public open space, environment identity concept, the face of the streets, drainage. Factors that affect the implementable suitability with RTBL Jendi Village is communication, human resource, authority, infrastructures and facilities, money, attitude and commitment, bureaucracy structures, and support. And the other factor which not affected with suitability is information resource.</em></p><p><em><strong>Keywords</strong>: Factor that affect the implementable suitability, RTBL, Neighborhood Development</em></p>

With one of the highest population densities in the world, Hong Kong suffers from a lack of public open space. Despite this situation, open spaces provided by government authorities or private developers often do not meet residents’ needs or include residents in the planning and design process. To explore one way that this issue is being addressed, this chapter describes an ongoing placemaking project within Hong Kong’s interstitial network of laneways (里) and alleys (巷). The key historical, sociocultural, and physical features, opportunities, and constraints of these in-between spaces are discussed. This is followed by an in-depth exploration of the case study Magic Lanes, a pilot project that aims to provide more inclusive public open spaces through placemaking and community co-creation.

Considering the importance of the 11th Sustainable Development Goal on sustainable cities and communities and the New Urban Agenda, it is imperative to address one of today’s crucial urban planning challenges, which concerns overexploitation, mismanagement, and quality issues related to public parks and state-owned public open space (POS). Selecting an appropriate methodological framework to formulate a solution to cope with the encountered challenges is necessary; however, finding a suitable one is difficult as there is a lack of research, particularly on the step-by-step development of a conceptual countermeasure (solution). Against this background, we adopted the revised design science research (DSR) framework and its procedural methodology to formulate a conceptual solution, represented as an artifact, within the institutional-social-ecological context of Sabah, Malaysia. The data obtained for the development and validation of the solution were secondary, based on a review via content analysis of prior studies. The proposed conceptual artifact (self-governing collective action) based on the root causes (i.e. property rights and transaction costs issues) from the ‘why’ analysis was then validated via the institutional analysis and development (IAD) framework using its social-ecological system (SES) criteria. The main contribution of this study is to showcase the application and relevancy of the DSR framework for urban and environmental planning research through a problem-solution analysis by demonstrating the process of how the artifact was systematically constructed, validated and standardised. It was found that the proposed conceptual solution can be considered valid and appropriate to address the local governance issues of POS. Abstrak. Mempertimbangkan pentingnya Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan ke-11 tentang Kota dan Komunitas yang Berkelanjutan dan Agenda Perkotaan Baru, penting untuk mengatasi salah satu tantangan perencanaan kota yang krusial saat ini terkait dengan permasalahan eksploitasi yang berlebihan, salah kelola, dan kualitas taman maupun ruang terbuka milik publik/negara (POS). Mencari kerangka metodologi yang tepat untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut dirasakan perlu, tetapi menemukan yang cocok masih sulit karena kurangnya penelitian, terutama tahapan dan langkah mengembangkan konsep tindakan penanggulangan. Dengan latar belakang ini, dalam konteks kelembagaan-sosial-ekologis Sabah, Malaysia, kami mengadopsi kerangka kerja Penelitian Ilmu Desain (DSR) yang telah direvisi dan metodologi proseduralnya untuk merumuskan solusi konseptual yang direpresentasikan sebagai artefak. Data yang diperoleh untuk pengembangan dan validasi solusi adalah data sekunder, berdasarkan tinjauan melalui analisis konten dari studi sebelumnya. Artefak konseptual yang diusulkan (tindakan kolektif yang mengatur diri sendiri) berdasarkan akar penyebab (yaitu, masalah hak milik dan biaya transaksi) dari analisis 'mengapa'yang  kemudian divalidasi melalui kerangka Analisis dan Pengembangan Kelembagaan (IAD) dengan menggunakan kriteria social-ecological system (SES). Kontribusi utama studi ini adalah penerapan dan relevansi kerangka DSR dalam penelitian perencanaan kota dan lingkungan melalui analisis solusi masalah, dengan menunjukkan proses bagaimana artefak dibangun, divalidasi, dan distandarisasi secara sistematis. Akhirnya, artikel ini menunjukkan bahwa solusi konseptual yang diusulkan dianggap valid dan sesuai untuk mengatasi masalah tata kelola lokal POS. Kata kunci. The increasing numbers of people and buildings that continue to grow and tend to be uncontrolled in the settlement causing some negative impacts one of them is the consistency of land allotment. This has resulted in some impacts such as ineffective utilities and environmental infrastructures, no mitigation system, and the unavailability of space for public spaces and other supporting facilities that supposed to be available within a settlement. Kampung Arab is one of a densely populated settlements located in the middle of business center area of Manado City, occupies the Mahakam riverbank. The limited space available in Kampung Arab has caused the settlements tend to be slummed and doesn’t have public open space as one of the residential support facilities. In addition, this settlement expands riverbanks so the functions of riverbanks become disturbed, and these settlements are often at risk of flooding. The purpose of this research is to analyze the function of Mahakam riverbanks against flood risk and to analyze the possibility of public space and pedestrian ways availability at the location of Mahakam riverbanks around the Kampung Arab settlement. The research method is qualitative descriptive method. Primary data were obtained through field observation, documentation, and interviews. The research is located in Kampung Arab settlement which occupies the banks of Mahakam River. Further analysis is done: 1) analysis of existing settlement of Kampung Arab to the Mahakam River related to: building’s orientation, river border, activity and behavior of society 2] analysis of public open space availability and its former elements, 3] analysis of settlement utility system and at the final stage conducted an analysis related to community activities and behavior. Expected results through this research are: improving function and quality of Mahakam River, restoring the function of riverbanks and public open space availability as social interaction space.

