English Version Abstract

Rice is an important agricultural commodity serves as staple food for most of Indonesian people. During storage, rice can be damaged due to environmental factors as well as postharvest pest. Sitophilus oryzae is insect pest that attacks rice during storage causing quantity and quality losses. The objective of this research was to study the effects of type of packaging on the S.oryzae mortality and determine the appropriate packaging for rice during the storage. Three varieties of Central Kalimantan local rice (Siam Jurut, Siam Unus and Karang Dukuh) that infested by S.oryzae were packaged using three types of packaging, i.e “hermetic” laminat, polypropilen (PP) and low density polyetylen (LDPE) plastics. The result of showed that the type of packaging significantly effected the S.oryzae mortality. Total mortality of S.oryzae reached after three days, seven days, and 20 days in hermetic, PP, LDPE respectively.

Keywords :rice, plastics packaging, Sitphilus oryzae, storage

The need to provide agricultural information to farmers has led to emergence of numerous electronic-based MIS projects in developing countries. These projects aim at promoting farmer linkage to better markets. However, experiences from past and present projects show mix cases of success and failure, despite some projects meeting their goals. This study examines how the environments in which such ICT-based MIS are deployed affect their performance. It specifically uses two ICT-based market information service projects, the DrumNet and Kenya Agricultural Commodity Exchange (KACE) projects, to assess how the socio-economic, physical, and institutional environments in such projects are deployed affect the performance of such projects. The study finds that a number of environmental factors related to socio-economic, physical, market, and legal environment affect the performance of ICT-based projects. Some of these factors exacerbate transactions costs thus undermining the performance and even sustainability of ICT-based MIS projects. It discusses policy implications of these findings.

Winter-maturing Lisbon lemons (Citrus limon (L.) Burm.f.) and Ellendale tangors (Citrus reticulata x Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) which had been dipped in fungicides and waxed, developed less than 10% rot but remained fresh for only 2-3 months in cool-storage at 10C and 80-90% RH. High-density polyethylene (HDPE) wraps delayed loss of firmness and peel coloration of tangors and lemons for 5 and 8 months respectively, in cool-storage, but both citrus developed unacceptable levels of rotting within 4 months of harvest. Perforated low-density polyethylene liners were less effective than HDPE wraps for preserving fruit condition but they extended the storage life of lemons until early January (6 months) without incurring levels of decay greater than 10%. However, tangors cool-stored in liners became unsaleable after only 3-4 months owing to loss of acidity and flavour.

The temperature and humidity are two main environmental factors, which have influence on the life of solid propellant. Comparing with single factor aging life model, hygrothermal aging life model is more feasible, which takes temperature and humidity into consideration. In this paper two hygrothermal aging life models were established. The data of hygrothermal aging test of solid propellant was used for multiregression. According to significance analysis and comparison of two models, it was shown that two models both fit the test data well. Storage life of the solid propellant under normal condition was obtained by using the life models. The results of the research can provide reference for storage life prediction of solid propellant.

Wheat [Triticum aestivum (Linnaeus) Em. Thell] belongs to family Gramineae, believed to have originated from South West Asia. It is most important cereal cultivated crop in temperate area of the world. Wheat is second important staple food crop after rice. In field condition the termite (Odontotermes obesus Rambur) is predominant insect-pest causing 20-40% damage to the crop particularly in rainfed condition. For the management of termite in wheat, Krishi Vigyan Kendra demonstrate the technology - Seed treatment by Fipronil 5% SC @ 6 ml./ kg seed before sowing and soil treatment by Fipronil 5 % SC @ 1.6 lit./ha. During 2016-17 and 2017-18 at farmers field in adopted village of KVK conduct the demonstration. Under the technology, reduce the termite infestation 53.46 per cent resulted18.92 per cent enhance the productivity of wheat crop. Under IPM technology, the average productivity of chickpea is 3865 Kg/ha whereas in farmers practice, the average productivity of chickpea is 3250 Kg/ ha.

Rice is one of serealea comodity that susceptible with pest storage. One of the pest that often attack the rice in storage is Sitophilus oryzae L. The alternative for control S. oryzae L. as fumigant which enviromentally sound is Gliricidia sepium Jacq. as organic insecticide. This research aims to get the best dose G. sepium Jacq. leaf powder to control S. oryzae L. pest in rice storage. This research conducted at Laboratory of Plant Pest, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau, Pekan baru from Mei until Juni 2016. This research arranged experimentally by using Completely Randomized Design consisting of 5 treatments and 4 replications. The treatment consist of 5 dose levels were 0 g/100 g rice, 2 g/100 g rice, 4 g/100 g rice, 6 g/100 g rice and 8 g/100 g rice. The result showed that giving of G. sepium Jacq. leaf powder with dose 8 g/100 g rice causes time of death beginningS. oryzae L. during 31.50 hours after application, lethal time 50 during 282.8 hours after application, total mortality was 70%, amount of generation was 9,75 beetles and decrease of seed weight’s rice was 1.08%.