Public open spaces services have been shown to be profoundly affected by rapid urbanization and environmental changes, and in turn, they have influenced socio-cultural relationships and human well-being. However, the impact of these changes on public open space services (POSS) remains unexplored, particularly in the Saudi Arabian context. This study examines the socio-cultural influence of POSS on the King Abdulaziz University campus, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and the impact of these services on well-being. A field survey and questionnaire were used to collect data. Non-parametric tests (Kruskal–Wallis and Mann–Whitney tests) were used to find significant differences in the importance of POSS as perceived by stakeholders based on socio-demographic attributes. Factor analysis was performed for 14 POSS to identify those that are most important. The study showed that (i) university stakeholders are closely linked to services provided by public open spaces (POS) and dependent on POSS, (ii) there were significant differences in the perceived importance of POSS according to gender, age, and social groups, and (iii) 70 to 90% of stakeholders reported POSS as having a positive impact on well-being. Thus, the findings will help design and plan POSS to meet the needs of society and promote well-being.

Major Indian cities have a lower public open space (POS)-capita ratio and do not meet national and international standards. Moreover, factors such as lack of design guidelines for POSs, limited funding, and lack of public participation have affected these limitedly available POSs and made them ineffective and incapable of meeting the contemporary needs of a diverse range of users. Therefore, it is essential to make them not only inclusive, user-friendly, attractive, and efficient, but also socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable in order to serve the various facilities and services at their optimum level. This study includes the assessment of two POSs to identify strengths and deficiencies that affect their character and use. These POSs are public parks, provide free access to users and are located in the city of Nagpur. For assessment, the study proposed the Public Open Space Index (POSI) that combines five aspects: Individual well-being, Inclusiveness, Engagement, Sustainable spaces, and Management.A mixed methods approach was considered for data collection, including a self-administered questionnaire survey and observations.According to the results, POSs have strengths in that they facilitate social cohesion, engagement, and basic facilities. POSs do not encourage equitable access and sustainable practices, which are considered deficiencies.The study helps planners, designers, and parenting authority to develop initiatives to make these limited POSs inclusive, functional, and sustainable.

Next phase of experiment TEST is aimed to evaluate microbial viability after a prolonged external exposure on the International space station (ISS). Methanogenic archaea isolated from various habitats have been tested in ground facilities for the ability to survive exposure to such open space factors as UV and vacuum. Methanosarcina mazei S-6T (VKM B-1636T) was found to be the most viable and, therefore, suitable for the experiment. Our investigations showed that the Methanosarcina mazei population maintained viability in the course of 24-month exposure. On this evidence we conclude that genome of this metanogenic archaea possesses mechanisms against the space vacuum, UV and thermal differences that, probably, underlie the ability of the strain to form peculiar cyst-like dormant cells.
